I can't wait for Q4, which will be landing in just a year and around 8 months if it does in fact land in October 2026. Slimmer Than Q3, smaller, hopefully lighter(To the point where they can ditch that aesthetic killing tacky top middle strap which is currently needed to prevent the Q3 from slightly wobbling when it's on your head), 2x the power of Q3, Eye Tracking & FR, Dual LCD display with Full Array Local Dimming for deep inky blacks & richer vibrant colours(Micro-OLED will still be too expensive unfortunately), higher Res & FOV, Pancake+ Lenses for an even wider sweet spot so there's zero need to fiddle with the visor etc. Meta still needs to kill those friction points > Head set weight, The top middle strap, and as great as pancake lenses are as far as offering a wide sweet spot, they need to advanced the lenses further so you can just pop on the Q4 and it looks clear without adjustaments aside from the IPD dial. Topped with a slimmer smaller design, it's just going to to make it more alluring and aesthetically pleasing for people that are still on the fence with VR/MR.

It's funny, when I got my Q3 during Christmas of 2023, in most ways, it felt like it was 1-2 generations ahead of PSVR2. But now? As wonderful as it is, it's still very weighty' and still a headset, with an aesthetic killing goofy top middle velcro strap(Which is still obviously needed for weight distribution, weather you have the Stock strap or Elite.) those 3 things are going to be friction points for many. I love my Q3, but I would absolutely love a Q3 Pro with a noticeably lighter, slimmer and smaller front visor, basically with a goggle-like design, and with no top middle strap, topped with a Micro-OLED display + Pancakes & eye tracking for more power. I'll gladly pay over a grand CAD for that, if it ever came to fruition. And there have been rumours circulating around that the Q4 will indeed be goggles and no longer a headset too. I think by Q5, VR/MR will finally explode into popularity, along with PSVR3 and Nintendo jumping in with Switch 3 in the early 2030's. Those pesky friction points(Weight, headsets being headsets, top middle strap etc) will finally be a thing of the past.

I have some AR glasses which are really just glasses with TV screens in them and I LOVE them. I don't use them every day but they are fantastic for watching shows in bed and for playing my Steam deck on airplanes etc. I just wish the displays in them were a little bit larger. If Meta can release a great product with larger displays that can easily hook up to anything with a USBC video out port then I will definitely buy them.

I just played the demo for Into Black a few days ago. It's so awesome! I can't wait for it to go on a sale next, so I can pick it up. Very neat game. I also just picked up Split-Second. It's a little buggy, but very fun game. It's like Ready Or Not in VR. Loving my new Quest 3. What a massive jump from the Quest 2. The Pancake lenses and 4K resolution are insane! Can't wait to test out my old PCVR games from yesteryear haha.

Great to hear this directly from you for the first time! ;-) It's crucial for every Quest fanboy to understand: Meta has never been primarily focused on VR gaming. Their true priority lies in shaping the future of social data. Games are merely a means to an end-a strategy to attract users to VR, as they currently lack more compelling content. If Meta identifies a better way to achieve their goals-whether through social VR, AR lifestyles, or VR-based work environments-they will inevitably shift their focus in that direction. Mobile VR gaming only exists because of Meta and their billions. Without their investment, it likely wouldn’t have existed at all-and it would quickly fade away without their continued support.

Into Black rules, it's one of the funnest VR experiences I've ever had. Highly recommended! Also, while I agree with your general point about PCVR, I don't think Into the Radius 2's sales figures are a good representation of where it's at. While the developers are absolutely killing it with updates, it's still in early access and has a lot of huge bugs. It's much better now than it was at launch, but it's still in pretty rough shape, and I think a lot of people are waiting until the full release especially at $40. I'd be curious to see ITR1 sales across all platforms.

