Bonjour, merci d’avoir pris le temps d’écrire ce commentaire très intéressant dont je tiendrais compte lorsque j’aborderais à nouveau Gankaku…

There a a very nice applications very well thought out. I would like to add some suggestions. I personally believe kata forms that originated in china were built around a theme and not a random association of moves. This kata to me clearly comes from white crane. If you watch white crane movements the movements are fast evasive and actually use a bit of shaking in the arms and hands. The attacker needs to react to the defense in order for the follow up move to make sense. For example if you defend by him in the stomach. He would bend over from the kick. Not move or slide back. Also the attacker is mostly using a punch. Think about it how many different defensive moves are needed against a single punch. One maybe two. I think there is something else going on in this kata. Hard to tell since so many changes have occurred over the years. Personally I feel the kata has something to do with defending against attacks from the side. Remember that the initial opening move was to the left side and was changed to the front. Anyway maybe rework it with that in mind. See if it works. Also the attacker would be using charges, pushing, grabbing, punching, kicking, throwing, locking. I try to incorporate these different attacks into my defense and counters. It is almost impossible to know what the creator had in mind when the form was made. For example I don’t believe that there were any side kicks originally most like these were knee strikes. And if you knee someone in the groin they will bend over so they would not be any room to follow up with a stepping punch. So maybe the stepping punch after the knee to the groin is really a throw. Any way. Some nice moves you did.
