My Repaved Driveway 3 Years Later - Honest REVIEW!

When we lived in Connecticut, we had our gravel driveway paved by the same company that was doing the streets in our small town. We got a great deal because when they were paving our street, we asked if they could just do our driveway while they already has their equipment there at the location. After the job was completed, i asked the owner of the company(who was on site) if i should seal the driveway each year. I'll never forget what he told me. He said, sealing the driveway is not necessary and it actually will cost you so much more because after you do it ONE TIME, you'll have to do it each and every year. 15 years later, never having our driveway sealed, and it still looks brand new.

Unless they ripped the original driveway and did a correct grading and a asphalt base coat then a top coat that driveway will only last about 5 years. I don't care how many times you seal it I remembered your original video and when you said it would last 20 years and I saw them overlay the old driveway I thought this guy is getting robbed. I'm glad you put up this 3 yr later vid. because I remembered thinking I'd love to see this driveway in 3 years and its just as I suspected it would look

My sister had her asphalt driveway replaced by a company that stopped by saying they just did a job in the area and had extra asphalt and would give them a discount to use it up. Thier old driveway had cracks throughout it. In less than a year the new driveway looked as bad as their old one. The company said it was because they didn’t have anything supporting the edges. They gave them a free sealer but the cracks are still there.

6:52 you have those cracks due to crown shaped base before installing asphalt so it is thinner on middle and probbably badly prepared base, vegetation problem on asphalt itself shown on 2:53 is showing up because asphalt on those parts is too thin and overall looking at asphalt gives me conclusion mixture of asphalt is very poor with mixture of asphalt and bonding bitumen so it creates rumbling of surface and no top sealing will help with that even if you top seal it 3 times a year-it may slow it down but process of rumbling will continue, on 3:12 is visible thick bitumen paste on connection was not applied and you can do it yourself-buy canister of asphalt paving joint bitumen and pour it on connection and then add some quartz sand on top to prevent stycky effect that wa water will not enter joint and in years to come prevent what frozen watr would do in that jont,Also to prevent and slow down tearing edges and cracks of asphalt on shoulder dig out 2 feet wide and 4-5 inches of grass and replace it with gravel and then ompact it-it will give more support to shoulders and edges and you will no longer have problems with weeds since 3 times a year spraying with herbicide that gravel shoulder will do eliminate weed problems and overgroving grass and cracks on ends.

I work as a consultant for NCDOT. I inspect asphalt paving on major interstates. I see a ton of issues with your driveway. No asphalt pavement will last 20 years. If you have an email address I can explain some things I am seeing

Can people hire you for consultantion??? I never realized that their were asphalt consultants who act as quality control experts???

Looks like they laid about an inch of asphalt.If done right it should last you 15 to 20 years plus.
