This brings back memories. As a young boy my dad would do garage door installs on weekends. Or during the week after his main job. I would get to go with him now and then. My job was to set up the saw horses and put all the hardware on each door panel while he put up the track. A little bit different than you. But as I remember he did the tracks first. Maybe I'd have the first panel ready not too sure anymore .... gettin on 50 years ago now. Biggest doors I ever helped to install were train round house doors. They were beasts .... Not sure of the exact dimensions but ... I remember that for him and me to carry the last panel up his wooden extension ladders were maxed out and they just reached the header with barely enough room for the door itself to stick out. So I'm thinking the door had to be 10 panels high at 2ft apiece. Pretty sure it was right at 20ft wide ... and insulated ..... The springs were as big around as my thighs and there were 4 of them. We had a bear of a time winding them. Thanks for the memories.

I used once a welding machine for replacing my iron front gate. The amperage is completely different from iron to aluminum and welding aluminum you need to know what you are doing. The experience makes the difference. You Paul, you are a person who got A LOT experience. Watching you assembling the garage doors it seems easy to do, but is not. I`m loving watching your videos! I don’t want to tell you that you’re doing it wrong, because there’s always a way to do it differently, but I install garage doors for a living. If you install the first panel and then install your lower track portions without the radius track, you can just slide the other panels in without having to hold the panels with 2x4s. Again, there’s a million ways to skin it, but just thought I’d give you a different way.

Yes. As a professional myself, installing the vertical tracks after the first section is in place is the way to go.

@@robertschwartz5512 When he gets the sections stacked, he will adjust the vertical track so all the sections are sealing against the rubber flap. Not how I do it but it works with the type of seal he has. Top Flap.

It's not that expensive to hire a professional. Learn how to cut your grass around your house! That is more important than installing your own garage doors! If will install your own garage door and opener without experience, you will start having on issues with your doors and openers as often overgrown grass!

Im sure you know, but careful welding galvanized steel without a respirator...or make sure to grind off the galvanized coating before welding it.

You should never weld garage door tracks in the first place the manufacturer has a bolt for every perpose and placement

Are there not red screws and bolts that go into the hardware that holds spring tension? Every door I have worked on had them to be a warning to not touch that or you will likely get hurt. The bottom bracket holding the cable should have the red headed screws indicating danger.

Are there provisions to install the door panel stiffeners on all of the garage door panels to provide extra collapse in strength resistance in the event of a very high wind storm? Great install video! That was a lot of parts to deal with. 👍

Yes. Different areas have different codes to follow for wind load. Coastal areas have higher wind load needs than flat lands like here in Michigan.

The Strut he installed is so the trolley opener doesn't damage the top section as it pulls the door open. Florida, for one, has very different codes for garage doors. The doors are not insulated, no need, which is not as strong as insulated, but they are heavy Gage and they have hurricane bracing for 16' wide doors that you install before a storm.

I was wondering out of sheer curiosity... do you have to lubricate the roller pins and rollers so they move smoothly? I was also going to say so they won't rust, but all the steel looks galvanized, so that answers that question. As always, nice job! Love watching your videos!

Mad Hatter I install doors for a living. I use PB blaster for lubricant. Some companies make specific garage door lube, but honestly its just overpriced all purpose lube. Never use grease! Dirt sticks to it and you’ll hate yourself later.

If possible put some bright LED work lights, right, left, of the door opening when filming your videos with a very light background. You loose the inside details in the bright-light background shots.

The aluminum will likely rub the door over time... We run into that issue a lot on doors. Aluminum is for the outside. If your openings were framed with 2x6 like they should be, you would have not had to modify the tracks.

I completely understand what you are saying. This is a post frame style build so all my lags go into a 3-ply 2x6 laminated column which run up both sides of the door. I have 2x6 framing going across the top of the door. But I didn’t want to build out the sides do to the way it’s getting finished on the inside. If I would have went with out the high lift I wouldn’t have had to modify the track but I felt it was worth getting the doors up. I need to do better setting the stage for videos where people are just watching one video vs the entire series. Thank you for your insight. It is truly appreciated.

Marshall Remodel When it comes to openers, I would suggest you take a look at the Liftmaster 8500w or Genie 6070H... A traditional rail opener with the Highlift, could cause some issues. The highlift you got isn’t much and breaks away decent, so a rail opener will work... but it might cause issues down the road.

I design Custom doors and windows, custom millwork and garage doors. I kept pausing anytime it showed the sticker to see what brand they were. The inside of the doors look like a Clopay with 12.9 R value, but I couldn't tell. Are your windows insulated as well? I'm also curious about the size. They were only 4 panels, but look bigger than a 9x7. The more I watch you the more I am liking all the white and with that fantastic job you did flashing you can power wash almost everything! Love everything about it!

Is there not a code for an Hframe is this area? Sometimes those lags don't hit right without one.. If you had slapped up an Hframe you wouldn't have the welding. I also imagine your cables are rubbing on the track since the drums are offset, attached to the header? Also, may have voided the warranty for the welding. All this because of a few missing 2x6. Other than that, great video.

@@MrPostFrame if you go jackshaft, raise the backs of you horizontals and inch or two. It will help keep weight on the cables. I've installed quite a few liftmaster 8500w openers over the last year. I like them.

@@mikef6879 That, and take a half turn off the spring. Track pitch won't matter once 3/4 of the door is in the vert. The 8500 likes a slightly heavy door or else it will start jumping as it gets to the floor and reverse itself.

@@ringo574 OK, Just saying, But. You can't just add lift. Cable length, drums, and springs will come into play. He ordered these doors specific to the headroom he has in his garage. The drums, cables, and springs are specific to how the door will travel.

As a garage door co owner and 25 years of putting in doors I have never seen it done this way every thing is ass backwards your first section goes in first and level it then you level your tracks off of section if I seen one of my guys doing it this way he would not be working for me the next day!!!! People watching this place consider hiring a perfetional door installer the springs are very dangerous and can break bones and Kill YOU!!! My next point is you NEVER cut the top of your track you must cut track at very bottom. I am sorry I am normal not a negative person but this guy has no clue!!!!!!!
