The "Iron Maiden" he's referring to is a drogue attachment for the KC-135 boom. It's literally a basket drogue and short rubber hose we jam onto the end of the boom. Not every KC-135 has the wingtip MPRS pods that reel out the softer drogue basket, so the drogue we can remove/install onto the boom is kind of a janky workaround to refuel navy jets. As much as we can respect Drewski for being the more popular gamer to draw attention to DCS, and he has certainly put in the effort to understand some of the platforms in DCS...the entirety of the critique comes from the fact that Drewski isn't using the best tactics. And I'm not even saying Drewski doesn't know better -- he probably knows he doesn't know -- like "I could probably do 1, 2, 3, then use ___ system to launch from a safe altitude inside a window...but this is more fun so GO GO GO!" That's why gamers like Drewski. Watching a "real" DCS pilot on an advanced aircraft is going to be dull because they'd look quite untouchable as they take out targets and don't engage in games of chicken with AA or SAMs. We all do this on this harder campaign missions, and multiplayer dogfights, but for videos we just go ham.

DCS is actually very interesting as a wargaming tool. This pilot, while getting to fly the real thing, has never flown in a situation where the US didn't have dominant air superiority. And that shows in the first minute. In a situation where CAP needs to be airborne ASAP, you will be on the runway with ---whatever else--- is out there at the moment. A lot of the FAA rules go out the window when it's the real deal. He's used to peacetime. The comments about floor are also cap, and I think he knows that. I've seen our own a/c do low altitude maneuvers -- well under 1k, let alone 5k -- routinely. Would've been better to get his reaction to some of the serious DCS players, including their audio. Rather than what looks like game footage taken for press reasons with wrong loadouts, etc. Dogfights with gen 4 and gen 5 aircraft have been so scarce, that the data is basically meaningless. Comes down more to pilot skill (Iraqis and Serbians flying a few MiG29s is probably not the best demo of that a/c...) The downside is that DCS probably doesn't have exactly accurate information on capabilities for any of these recent aircraft.

The unrealistic employment is one of the fun things about DCS. If you want to you can have a realistic set up with say an SA 10 surrounded with shorter ranged SAM systems and MANPADS and then you strike it professionally. I've flown multiplayer strike missions set up with multiple groups of aircraft with distinct roles all working to specific times on target, which can be great fun. But at the end of the day it is just a video game that lets you fly fighter jets and doing things the wrong way can be a lot of fun- at worst you've wasted half an hour or so of time if you mess up and die. It's a lot more rewarding to accomplish things in than Ace Combat though because everything's a lot more involved and the immersion is immense, even if the systems aren't modelled absolutely true to life.

why is the F-35 in your top 10? it's full of problems lol I mean when you fire the gun there's a chance of cracking the main fuselage.. that's just one of a list of ongoing issues. I mean it's a decent step up to replace the aging models we've been using, but long-term we need a new JSF that is far more reliable. www.extremetech.com/extreme/320295-the-us-air-force-quietly-admits-the-f-35-is-a-failure

11:11 There is quite a bit of gun cam footage from WW2 showing Allied pilots getting pretty damn low on their gun runs, especially against German train locomotives. But I understand now-a-days they stress aircraft safety a lot more than they did in the 40's.

@@HoovyLuca So... Pay-to-win. Pay-to-progress is pay-to-win, a bunch of the best vehicles are locked behind pay walls or take forever to get without paying for them. Getting good vehicles is an absolute grind, so people just pay all the way to the top, which is pay-to-win. It won't give you better skills obviously, but it gives you the better vehicles. I've seen many people complain about how planes like the KA-50 are overpowered and premium only.

A lot of the displays in DCS are correct. For no apparent reason they chose to use a mod instead of an official plane in the first handful of clips. The mod is based on the FC3 aircraft which are super simplified compared to other DCS planes. The displays are taken from what looks to be the F-15C. Probably should have gone with clips from Growling Sidewinder or one of the players out there making content using more realistic tactics, too.

@@raddox7 The Last episode with the pilot the editor overdid it with GIFS and memes. It was just cringe and way too much.