To be fair, Resident Evil WOULD sell more if it were not PSVR exclusive. Look at RE4 VR. At the time it was a giant success for Meta. I think the fastest selling VR game ever. The fact that I don't own a PS5 and a PSVR2 is the only reason I have not played 7 or 8. Meta pushes these simpler titles because devs are greedy and just want to shovel out a quick profit on a bare bones team. And getting simpler titles is a lot easier to do on the Meta platform so it's just completely inundated with trash.

It's not even that. Hybrid games (flat games that also have a VR mode) literally aren't counted as VR games in Sony's sales charts. So the Resident Evil games, Gran Turismo 7, Phasmophobia, and No Man's Sky don't show up in PSVR 2 game charts because they have no way of separating VR users from people playing flat. Even despite that, 9 out of the 20 spots were taken up by arguably fairly hardcore games (Metro, Arizona Sunshine 2, Pavlov, Swordsman, and Legendary Tales). And two of the biggest hardcore games of the year came out part way through December (Alien and Behemoth) and both did well on that month's VR sales charts, but it'd be pretty tough for them to make the top 10 games for the whole year with less than a month of sales. Impressive that Metro made the list with under two months on the market. I get the point Matteo was trying to make, but honestly the PSVR 2 sales charts don't back it up nearly as well as the Meta store charts would.

To me, VR gaming is the future. Id wish AA titles would at least include an option. Like cyberpunk. I dont want to use MODS. Or make both, flatscreen (to make money) and a VR version. Win win.

The problem is, most game companies don't think that second win is actually a win for them. They believe a VR version wouldn't increase overall sales enough to justify its cost of development and the opportunity-cost of having their staff work on it instead of more games/content to sell to the much larger flat audience. Sadly they're probably right. However, I think independent VR porting companies like Flat2VR could make VR conversions profitable. They just have to convince large companies it's worth it.

If Project Moohan is mainly focused on MR, I'd be fine with it if the MR quailty is higher than what we've seen and has a robust future for things like Demeo's MR experience, Spatial Ops. Things of that nature but software wise these type of games need to be more elevated and not experiences we've already seen, otherwise Quest 3 it is.

It is 100% too much to ask for. Meta is selling the Quest 3 at cost or at a loss. Meta makes their money on their subscriptions and their marketplace. If you’re buying your games from Steam for PCVR the manufacturers (say pimax or htc) doesn’t get a dime. That is why their headsets are more money.

I wish Sony would just do a PSVR2 head revision. It has so much potential, but it's held back from a handful of head scratching feature/design decisions...Like the fresnel lenses(TIny sweet spot, soft clarity), cable, bulky visor, Onion ring controllers, the fact that there's no colour passthrough or mixed reality mode is baffling. They didn't even add numbers to the IPD Dial(You're going in blind) and there's no built in audio for people that don't want to use ear buds, plus it feels like you're wearing a medieval torture device due to the lack of any interface padding. I think Pancake Lenses + Dual LCD 'full array local dimming' SDR displays would be a big win, with wireless connectivity to PS5/PS5 Pro, the Pancake lenses would trim a ton of bulk of the visor getting just as slim or possibly slimmer than Q3, they could also go ring-less with the controllers, with an improved silicone padded interface etc etc. As is, the PSVR2 is a friction point heavy cumbersome and bulky headset that will have most people running for the hills. :P Then top it off with a brand new VR trailer reel with Resident Evil Zero VR, Astro Bot: Rescue Mission+, an optimized port of Ocean Descent, maybe VR-ify the upcoming House of the Dead 2 Remake etc etc. Again, so much wasted potential. Plus, with the power of the PS5/PS5 Pro, we'd also get some pretty unreal mixed reality games too! As is, VR is in a frustrating weird spot. I know Sony will finally get it right with PSVR3 by 2029/2030, if they decide to take the VR plunge once again.

For me it sounds like PSVR2 is good enough, it just need more games (which unfortunately I don't see that happening). But a true competitor for Quest should be Standalone, that's why a SteamDeck headset from Valve would offer true competition. Switch is a Standalone device and would be close enough. I don't think Fresnel would save PSVR2, jus like the PSVita LCD didn't saved PSVITA I agree with you that House of Dead should be in VR, it would be awesome.

