Stanhope Forbes began early to find his role was to be a painter of nature to work as much as possible in the open air. Forbes began his training in England and afterward in Paris. Forbes returned to the little town in Cornwall called Newlyn, but before he ventured there to live and paint he went to Brittany in France to hone his skills. With the influence of Bastien Lepage with whom he gained the most insight and direction, he would remain true. Elizabeth Armstrong would also venture to Newlyn and the two would meet and later marry, they opened up a teaching school and became a real presence for good to the whole community. Their insights are included here.
