Very good explanation of your loco and all that goes into it! Great little railway too, and I love the Caley livery on the loco.

just found your channel and love your videos, the videos of Astley Green are just superb. Im slowly building up a 5" simplex as well and your example is just stunning. I can see the amount of extra detail you've added such as steam brakes and the mechanical lubricator and its just beautiful. Very much impressed and looking forward to seeing more. All the best

Hi James, thanks for your comment and for subscribing. Simplex is a good loco and will serve you well. Have fun making it. You've encouraged me to show some more maintenance and repair videos.

I really loved your video and videos of your railway in America, the locals must have loved it. I hadn’t realised you had moved back to the UK but I am pleased you still run the locos. You have inspired me to add a small end to end line in my garden and I am in the middle of purchasing a steam loco to run on it. I am a member of a club in Yorkshire which has a large track to run on but like I said your railway had bags of character and has inspired me so thank you!

Thats a shame. It was a lovely railway you had. I'm in a club already at Nottingham area.

Fair enough. Probably not that far from me for water quality then. Would love to visit your railway one day. Worth the trip!

Hi Matt, now I'm in Britain I don't have my own railway anymore but there are 5 clubs around me that have tracks. Contact me through my about page and I'll tell you where I now run.

love your work. oh if onky i had not only the machinery but the kniwledge and skill to use it to build aomething so amazing i do love the GER Prussuan blue livery. A bit like the old J69 Liverpool St pilot
@GandyDancerProductions7 жыл бұрын
Hi Steven, thanks for your comment. it's actually supposed to be Caledonia blue but now indistinguishable from GER now it's aged.

Gandy Dancer Productions well it looks very good in blue.

I thought you'd have had a model of 'Respite' & some 'NCB style' track in homage to the Astley Green & Walkden system.

If at the time I could have got plans for a 5" Austerity I might have tried building one but there wasn't anything available. Also my wife wouldn't let me build a colliery in the backyard.

Yes you did but no steam engine was hurt in the filming. It happens sometime and I wouldn't encourage it but the engine's too light to form flats on the wheels.

Thats good to know. I think I might be hard water. I'm In South East of England/middlands. Is that hardwater?

Hi Matt, I'm not that familiar with with the various water qualities. I now live in Wiltshire and it's hard here all over the county.

What do you use to add to the water in the tank to stop limescale build up?
@GandyDancerProductions5 жыл бұрын
Hi Matt, I lived in a soft water area and did nothing. Now I live in a hard water area and use filtered rainwater. This doesn't completely solve the problem but as all my boilers are copper I can de-scale them with a kettle de-scaler when needed.

There are various suppliers on Ebay and around the web. I built most of the equipment and locos myself.
