I’ve been in stage 2 for 8 months. I started off tolerating several egg yolks daily, 1 teaspoon fermented goat kefir, 1 teaspoon fermented goat yogurt. However the amounts of egg yolks and fermented dairy I could tolerate became less and less until recently I had to stop it. At first my gaps coach thought that this meant my body and detox system are working better so they can do more with less. But then we gradually realized how bad of a heavy metals problem I have. I watched your video on this where you talked about your husband, it was very helpful. So I’ve had to kind of take a step back, stop egg yolks and fermented dairy entirely, and I’ve started a gradual heavy metal detox program which is probably what you were talking about in your heavy metals video (since the protocol came from Dr. Becky Plotner, who was my gaps coachs’ gaps practitioner :-) Anyways no need to reply, just sharing my experience for others reading comments here, and you might be interested.

Just starting week 3 today and just added one egg yoke today, tried last week, it was too reactive, wait overnight and see how my intestines deal with it. Love it, sleeping 5-6 hrs occasionally without to much pain during the night. best I have felt in nearly 20 years. still a little bloated, but hugely improved, gas is also less, but there. Awesome results

I’m curious about the Gaps diet, I’ve always had severe food allergies, skin problems, and digestive problems. I have anaphylactic allergies to any dairy or tree nuts though. Is it possible to do that diet without these things? I was told lactose was not the problem, but an allergy to the protein in dairy etc....
@bumblebeeapothecary4 жыл бұрын
Great question! Dr. Natasha says that all of those symptoms are definitely GAPS symptoms. There are a few different ways you can go about GAPS in that situation. You can avoid nuts on GAPS quite easily. Some people add them for fun, but they're definitely not necessary. Dr. Natasha always recommends at least trying to include dairy at some point, but only raw, grass fed, cultured dairy from very healthy animals. Raw, grass fed, cultured dairy is quite different in the body from commercial, pasteurized, factory farmed dairy. You can either go through intro without dairy, to accomplish some healing, and then revisit intro while doing the dairy introduction protocol. Or, you can carefully do the dairy introduction protocol the first time staring GAPS. A certified GAPS professional can help you figure out which approach to try. Hope that helps!

Hi Marissa! Thank you so much for bringing GAPS to my life. I was miserable with digestive issues and couldn't make it through my daily life. I purchased GAPS to Go and I LOVE IT and feel so much better just after 7 days. I was wondering if coconut nut oil gives the same benefits as the Tallow or lard. I have lots of coconut oil on had I'd like to use but I would most of all like to heal. Thanks again!
@bumblebeeapothecary4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much, this makes me so happy! Coconut oil does have some great benefits, but since it has pretty powerful anti fungal and antimicrobial properties, it can trigger some die off. If you do want to use it, I recommend introducing it slowly to see how you do, and build up the amount from there. For the best healing results, Dr. Natasha recommends animal fats. Hope that helps!

Hi marissa.. my daughter’s eczema become worse when she is eating fermented juice (sauerkraut), even when i just give her a drop. What can i do? Will she stay on the first stage for a long time?
@bumblebeeapothecary4 жыл бұрын
I'm glad to help! That is common for people who have a histamine reaction. It just means that her gut needs to heal more. She might need to stay on stage 2 for a while. I would take the fermented foods out for a while, and let her gut do some healing with just the other stage 1 or 2 foods. Then try again with the fermented foods later, going very slowly. You may even need to really dilute the drop at first. Hope that helps! Sending well wishes!

Hi Marissa Do you have any suggestions for encouraging children to drink broth with raw garlic? (I have watched your videos on GAPS and children and really appreciated them. We did lots of story time at the table the first week. It was a lifesaver!) I am struggling to get my children to drink broth with the raw garlic in it. I have tried dividing 1 small clove between all of their cups but they call it “spicy”. They don’t mind the egg yolk and ask for “just egg” most mornings. How important is the raw garlic for them? I am just wondering if it a battle worth fighting or not. We have been on the intro for about 5 weeks and are on Stage 4 right now. P.S. My husband and I share this account. This is Mrs. V 😊 I appreciated your advice to “keep it simple” as we have navigated this GAPS journey. Your words of encouragement echo in my head on the days I feel discouraged or feel like I spent most of my time the kitchen on a particular day. Thank you for your great work!
@bumblebeeapothecary3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words! Raw garlic is a pretty strong flavor for kids. I usually add crushed garlic to the pot of meat stock at the end of cooking, let it sit for a bit with the heat off, and then strain out the meat stock for us to drink/eat. Our kids (6, 4, 2) enjoy meat stock this way and don't complain of it being spicy. I would try that instead of raw garlic for them, as the raw garlic is probably a bit too much.

Do we have to add eggs? I don't tolerate them
@bumblebeeapothecary5 жыл бұрын
Definitely listen to your body! If you know that eggs are a problem, you can leave them out for now and try them later. Before you try them, you can do the skin sensitivity test and see what happens.

@bumblebeeapothecary3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Great questions. Yes, yeast overgrowth has to do with unhealthy gut flora, and following GAPS will definitely help. Dr. Natasha recommends full GAPS while pregnant, not intro, and full GAPS is a very healthy way to nourish a growing baby. Congratulations!

Thank you Marissa, this video is very helpful because I wandering about this stage, and I wanted to ask about the raw egg yolke. We are buying the organic eggs, free range and I noticed that in some of the eggs there a small spot of blood. Are you have a advice for us with this issue?
@bumblebeeapothecary4 жыл бұрын
You're welcome! Great question. I recommend buying eggs from a source you trust, like a local farmer who has organic chickens on grass. The little spot of blood isn't dangerous, it just happens sometimes.

@bumblebeeapothecary2 жыл бұрын
Dr. Natasha has butter added later, after ghee, because it has lactose in it (while ghee doesn't). If you don't like ghee, you could do beef tallow, lamb tallow, chicken fat, lard, etc. :)

Grains aren't allowed on GAPS, so if it is a flour made from grains, I wouldn't add it. Also, if she is on stage 2, she isn't at the point where she can have nut flours, either. I'd stick with the allowed foods for best results. Hope that helps!

I am on day 11 and and still have diarrhea and loose stool. All I’m eating is phase 1 foods except black coffee, half decaf. I have a bad reaction to the homemade yogurt so I’ve just been adding sauerkraut juice. Is this still die off at this stage? Or could it be something else?
@bumblebeeapothecary4 жыл бұрын
It does sound like die off. Depending on how you were eating before, your body is probably in "clean up mode." Most people only stay on stage 1 for a short time, so I would try transitioning to stage 2. Good idea to do the sauerkraut juice instead of the yogurt. Thank you so much! It sounds like die off to me. The body uses up a lot of magnesium during detox, so I would try epsom salt baths and magnesium lotion. If you go to bumblebeeapothecary(dot)com I have a link to where you can get it. It's a safe way boost magnesium levels quickly without risking irritating the gut. I hope that helps!
