NASCAR brand awareness is not a problem in Europe. The problem is that races are not broadcast anywhere in the continent, and that races are usually in the middle of the night for us. So it's not easy to follow the sport at all.

They had 150hp more than the GTE class as they didn't run the engine restrictor and whilst finishing 39th, they were the 2nd last car still driving to finish. However it's still an achievement and added some variety. Prep the car to GTE regs and come back next year.

@@CrewGuyPJ 150 pounds is the weight of one person, that's not that big of a difference. And that Camaro had an excess of 200 hp more than the GTEs, not 150. Infact, with 770 - 790hp, it was running upwards of 250hp more than some of the GTEs such as the Porsches which were running around the 520hp mark. On top of that, the GTEs suffer from more drag due producing more downforce, which requires more HP to compensate in a strait line. That's why it made the GTEs look slow down the back straight. It wasn't because the camaro can draft, all cars can, even your family SUV can draft the car infront, this isn't a unique trait for cup cars. And it certainly did not keep pace with the LMP2s, its average times were over 10 seconds slower per lap than the slowest LMP2 cars.

As a big GT fan it was a delight to see what a properly tuned American stock car could do on European soil. With the change in regulations garage 56 were able to shave 400lbs off the car, and were outpacing the GT3 cars by 4 seconds per lap!

The issue is that they didn't follow regulations. Still a remarkable feat, but unlike the GT3 cars, they weren't tied down to certain rules and BoP didn't affect them. If the GT3 teams were also given the same freedom, it's likely they'll build a car much faster than what G56 did (potentially even faster than most LMP2 cars, assuming LMP2 still stuck to their regulations).

We know these "old style" pushrod V8s can rev like crazy. This one was intentionally rev limited since the crew didn't know how the pushrod valvetrain would hold up for 24 hours of continuous boundary-pushing. Now they have a better idea and hopefully they'll remove any rev limits. As an example, there are drag race classes where small block V8s, similar to this one, are revved up to 12k or 13k RPMs at launch. The IHRA Factory Modified class of the late 80s is an example of this. They rev like crazy and put out crazy amounts of power. The street version of the Chevy 302 from the late 60s was able to rev over 8000 rpms to create a ton of power, as another example. Probably true of the Ford 302 and Mopar smaller engines, as well.

I hate to break it to you but the Corvette is the car to beat in GTE/GT3. Most 1sts, podiums, and driver + manufacturer trophies. Corvette has 9 victories at 24 Hours of Le Mans, including winning what is now the final year of GTE Am.

Very interesting project, I was very excited and curious to see how it performs during the race Calling it a "stock" car however it is too far of a stretch imo with all the heavy modifications, but of course it is meant to be a PR stunt Even with all the underfloor aero, wider tyres, side wings, carbon fibre breaks and world champions at the wheel of it, was not even able to clear the gte AM field, was battling out most of the race with the 1st gte AM place (before having the gearbox issue)

Nasko earned the respect of their competitors. They will learn lessons as to what they need to compete more effectively next year. There’s also lessons going to be learned in terms of durability of parts and components to compete, which ultimately will end up dripping back into NASCAR itself on the plus side. I can’t use the NASCAR original and the fast which when you consider but you’re going round a conventional twisty racecourse it’s a massive asset probably closer to the original moonshine as we’re doing round those country roads LOL Which, in reality was probably close to the European rallying ( Those people are absolutely nuts. The speed they go hurtling around in terms of danger rallying makes NASCAR look like a Sunday driving school.) I think it’s healthy for the sport, the NASCAR sent a vehicle over and I hope they send more vehicles over to compete at Le Mon. Hopefully they’ll do better next year. In terms of podium finish. Driving for 24 hours straight is a different beasts from what they used to, but ultimately that research will yield vehicles which can stand more hammer, which in turn will help keep cost down to run into these teams. Things like fuel efficiency around the tight bends, for example, America lorries do better going 70 miles an hour on a straight highway while European trucks which are limited to 50 miles an hour round much tighter roads in Europe, get better fuel efficiency and manoeuverability on European roads. Either way, it’s healthy competition .

In the video they stated that they replaced the gearbox which us illegal under Lemans rules. Lemans instituted this rule after Audi replaced a gearbox in an incredibly short period of time. The current rule states that you can repair a broken gearbox but you cannot replace the unit.

Now it's cool and all but let's not gloss over the fact that they had to replace the transmission. Le Mans has a rule that teams are not able to replace transmissions, engines, differentials, or transfer cases. This car was, effectively, out of the race and would not have finished, except that Garage 56 went to the stewards and asked real nicely that they let them slide on this since they were in an experimental class all by themselves, and would get no official accolades from the race organizers. Le Mans relented, and allowed them to replace the transmission, but if this car were racing in an actual class at Le Mans, this car would have finished four hours short. Le Mans made an exception this one time because the final results wouldn't have mattered either way.

I saw videos from all over the US about this car. Loved it. At the end of the day it’s US against them! Go USA. Now we gotta jump behind Cadillac (finished 3rd overall!!!) and the Vette.
