In the late 30's there were two Voisin L12 produced. One 6 liter (200hp) and one 4,6 liter (140hp). The small one was a sedan used as a daily by Gabriel Voisin himself and the big one was a coupe sold to one of his friends in Lyon and was allegedly robbed on the train delivering it to this man. Weld their exhausts into one pipe so it actually sounds like a 12 cylinder engine.
@zachicusmaximus55515 жыл бұрын
The engines would have to be clocked so each crank was offset by 60 degrees to get the exhaust pulses to match what would come out of a 12 cyl. Even then it probably wouldn't sound exactly the same, but definitely different than a 4 cyl.

If the three engines were offset by 120 degrees of crank shaft rotation, you'd get one cylinder firing every 60 degrees for much smoother power delivery than having three cylinders firing once every 180 degrees.
@3wGaming5 жыл бұрын
Will it make it sound like a lambo too?
@MightyKauri5 жыл бұрын
my thought exactly. though that my be to much for the cranks. with them firing in-time they kinda help each other out
@teardowndan53645 жыл бұрын
@@MightyKauri If all the pistons fire 60 degrees apart, you have one that is hardly providing any torque because it is still near TDC ignition and the two others 60 and 120 degrees into the power stroke. The crank shaft should be seeing a steady 150-200% of its normal torque. With the three engines aligned, the shaft driving the transmission could be peaking at as much as 300% which I'd expect to be more likely to snap something off.

They were meant to be very affordable. Also, the 64 ( I think) horsepower this 1.3l engine produced was considered perfectly reasonable for an economy car of its time. i think they got lucky, the pulley-clutch assembly is kinda flexible but it may allow like a couple of millimeters of torsion, becoming unsustainable at hi revs, also the engines seem to be mounted on the rubber posts, this make em move a lot but also allows for some self adjustment... it will snap the pulley shaft or chew the clutch cover in like 10km :D i think a big rubber disk with edge mounted star-shaped pulleys wil do the trick... or also like 3 engine rubber posts bolted on steel disks could last some more, but these really need to be balanced and could still explode.... angle joints may be used, also wheel joints but it becomes sensibly longer

Theoretically guys, it's just a 4 litre 4 cylinder! As the 1st piston of each engine is pushing at the same time. Nevertheless, Great Video... Very entertaining! Next time, go for 240° staggered timing on the middle engine via the flex plate and 120° on the 3rd in relation to the 1st enging. Then you will TRULY have an inline 12 cylinder. Great work getting an EYEBALL central location on the flex plate to crank pully by the way... Half these yootoob hacks would had one machined...! Much love from down under.
