Dual transmissions are pretty common when people do it themselves, they're set up end to end and make a 1 to 1 ratio, and go 1 2 3 4 and 4 3 2 1 to get a higher end speed, that's the power of gear ratios

Offroaders have two gearboxes, one primarly to choose 1-6 or more, just basic gears and another gearbox with two gears high and low, the low range is for driving offroad, when you need more torque, and high range for normal roads

Those checkbook hotrodder guys probably write a lot of their checks to custom shops(i.e. professionals) to do this sort of work. They certainly aren't building them in their backyards.

Back in the 80's we built a Lada with a 7.2ltr v8 chevy engine, had a holley 800 double pumper on it and a auto box, it was wicked, beat a turbo technics cozzy in a 1/4 mile drag race at york drag strip, ran an 11.4 1/4 mile, do have pics and a video, i'll see if i can upload them to my profile over the next few days.

What I love about your channel is that its all about a group of friends having fun and building crazy projects for no other reason other than "Just because you can"....all these other shows that are all just watching a bunch of bearded and tattooed men "making custom cars" and all their fake drama and sponsored by an endless list of companies.....not only are they all pretty much exactly the same, but everyone knows that what you see on reality TV is all fake and staged. I'm a Russian myself and I know of no 7 liter gasoline ZIL engine... The only popular model of such sort is the "ЗИЛ-508.10" which is a 6 liter OHV V8 designed to run on 76 octane gasoline, the truck with that engine (ZIL-4331) received a factory rating of 36L/100km (6.5 us mpg), in reality that could raise to 40-50L/100km (5 mpg and less) Also, you might probably think that this is some 1960's stuff, but sadly no. iirc these engines are designed to be versatile and run on several kinds of fuel including ethanol, stale petrol, kerosene etc, by design the economy has to be awful for there to be headroom to use these alternative fuels out in the field. you're looking at about a litre per minute.

Dubble gearbox is normal in Sweden. Thats a way to restrict the car to 30km/h and then it is ok to drive the car as an 15 year old. Google "a-traktor/epa-traktor"

yeah, almost every car on the road here in the U.S. could keep up with it, but the idea is that it is faster than the stock engine.

Inspiring. I am tempted to cut into my dodge MAGNUM to create that mid engine diesel mostrocity that I awaken from in the occasional nightmare. But, for now, I'll enjoy it as-is, since I am finishing 'bringing it back from the dead'.
