@@AvaKim123 may i ask what you did between your bachelors and med school, or what you recommend?

Sorry, I only just saw your comment! I spent my gap years working in retail and saving up to go travelling during my second gap year. I also took this time to destress and gain more perspective as sometimes you can get lost in the rat race that is med school entry :) I also sat the GAMSAT twice during this break! If I were to go back in time, I wouldn't change anything but my advice would be to pursue honours or do research during your time off if you are able to. It's a good experience to have going into medical school (however there are plenty of opportunities in medical school to do research as well).

@@AvaKim123 i appreciate the response, but do you think instead of honours i could do a masters degree? it will provide me with a very good job opportunity if i don't make medical school, whereas an honours degree won't help me much. also, will medical school still accept my masters degree gpa, or will they only look at my bachelor degree? Thanks in advance!

Hi, I'm planning on sitting the GAMSAT September 2024 and I felt extremely lost with the sheer amount of resources online. I've been advised by many to purchase the GOLD STANDARD textbooks. I'm feeling quite hesitant as all three sections worth of books are quite expensive while the older books with the practice question compilations are relatively cheaper. Do you think it'll be a good idea to purchase the new edition books or should I resolute to doing current practice questions and the older practice questions? Great advice btw, thank you for making this video!!🙏🙏
@AvaKim123 Жыл бұрын
Hi there, unfortunately I’ve never used the Gold Standard textbooks so I’m not the best person to ask this. Given that the GAMSAT exams have changed over time it might be good to purchase the current edition but honestly, I wouldn’t think there’s a significant difference between the old and new editions.

Hi Mohamed, I've realised that a number of people have struggled to find these books. Some of them are on Scribd and others are available on ebay or gumtree (if you're in Australia). Unfortunately, there aren't many physical copies left but there should be plenty of pdfs available.

What’s your score breakdown over the four sittings? I ask because an unweighted score and a weighted score can vastly differ and have significant consequences on the application process. Thanks
@AvaKim1232 жыл бұрын
Hi James, Unfortunately, as my results are from a while ago, I can no longer access my results on ACER to give you an accurate breakdown of my scores but I can tell you what my unweighted scores were. 1st sitting: 72 --> 70 2nd sitting: 68 --> 69 3rd sitting: 73 --> 72 Final sitting: 77 --> 75

Hi Ava, Hope your doing amazing in your med school performance. I have a quick qs regarding Gpa that is competitive enough for melbourne uni med. Also for some perspective if you wouldn't mind sharing your final Gpa. Thank you
@AvaKim123 Жыл бұрын
Hello! Thank you 😊 As for competitive GPAs, it differs based on CSP, BMP and international spots. It also depends on your GAMSAT score. When considering GPA/7 + GAMSAT/100 you would be aiming for 1.67-1.68 to be safe for a CSP spot but there’s no guarantee. I linked a spreadsheet in my Q&A video that includes past scores of successful applicants so have a look at that. Good luck!

Hi Ava Thank you for your advice. I have my exam this March sitting I was just wondering is there any correl between the percentage score and the score you will get for the real exam? For example if I get 42/62 on S1 that's 68% would this correspond to a 68 score in the real exam?
@hummermessi5982 Жыл бұрын
Correlation*
@AvaKim123 Жыл бұрын
Hi there, Your GAMSAT section scores do not correlate with the actual percentage marks, but instead correlate with how you perform in comparison to the other candidates. Your ‘raw’ score is scaled, taking into consideration the difficulty of your sitting and your relative performance. Hope this helps and good luck with your exam!

@studywithsanny22 Hello Sanny, When you apply for medical school, you preference where you'd like to complete your clinical placements, but it's ultimately determined via a random allocation process. I was allocated to a rural clinical school so I spent all three years in rural towns, but the vast majority of students complete their clinical years in Melbourne for the duration of their degree. Hope this helps!

@AvaKim1232 жыл бұрын
Hey there! I didn't mean to stress you out with my stats. I should clarify that I was applying solely for CSP spots in Australia (I was not eligible for BMP and I could in no way afford a FFP) and my first preference was to study medicine at the University of Melbourne. UoM tends to have one of the highest cut-offs for interviews for CSP candidates and lots of applicants had GPAs higher than me which is why I say comparatively, my GPA was not 'great'. However, if you are able to apply for BMP/FFP and you're happy to study at any university across Australia, you can get a place in medical school with lower scores :)

I believe they've updated the practice test questions since a couple of years back! The style of questions also seem to evolve with time so to be safe, I'd personally use as much of the ACER resources as possible -so if they've republished, I'd purchase them as well!

after intern what is pathway for residency
@AvaKim1232 жыл бұрын
In Australia, you naturally become a 'resident' after internship (they are also called HMOs). Often times, during internship or residency years, doctors apply for speciality training. If you get onto a training program for a particular speciality, you become a 'registrar'. The application process for this differs depending on the speciality. You will need to look at each speciality college to know what you need to do in order to get onto their programs. Hope this helps :)
