One of the most incredible things about this song (and all of BLR) is how well it has held up. Ten years is an infinity in internet time, and it gives me untold joy to watch my kids (who, at 3 and 6, weren't even alive when it came out) running around the house screaming "GANG FIGHT! GANG FIGHT! THE GANG IS DOWN TO FIGHT!" and absolutely losing their minds because they think it's so funny. A lot of the video's success has to do with the fact that (like many others have pointed out) it's not just a great parody, it's a great SONG. It--to use a phrase that, like my kids, didn't exist when it came out--slaps. Same for Seagulls. Same for Morning Dew. And so on. These are the rare examples of parodies that far surpass their sources. I can't really think of anyone who has done this so well, so consistently, for so long, except of course for Weird Al. At this point I would argue that BLR has to be right up there with him. I've listened to each of these songs like 200 times and they're still phenomenal. To get to share them with a new generation is so much fun, and kind of bonkers. Thanks for all the music.
