Garage 54 Couple of suggestions: For faster spool-up of the turbo, shorten your exhaust-to-turbo pipes as much as possible Your carburettor should be downstream of the turbo IF(I know it's a stretch) if you can get one, obtain an aluminum cased Powerglide transmission. @@TheRogueAdventurers yep, the fuel goes through the turbo... They say it's not the best for turbo longevity, although some older vehicles came from the factory the same way. They call it a "draw through" setup... You can also run a carb after the turbo instead ("blow through" setup), which is better, but as said above, the carb needs a few mods, or needs to be placed in a sealed box (basically the pressure inside the bowls needs to build with boost pressure, or it's gonna... well... work "backwards")

@Jupiter__001_3 жыл бұрын
@@welloffthepace3127 Because most carbs run with atmospheric pressure so they don't work properly when you give them boost. You can tune one for a higher pressure than one bar, but that isn't helpful when the boost is varying a lot like on a turbo. For that application you need either a pressurised diaphragm carburettor (which is considered an early fuel injection system), or proper fuel injection either mechanical or electronic. The diaphragm-based carburettor is used on many WWII aircraft with superchargers.

Well, I was expecting a little more but hey, it's still awesome. It needs more than 3lb of boost tho. Issue is, they have a giant turbo on an engine that doesn't Rev. They need a little dinky turbo that flattens out at like 4k rpm. Then it'd spool faster and would have so much more lower end. It'd be better overall.

@paul_1094 жыл бұрын
On one hand, the turbo can take damage when it's working with air-fuel mixture (which is why the carb ist mostly between turbo and intake), but the carb itself works better when it has normal atmospheric pressure outside und the turbo sucks the air through it instead of pushing it through the carb. The way the guys made it, the carb is going to work pretty well, but the turbo will suffer. That's why there are so few cars with carb and turbo

Thats exactly what I was thinking... I had never seen a carb fitted in front of a turbo. I'm surprised that even runs. These boys need to get themselves a 4 barrel carb and fabricobble an intake manifold, then feed the turbo into it.
@1Longranger4 жыл бұрын
Actually it will spool up faster.
@Qwerty12359454 жыл бұрын
Martyn Watson it can’t be a good thing to have the intake hoses collapsing under vacuum. Also carb after turbo would avoid the icing they’re experiencing.
@1Longranger4 жыл бұрын
Back in the 80's I had few draw through turbo/carb set ups. The intake piping was all solid aluminium. What happen is that when the manifold is under high vacuum the turbo impellor is almost freespooling (it isn't drawing much air, which takes energy). That results in higher turbo shaft rpm's. Works well with the side benefit of charge cooling. Primitive, but it worked. I also ran a 30% water/methanol injection upstream of the carb. This does cause impellor leading edge erosion over time though.
@legros7314 жыл бұрын

Shouldn't the turbo be pumping air into the carburetor? I mean normally it pumps air into the intake manifold, so in that case shouldn't it pump air into the carburetor instead of sucking air through it? This way it compresses the air-fuel mixture instead of the air all alone. I am just wondering. And also... You should drag race that thing xD

No need for an intercooler with a carb - the fuel evaporative cooling takes care of that. But you are probable getting carburetor iceing because you have the carb in front of the turbo. Best to either get a specialist blow through carb, or build a sealed box (+ high pressure fuel pump) so you can blow through the carb that will help solve the iceing problem.

W124 Automatic gearbox, Split-Intake adapter to fit 2 carburators just throw the uaz to the 2nd port and make it open from 1/3rd of first onward, if that works, then get another of those new ones and replace the uaz-carb with that ( 100hp Requires 735.95Litres-atmosphere Per Second, Demand increase is linear to power output wanted) (Engine Displacement x Rpm = Litres per Minute ) (1000 litres atmosphere per minute (L atm/min of power= 16.67 litres atmosphere per second (L atm/s / power) (1 atm = 1.013 bar) TL;DR= 1bar of boost on engine requires 2 stock carburators on intake. Should help on calculating the requirements of the engine air to desired power. Retard the ignition timing so you dont blow the engine next.

@Martyn Watson false. carbs do not need intercoolers, because they atomize fuel FAR better then efi. it atomizes so well it actually supercools the intake charge. thats why he was mentioning the ice on the carb in this video.

Before they changed the carb, the engine didn't missfire that much, you can clearly hear the difference

I've never understood how a turbo works with a carb, don't carbs rely on negative pressure to get the gas into the intake? How does that work unless the carb is before the turbo?
@sc0tte1-4164 жыл бұрын
I just noticed they had the carb before the turbo on this setup however

Ive never seen anyone put the carb before the turbo. I dont see why it wont work I just think that carb is too small.

Carbs can be put before a turbo, that's called a draw-through setup
