Here i test the new lead free Gamo raptor power pellets. they are an 18carat gold plated pellet in .177
they claim massive penetration and 25% increase in accuracy.
should the lead ammo ban happen these may be the best we have
the rifle i test through is my anschutz 9015 and the scope is an optisan cp hft scope

I think some of the non-plated variety of lead free pellets have a place, their performance is on par with regular lead. However from an economical standpoint, they’re useless unless the price goes way down on the lead free ones

Hi Richard, get it shared around mate, ive plans for a series on just how dangerous the lead free alternatives are currently. The manufacturers are between a rock and a hard place right now too so I don't hold them to blame for the pellets. We as a community need to be more vocal about it 😉

Hiya, I'm trying to devise a test to monitor how they ricochet and how Inhumane they are in pest control situations too. I've a bunch more lead free pellets,not just gamo. It's not a pop at gamo, they have to be looking at the alternatives for future business. But the whole idea is flawed from the start with lead free.

Thanks for the video. I think the airgun community needs to be more vocal about the issues of lead-free pellets. Until a safe to use viable alternative is found we would be mad to silently accept a ban on lead pellets. I certainly don't wis to see them ricochet back at my kid.

i compared h&n bara ft to polymag shorts on tin and the i thought the polymags would make bigger damage but the h&n made the bigger impact. yet using them ratting the polymags make little damage externally but the kill is instant. if you want any samples i have most slugs and a big selection of pellets and can head size batches of pellets to get true comparisons

I'm not sure, but possibly if the ply was glued together to make it solid, or alternatively use the standard thicknesses of 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 (or metric equivalents), then penetration may be a little more. The tape is allowing movement of the ply. Because you can clearly see the blown/burst fibres on the backs of the first and second sheets, the sheets are separating and energy is lost/ absorbed. Think "chopping firewood on a bed!"

Solid gold might actually be a good alternative with great weight and softness shame alchemy is so hard. When you get the ballistic gel definitely put some polymag shorts into it S200 shoots them very well to 40m certainly work on pests. Also H&N hunter extremes not used them in anger yet but worked well on paper.

Maybe some of the gas ram rifles do make more power,often springers will with a lighter pellet but im not sure wether these would be too light. They definitely run through faster though. Tbh gamo and all the manufacturers are between a rock and a hard place, atleast they are trying to find something lead free I guess.

Gamo really needs to up the quality control if they want this pellet to be a success. The varying diameters makes it impossible to get consistent friction in the barrel, thus changing the velocity and impact point. The hardness of the pellet is also a concern: wear on the barrel and ricochet potential. The wear on the barrel can be reduced by using a softer material on the exterior while retaining a harder interior (like a non discarding sabot). Ricochet will remain an issue on flat plates that are face on to the shooter, though angling the plate down so the pellet goes into the ground would alleviate that. Non lead pellets have a way to go before they achieve the properties that lead pellets have. Lead is harmful to the environment and there will be a time where it's use in banned for outdoor use IF there are no improvements to their current design. Would it be possible to make lead pellets with polymer coatings that are tough enough to mimic lead in rifling without tearing through as it travels down the barrel?

General reports on these Gamo Gimmix a few years back, were they were pretty crap, designed for folks who buy with their eyes, just out of interest are there any pellet brands out there made from tin?
@tillysgunstocks
@tillysgunstocks Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure on the makeup of these pellets, I dont know enough about metals to be able to offer any advice in that respect. They are a bit of a gimmick granted,but the pellet manufacturers are all between a rock and a hard place realy so I don't hold it against them. Hopefully in time they will get better and less flipping lethal coming back at us. As a community we all need to make the powers that be, more aware of the realities of these silly ideas.
@ronaldspice8890
@ronaldspice8890 Жыл бұрын
@@tillysgunstocks The thing that would worry me, would be barrel ware, with long term use of harder but lighter metals. Why I mentioned Tin is very similar to lead but a tadge lighter and non toxic. Maybe the .20 calibre might work better with less non toxic pellets as you could increase the weight of the pellet to suit .20 barrels.

PBA "alloy" pellets, will DESTROY your air gun. ESPECIALLY HIGH-END SPRINGERS. They do NOT retain the amount of back-pressure needed. These were created to artificially inflate BS FPS velocities, and to break your gun so you would have to buy another.

Ok guys. I tested this a long time ago, back when these hit the market. My personal and professional recommendation is...do NOT use these in your best-$$$ barrels, especially in choked barrels like the Lothar Walther choked series used on Air force made guns and some of the better Russian & CZ choked barrels. Reason, you may ask? They electroplated. Ok. So what, you may ask? Well, that means they're obviously of an amalgamation of some polymer/plastic combined with ferrous/iron particulation content. Something that carries the current for the process. Now, I don't assume to know the particulars of the process...but, I'm didn't exactly fall off the bus yesterday and what I did find years ago was that A NAGNET WILL PICK THEM UP! So, there's iron in there somewhere guys, likely throughout ... this allowing a somewhat uniform electroplating process over the surface. All I can tell you for certain is, a magnet eillmpick 'em up and I got one find no peace of mind in the thought of possibly eroding my barrels out or rounding off the lands, or potentially eliminating much of the choke near the muzzle on choked units. They sound cool breaking the sound barrier as easily as they do so, if ya just gotta shoot 'em from time to time I'd stick to doing so from a cheap chinese magnum springer or the like. Try the JSB Predator GTO's instead. Pretty hard pellet still, but they're not magnetic so obviously there's a different prices of manufacturer used there. You can see the difference in the surface uniformity. The GTO's, for lack of a better way to put it, appear almost CNC machines they're so uniform in appearance. That's likely what they're WAY WAY more accurate. I just wish the Predator GTO wasn't so costly to shoot! Good video man. Nicely presented. Thank you.
