I just watch ur 2 videos on how to insulate my garage which is not at all the reason I came to KZbin, yet here I am! Thanks for creating such well thought out content - love to watch a perfectionist in action!!! 😂😂😂
@able7243 жыл бұрын
To get better results from your insulation job, you should consider adding some weather sealant. Closing the air gaps around the garage doors will do a lot to help retain heat in the winter and keep it out in the summer. I noticed daylight coming from under one of your garage doors. You can replace the weather stripping on the bottom to get a better seal. This will help with temperatures and unwanted pests. There is also a product on the market that you can use to replace your rails so that the garage door pushes tighter against the wall when closed, but those are pretty pricey.

The reflective layer needs an air gap between it and the door in order to work properly. Foam on the inside and foil on top would be the most effective way to do it.

Great original video and a great follow up. In my case I used just a reflective layer on my door because of the climate that i live in. Works very well at keeping it comfortable enough to work in my garage. Got to love the critics. 😄

As always , another informative video, i didn't know that garage springs need re-tensioning every few years, a great topic for a future video 😉
@RestorationForBeginners3 жыл бұрын
I don't know if they actually need to be retensioned that often, but I'm hearing that you should at least check. Super simple, takes like 20 seconds to test the balance.

Great Video very detailed and straight forward. Being in South Florida we get the best also Luckily our door doesn't face total direct sun. I am a home improvement guy and anything to cool off the guarge is a win. Looks good to me I will end up doing something very close to this very soon. i would have to agree with what to tell the HOA. I can only speak for our zone if you didn't have an HOA fee and bank that money yearly when major improvements can up you would have plenty to cover it. I couldn't live in a HOA my home is my property and no one will tell me what color I paint my door. Plus I have a have 2 German Shepherd. You have a great setup keep the videos rolling Good Job well done.

Reflective side exposed is correct. Reflective surfaces only help when they are in air. Masking tape usually pulls paint in just a few weeks. You can still heat it with a hair dryer or use alcohol if you want to remove it later. They make a wide pink insulation tape, but that foil tape will also work. Don't worry about all the opinions. Good video.

I installed a heavily insulated garage door. That sucker has a 20degree temp change from inside to outside. It has windows, but blacking them out with vinyl covered coroplast keeps out the lookie lous. With the mini split running, it can be 105 outside and a nice cool 75 inside. Plenty cool enough considering the ceiling isn't insulated.

I've seen plenty of homes in our area with aluminum doors customized with wood cladding being serviced by just a 1 HP door motor. I think you will be just fine lifting a few pieces of insulation. :D
@RestorationForBeginners3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's not necessarily the weight of the doors, it's the balance maintained by the springs. some guys are convinced that the motor will be ruined very quickly if it's even a bit out of balance... I have my doubts about that, but it IS true that the springs need to be readjusted if the door won't hold still in any position.

1 time for the cool HOA. Some can be nightmares so I hear….but like you , my experience has not been that, so yeah I agree with u, I wud rather pay my HOA fees and keep my home nice knowing everyone is also required to do the same thing! Cuz ppl in general just have various tolerances for things like grass height(9 inches is too too much ok!), garbage in front of the house, parking on their lawns with cars that are rusting away, playing loud music at wee hours of the night with disregard for who has to work the next day, etc etc…so yeah screw that “down with the HOA” biz. Maybe certain ones need to lighten up a bit….but mine is cool. So yeah I agree with u man,cuz it beats the alternative.

Both vids were great. It's natural to want to tell the HOA where to go. I feel that way as well. But in my complex, some folks have painted their garage doors and entrance doors different colours and I can tell you, it really sh*ts up the look of the complex. Love the blue Z btw.

Are your outside walls and ceiling insulated? I am having my ceiling and outside walls insulated as I write. They were not insulated. Once complete, I plan on insulating the garage doors similar to what you show here. I am hoping going from no insulation whatsoever to insulation everywhere will result in a great more than the 10 degrees you indicated.

Yeah 6 to 10° is huge when it is 106° outside. My garage is at 90° at the height of the heat of the day. #HEATWAVE2021. I used the reflectix on the hinge sections, and the foam boards on the panels. My garage is quite different with 4 long panels and the hinge areas are about 5 inches high. P.S. our HOA sucks. My son bought a 1985 F350 chassie cab duely to fix up. We had 3 complaints filed because it is ugly. Nevermind it is tagged, insured, and driveable. We had to move it to my parents home becauseit is unsightly. They really are a bunch of AHoles..

You have excessively high expectations of what your HOA will potentially be worth to you. Give it time friend, it's a scam to seperate you from your money. Time will prove this point to you and ultimately drive you away from them entirely, always does.
