See the massive migration of wild salmonids (Chinook Salmon, Coho Salmon, Brown Trout, Atlantic Salmon) in the Ganaraska River. Approximately 20,000 wild (naturally-reproduced) fish returned to spawn, and this video tries to capture what it's like to see thousands of fish moving through the blasted shallow bedrock of Port Hope.

Historic year for salmon numbers this year on the Ganny. Many made it up the ladder but many couldn’t because of the low water. Beautiful sight to see the migration of these fish and the effort they put in to reach the spawning grounds.

the government should make a passage way for all the salmon to pass easily

The strongest fish make it and those are the genetics you want to be passed on

Unfortunately the few Browns that get passed the ladder end up being flossed/snagged out of a foot of water before they can reproduce. Sadly, some people would rather take the eggs and use them to catch steelhead elsewhere while tossing the brown trout meat away.

🤣😂 YOU MUST NOT HVE SEEN THE AMERICAN RIVER IN SACRAMENTO CAL OR EVEN THE FEATHER RIVER IN OROVILLE CA. The lines of many many people. My buddy joe sold fishing line , hooks, weights, beads and swivels Thursday, Friday,3pm -8pm and Saturday and Sunday from 5 am to 8 pm and he did this august to end of October and made nearly 6 figure income every year!!

Wow! I see the Atlantic salmon reintroduction seems to be working. Beautiful fish and great video (as usual).

A handful of Atlantic’s after decades of work is hardly working

@@georgegeorge6193 the fact that some of them reached the size of those in this video means that, against all odds, these magnificent creatures CAN thrive. I thought this was a doomed program from the start but seeing this footage gives me hope.

@@fishbastard9447”thrive” is not a great word to use, especially when the video showed stocked fish. If the video showed lots of wild fish, then sure, you could say the program is working. I fish the ganny and some of the other rivers where they’ve attempted to reintroduce atlantics. There’s some, but very few. Not much of a success when a decades worth of work results in a handful of fish. It seems like there’s a larger population of pinks in Lake Ontario than atlantics, and they were never even stocked there

@georgegeorge6193 agreed. I think there would need to be a lot more work done to the spawning grounds it is obvious that is the biggest issue considering fish are returning when stocked fingerlings.

@@reeloutdoorscanada all species of migratory fish would benefit from greater access to spawning water and rehabilitation efforts. I always found it bizzare why so much money has been wasted on a species that isn’t even native to here. That species that existed here once are long gone and are never coming back
How bad anglers treat fish: snagging, suffocation, laws, and ethics.
