@GM Kof hard then just ship the engine in from europe, but they're not as amazing as you might think. Mostly 1.5 or 1.3l, so not much power but they are pretty reliable, courtesy of their simplicity. Around where i live a good condition 1.3l lada engine goes for as low as 30€, or you can buy the whole car for 150€.
@GlamStacheessnostalgialounge5 жыл бұрын
+GM Kof hard Trust me dude you're better off just getting a complete car. The engines are pretty small, are are adequate to pulling along the really light Lada bodies, but on a (I presume) modern pick-up? You won't be able to get the thing rolling with the larger "special variant" 1.6 engine, let alone the cheapest 1.3.

An actual I8 engine would fire a cylinder every 90 degrees of crank rotation for smoother power delivery, not a pair of cylinders every 180 degrees. Should have offset the two engines by 90 degrees instead of aligning them on TDC. Though it probably won't matter much due to how roughly everything is put together.

You can't offset the engines with 90 degrees. They vibrating pattern is periodic with 180 degrees so the vibrations would destroy the crankshaft or the whole engine

My dad used to do shit like this. He couldnt make a normal golf cart, he had to put an engine in the back and make it run off a hydraulic pump. It was about as stupid as it gets. You sat on the fluid tank which gets HOT and as hell. He mounted a home made lawn mower blade under it made from hay cutter blades and steel. The thing was unbalanced and scalped the lawn as it was mounted directly under the golf cart and not on a floating deck.

One keyway on the original engine's crank is not enough to support the drive from the front engine & won't last long before sheering it off. The hillbilly fix is to drill the ballancer/crank part line & wack in some solid pins, 3/16" drill bit shanks work well for this.
@altsa44105 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. My prediction is this setup will not even make it off the starting line without shearing the crank pulley key. Figure the accessories originally driven by the engine (water pump, alternator, etc.) required 10-15 hp to operate and that the output of this engine is somewhere around 100hp. For the same RPMs, you are looking at least at a factor of 10x torque being transmitted through the same keyway. If the original keyway design was over designed by a typical factor of 3 means that you'll need at least 3 more keys of the same dimension to distribute the forces here...

NICE IDEA - hope it turns out well
@Brock_Landers5 жыл бұрын
I think it'll multiply the horsepower and torque, as long as they can get the two engines working together and actually synchronize them, instead of one engine running the other and one engine scavenging of the other. It's not going to be an easy feat, but if they can get them both running properly and in sync with each other (AND the vibrations aren't too bad), then it should be faster in theory.
