Very nice looking jerkbait…I don’t see that bait being sold on my usual bass fishing tackle sites….Why such heavy line for bass jerkbait fishing? You’re not looking to catch any toothy fish there. I’ve never fished a jerkbait with a 23 lb fluoro leader….12 lb max leader is about as heavy as I’ve ever used….my braid mainline for jerkbaits is not 50 lb either…I don’t exceed 20 lb max braid. You don’t want to horse a bass in with treble hook baits anyway…

This is lake Ontario. There are indeed toothy esox. Plus the presence of zebra mussels on everything call for a heavier leader on arguably some of the hardest fighting bass in North America. Ever hook a 7lb smallmouth on a jerkbait here? We have. You will want the extra margin for error.

tbh I've never seen it matter if I was using 12 or 17lb line for my cranks or jerkbaits the only time I could see that really effecting anything bite wise is for extremely pressured fish or super clear water anything beside that. I think people over think it and down size there line so much that they lose fish from either line breaking or just snapping it on cast. An im using mainly jdm baits so I'm not tryna lose every other bait because of light line.

@@BigBassDreams After re-reading my initial comments, I sounded way too critical of your choices for your line….you obviously know what you’re doing…you’re an expert at your craft and have a big passion for fishing. …I’ve been enjoying your vids when you test/review baits/gear that are less common, and you share your successes with us…I’ve bought plenty of lures over the years that never caught a fish for me, and I’m certain most every angler out there has experienced this.

@@SouthJerseyBaitReviews different story when your fishing at night for those big toothy fish as well. 50 lb braid 30 lb fluorocarbon leader.

You gonna lose most of ya fish in an improper rod. I know cause I done it. I didn't think much of the taper until I actually tried a few different kinds. Everything
