I like first strike a lot more than DH. True dmg ult upgrade with first strike and shadow flame makes for some crazy good dmg. Additionally, horizon focus amps all that dmg as well.

Looking up guides will be your best bet. Otherwise it comes down to knowing how to deal your oppenent. Champion knowledge makes the most difference when selecting runes. For example-Darius passive makes you bleed like crazy, so maybe going resolve w/ overgrowth and bone plating so you don't die as easy. Dealing with a long range opponent? Maybe do an sorcery build with arcane comet. OR fleet footwork so you can outrun their poking.
