Building a woodgas generator is definitely on my to do list. The US Gov actually published instructions years ago on how to build one out of common materials, so farmers could run their tractors in the event of a gas shortage.

In essence there is a terrible when you use a fan of some type to pull the air through the system however that's on a regular gasifier he used to run absolute whole town with lighting and fuel to use stoves and stuff on wood smoke

It would not work as a gas generator, as the working principle of a woodgas generator relies on the absence of oxygen. Otherwise the wood gas would burn immediatly inside the barrel. That being said, a turbo barrel powered Lada would also make for a good video.

More like charcoal than firewood, but it was interesting. In Japan during WWII, with gasoline in very short supply, busses ran on charcoal. But when they came to a hill, passengers would have to get off and push.

If you need to get excellent performance.The coal gas need to mixed with fresh air to get good AFR air fuel ratio The mixing ratio must be adjusted before the thote box .. you can use the oxygen sensor And AFR gauge The system pressure losses is high turbo charger might make it perform better than gasoline... I doubt a person can just disconnect injection harness on a yota and have it start. If you just unplugged computer, I don't think you could get ignition and timing to function at all but I definitely don't know import computers very well.

People were using those all over Europe in the 40's. Literally hundreds of thousands. I can't imagine it doing your catalytic converter much good on a modern vehicle, but I don't really know one way or the other. Probably best suited for an older motor, but it's neat seeing it work on something far more modern with all it's electronic management crap.

I think it also can potentially carry jail time too, though I don't remember the exact penalties. There's also potential forfeiture of your mechanic's license, depending on where you are.

They added a manual throttle body to the front of the intake. It pretty much has two throttle valves performing what you describe, one for mixture and the other into the engine. I’m certain it doesn’t have much of an rpm range

Ahh a Gasifier! I watched a tv show called Colony where people had to survive and 1 group built and showed how to build one of these to power their truck. They also showed how to cook down animal fat to produce fuel for a diesel engine, a wind turbine attached to an alternator to charge car batteries which were then used to weld. I have kept these things in my mind for a time I may need it. Your video should help give ideas on how to make the gasifier better, so thank you

I would take the smoke feed from the top, add some kind of filter made from metal in the top of the burner to stop large particles floating, use wood or real coal, maybe add a pump inline that can be controlled with pwm and add a throttle position potentiometer that can be adjusted to set how much gas is wanted at what throttle body position.

Charcoal is the end result of a gasifier. Starting with it doesn't make too much sense. Wood breaking down (pyrolysing) into charcoal is what generates the syngas to run an engine

You need to make a full fledged biofuel refinery next. Using the Fischer-Tropsch process you can convert the gaseous hydrocarbons into a liquid form, then use a fractional distillation column to separate the fuels into their different grades.

You have to use dry raw wood to produce fuel. Charcoal has already been degassed since it’s been burned Already. Same difference as bituminous coal and coke (coal coke). They both have been degassed

Would work better if you had a separate container to heat up wood not charcoal. Then run a tube at the top of the container for the gas not smoke to go through a cooler then filters would be cleaner and no smoke to filter out and would get more gas the way it's done now is a large portion of the gas is getting consumed in the fire. Have seen a few people make these and get them to work decently of course they were trucks not cars lol
