Tires are rated to deal with potholes at high speed. The waving of metal strings keeps it together but not for long the heavier you go over the limit. Wheels are usually the weak point in real driving condition unless something punctures your tire as usual.
@peglor3 ай бұрын
The static load is the easy part, heat buildup in the tyre while it's rolling is the real tyre killer. Driving for a couple of hours at highway speed is where the load rating matters - very few real world users would be happy if all their tyres could manage was to survive a lap of the car park in 1st gear.

Love it, Cheers from England! I once put a Battery powered forklift on my trailer, the owner of the forklift said it weighed 4.5 ton, turns out it was almost 8 ton, Lets say even though it was a 4 wheel trailer it rolled all of the rims through the tires plus the ground and over a few miles all the air escaped plus the trailer was making some very very alarming noises, like pops and bangs and moans and groans! Once we got it to it's new location, all the tires was flat as a pancake and we bent the ramps like bananas trying to get it off. All this on 4 old Ford Granarda alloy wheels that was over 20 years old already, unfortunately only 1 survived to this day. Moral of the story, never believe any one when they say there forklift is lite! Keep up the good work and keep the video's coming, full respect from the North East of England.

I mean for experimenting is pretty hardcore to install 7+ tons on EACH wheel but driving would be insane. I have seen people who loaded up their cars with 2-3 tons of cargo but anything more would be insane and dangerous. I drive a 3.5 ton van at work and empty it's at 2600 kgs. If I load it with one ton of cargo I can already feel it driving more difficult and braking is a problem, especially if I descend a mountain. So overall WEIGHT is not everything. When you load your trailer or van with stuff don't think all about if tires can handle it, because clutch will take a beating and also your brakes!! Stay safe and love this channel

When breaking in strong curves the whole weight of the car may be on just one tire, so they can bear at least 1.5 tons. In addition when hitting bumps or potholes the weight is multiplied. This is calculated by engineers for safe driving. My opinion though..

True. The rating means that the tire should operate at given weight indefinitely. So you can drive as long as you want at max speed that a tire is rated to. And as you said - drive on uneven terrain, curves etc. It's not just static load.

Got thrown for a loop when the translation kept saying "Kilos" for what looked to me clearly like Bar. So a quick note, a kilogramforce/centimeter^2, is a deprecated SI measurement that is equivalent to 98-ish KPa, whereas a Bar is equal to 100KPa, so there's your factoid of the day. (1 bar is roughly 14.5 PSI for the Americans)
@MadScientist2673 ай бұрын
Yes all of the videos are like that and it drives me nuts
@SwapBlogRU2 ай бұрын
Technically you're correct. Kilos is sort of a colloquial term, and while it's not entirely accurate, it's "as near as makes no difference", as they say.
@MadScientist2672 ай бұрын
@@SwapBlogRU Yes it's a prefix and understanding the context is the only reason it still makes any sense when he says it. "Kilo" by itself tho usually refers to mass, but even bending that to pressure as we do here in the states with PSI ("pounds"), it still doesn't make sense. At 3 "kilos", that would be a mere ~6.6 psi, where 3 bar, and what is actually meant in the videos, almost 45 psi. Not exactly a trivial difference. Those of us that get it, get it, but imagine how confused someone without the insight would be when their tires are still flat while the ones in the video at the "same pressure" are wanting to pop. It is what it is but I'm glad someone besides me noticed it and said something.
@SwapBlogRU2 ай бұрын
@@MadScientist267 I feel like you might be slightly overcomplicating this. I'm pretty sure that "kilos" in the original video refers to "kg/cm2" (which the OP picked up on, with him mentioning "kilogramforce/centimeter^2"). If we were to express kg/cm2 in atmospheres (which is the measure we use for tire pressure here in Russia), then 1 kg/cm2 would equal 0,967841105354057 atm, or if we prefer bar, then it would be 0,980664999999998 bar. Again, close as pretty much makes no difference.

The weight and the speed index do not show the maximum the tyre can achieve and then when you increase them by 1 it will blow up. No. This is the maximum rating for how fast under how much weight the tyre can work all the time without increased wear and decrease performance. So it's normal to take more than what is the rating, but the tyre will wear faster and might get damaged very quickly.