I see vr gaming and flat screen are not on the same lvl. What about mods. What if we put more resources into moding. Make it more simple to install, more user friendly. I see VR trying to stand on its on but like you say it's not there yet. What if we make it so that moding, is easier and more user friendly. That way you can sell the flat screen game. And to play it in VR add about 10 bucks more for the mod pack. I mean quality and stuff would come into play. But it's kinda like piggy backing.

A few notes regarding the PSVR 2 sales segment: 1) Hybrid games like RE Village or 4 Remake, GT7, Phasmophobia, or No Man's Sky don't show up on the PSVR 2 sales charts because they're considered flat games. In fact both Gran Turismo 7 and Phasmophobia made it onto the European top 25 downloads list for flat games (but we have no way of knowing how many of those sales were to VR users because that info isn't shared). 2) That's a sales chart for the whole year, so titles like Alien: Rogue Incursion and Behemoth would have to be absolute smash hits to rank in the top 10 considering they were out for less than a month in 2024. Very impressive that Metro made the list since it only came out in November. Disappointing that Legendary Tales didn't rank higher (or at all in Europe), but I think a big part of that is the high price tag. 3) I'm not sure I'd call Pavlov, Arizona Sunshine 2, Swordsman VR, Metro, or Legendary Tales casual or "babyish" games, and that's almost half the titles (9/20 games between the two charts). I realize you're trying to make a point about the VR market, but I'm not sure these stats really back up your point. There's a decent chance GT7, Phasmophobia, and even RE4 Remake could have been on these lists, even when only counting the VR players, and that would have increased the representation of "core" games in the sales charts even further. I'm also curious what the top 10 best selling Quest games chart would look like for 2024. If you disregard pack-in games (another thing the PSVR 2 charts do), or at least adjust their numbers to the people who actually played them more than half an hour, it might reinforce the point you were trying to make a little better. The Meta website won't load their list for the best selling titles of 2024 for me, but the current top 10 "most popular" games are 1) Gorilla Tag, 2) Meta Horizon Worlds (sus), 3) VR Chat, 4) Roblox, 5) Animal Company, 6) Beat Saber, 7) Rec Room, 8) Blade & Sorcery Nomad, 9) Scary Baboon, and 10) VRFS - Football (Soccer) Simulator... and 11) Batman: Arkham Shadows I'm glad you're optimistic about PSVR 2 having a better year in 2024. I'm not sure it'll be better (at least in terms of the quantity of big titles), but it seems like it's getting off to a good start at least.

A few more PSVR 2 sales charts things of note: - Both Alien and Behemoth ranked highly in the December downloads charts for PSVR 2 (#2 and #3 in NA, and #1 and #4 in Europe, respectively). - Metro was #1 in both regions in November, and was #5 and #6 in NA and Europe in December. - Phasmophobia was #12 and #6 among flat games in October (not bad since it launched October 29), #2 and #4 in November, and #7 in both regions in December. Again, there's no telling how many of those people were playing in VR, but considering the disparity of audience sizes between the flat audience and VR, if even 10% of those players bought it for VR, it probably would have made the VR charts. - And Gran Turismo 7 also made the flat charts in December (#15 in NA, #8 in Europe). That's probably because it was on sale for its biggest discount so far, but so was the PSVR 2 at the same time. COINCIDENCE?!?!! ...yeah probably 😉

I can not at anytime see it going anywhere. A whole generation is starting to grow up with this. Even if Sony totally abandons it. In time it would come back. Again the same exact thing happened to the PC market 10 years ago. As long as there are up and coming hungry developers out there then we will continue. Even if meta gives it up. It will totally continue in one form or another. What valve is doing makes total sense, to have an all in one device is the way to go. It opens Even more doors. Flat, VR and 3D games all in one place. You should only be spreading the good news because in the long run that's exactly what will happen. I don't really care who you are talking to. There are always hungry talented people out there if not our country then another.
