I USED to steam and dwell if I missed out on a great deal. Then my dad, who wasn't a businessman, said something that I've lived by ever since; "There's ALWAYS deals out there." People get in $$$ jams all the time. People need cash quick. Odds are great you'll come across many deals and you'll miss out on many deals. Chill, retool your buying strategy, prepare for the next deal.

True! I’ve gotten great deals and I’ve overpaid. That’s all part of the game but no matter what there will always be another day and another deal

Yep. Always be early. Even if you’re on time you’re already late as my old boss always said.

Jermo, you proved your point and probably lost a subscriber. "If" you really do care. As you can see in the comments people already trolling Richard, good going 👍

It's funny because I went to a yard sale this very morning. It was set to start at 9:30AM and I was there maybe between 5 - 10 minutes later. I could have been there on the dot, but this was the first time I ever go to an advertised yard sale looking for comics and I felt a bit weird if I showed up right when they were starting. Anyway, as I was parking I already saw a couple of people there. I went up and saw that one guy was already buying a whole box of all the video game stuff. They were just negotiating the price. I was like, wow, this guy showed up here ready to buy all this stuff right on the button. Early bird gets the worm as they say. Luckily for me, I wasnt there for video game stuff, just comics, so no big deal for me. I also drove like 40 minutes for this, so I can understand what this guy must have felt. BUT... you are 100% correct. If you show up late and you see someone else already buying everything, it's on you. After what I learned today I know that if I'm driving that far and I really want to buy stuff, I need to show up right when they're opening. I might also email the seller to let them know I'm coming and I'm counting on the stuff being available when they open.

It stinks but it's first come first serve and if they call ahead of time or maybe they had connections you can't really be mad I feel bad for him driving 45 minutes

LoL he says no early birds but get there early and and stand at the driveway and flash 2000.00 dollars in hundreds at the owner, and he might change his mind. Never underestimate the power of what money can do, it can change alot of minds.

Seller not at fault. Frustrating for the commenter, but the guy was selling comics at a garage sale. Clearly he needed money and was happy with the deal he made. He had no previous arrangement with the commenter.

Arrive early, but understand you will always. ALWAYS lose to a dealer. As a collector, you are second tier.
@derekrice52037 ай бұрын
If he got there at 1010 and yard sale started at 1000 then he can’t gripe. Should have got there early and asked to make an offer before he sold them.
@PunguinYoga7 ай бұрын
Yep. The guys who got there first did nothing wrong. I'm sure it's frustrating driving for a bit and nothing's left. But, as others have stated, get there early and wait in your car. Plus, if those guys were from a shop, he has to remember comics are not just a hobby for them. They're how they pay bills and feed their kids. Hope he has better luck next time.

Chris, (a little off topic) when I first got back into collecting your videos on comic supplies were the first ones I watched. I've always wanted to know how often you change your backing boards? If you've answered this before I apologize, but I don't remember hearing it. Thanks a lot.

So humbled to hear that my videos helped! With Mylars, I have not changed them out at all, and as long as I keep my books in the right type of environment, I shouldn't ever have to for the rest of my life. For poly bags? It depends on the brand, really. I've had books in BCW bags for over 10 years that are still perfectly fine. I've had Ultra Pro bags that I've had to change out after a few years because they got so wavy. But poly bags today, even if they get wrinkly, still hold solid in terms of basic protection. Also, poly bags tend to get stressed more from older books, since the newsstock paper releases different types of gases than the modern magazine type paper.

The seller's honesty may be questionable, yet it's within his rights to manage his property as he sees fit, even if it means disregarding his own time constraints. While I disapprove of his approach, one principle I adhere to is that persistence in the hunt will eventually lead you to the comics you desire to collect. Keep searching and best of luck in your searching.
@vorazi087 ай бұрын
Why would you question anything about the seller? This guys has no idea when the buyers showed up. He has absolutely no grounds to question their integrity. Hell, he doesn't even know what kind of product was in the boxes. Why get pissed for no reason? Go grab breakfast, or an early lunch, and head home. Next time, get there on time.

First great to see you back on here. Second I 100% agree with what you said. Any time I see an ad on Facebook marketplace, craigslist, etc I always show up 10-15 minutes early and ready to go. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. If someone shows up before you and has been there digging you can't expect to stop and let you look through what they grabbed or expect the seller to hold everything till everyone can look.
@darrelldent90837 ай бұрын
Yeah, that's a bummer, no sense in being pissed, too late, but you learned. I went to a small con a few years ago, 1/2 hour drive, looking for silver/bronze stuff, less half the vendors sold comics and no silver or bronze stuff, all modern. I was a bit disappointed, left empty handed.

Jerno what's up! Great advice on this video. Dude was a day late and a dollar short lol question... What do you all think about selling a bulk collection by silent bid? I've got 50 boxes and I'm thinking I post an ad let everybody have an hour to look over it, and then put their bid in a hat, highest bid wins. Just spitballing wondering what I'm going to do with all these books. Cheers and best wishes 🎉
