Thankyou so much for this video series, my d15 lost compression the other day and I bought a d16a6 but I had no clue what I was doing. I know it's an old video series but glad it is here. I just picked up a '90 CRX nanual(Canadin spec. no silly seatbelt on the door) I would love to do this swap. The wiring looks simple enough to do, the difficuld part will be finding donor parts theses days. Thanks for posting such thorough content.

GarageFixes I use the GoPro Studio still. Lol. I haven't upgraded to a nicer computer and had been using it forever so it's what I still use for now. It's very simple and easy to use. I believe that you need to have a game plan for what you want in the video in terms of the direction and what's included or not included. I try to plan out anything before that I feel would help video because I don't want just some rambling and just talking about whatever. I understand there is a time and place for that in some videos, but in instructional videos I personally don't like listening to someone talk about all this other BS when I'm trying to learn something or fix something. It ruins the flow and purpose of it. And for gear, you don't need the baddest camera in the world. I'm using a Panasonic LUMIX G7 and I love it. I had been wanting a nice camera though and upgraded last May. Before that all my videos were shot on my GoPro 3+ Black and they still came out pretty nice. I've seen people use their camera phones and still make great videos. You need good lighting (make videos during the day), be precise on what you are showing, and be clear and to the point. Think about the shot, how does it look, and what do you want in the background. I try to cut out all the noise, and by that I mean all the stuff that can detract from your videos message. And lastly, film everything. You can edit everything out that you want but you want to make sure that you have everything that you "need" for your video. This video I actually recorded a bunch of parts over a 4 day period because it has been about 2 years since I did an MPFI swap and didn't want to forget any parts! Im subscribing to you (can't remember if I am already) and I'll leave some feedback for any future videos you release. I'd like to see what you have to offer and hopefully I can offer some decent advice!

Man your a life saver, Im looking to convert my 88 crx dx to mpfi and then obd1. everything i read has me confused and once i see what wiring im actually doing ill finally understand it. i know the one difference in the dp to mp wiring for me is gonna be the resister box since i wont need it, but everything else applies and i will be able to use a jumper harness at the ecu for obd1 and im ready. Oh btw i dont know if u remember me but i found the fender mold for my car. it was the only thing missing on the outside and it was in the spare tire hold. I am however looking for the cargo divider( part with the lock tabs) if u happen to come across one. keep up the great work man and thanks for the vids they are a big help. i tend to learn better seeing what to do than read it

These guys do not, they are a domestic shop mainly for muscle. If you have a remote tuner, then he can make adjustments on the fly. One of my friends (Bevon Campbell) dyno'd his 13 Si there and his tuner is in Florida. The hardest part is making sure your tuner is ready.

Love your channel! Can the fuel line be purchased at the store if I can’t find one? I plan on doing this on my 90 civic hatch std. Do you have any feedback on the monotech harness from eBay? Also, after the swap, would it be plug and play if I swap a d16a6 in the future. I think I’m the only car girl here. Thanks in advance.

Bravo for another SUPER interesting video! Your voice is so clear, and standard-sounding (Please do not take offense; I am just stating a fact.). Does everyone in your part of Texas sound like you? I have never been in your part of the world, so of course, my perception of the, "Texas accent," is from movies I have seen, and you sound very different from those guys.
@GarageBuiltHondas
@GarageBuiltHondas 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Burrito! Nobody really has that accent in Texas, unless you're actually from the country. City folk sound normal. I try to sound pretty monotone as I want the video to retain a more serious appeal to it. I'd like it to be relevant years from now and not just some random dude kinda showing you what you need and how to do it. If you were talking to me in person, I am never this serious sounding. Lol

This is probably the most helpful video I’ve seen going over the dpfi to mpfi conversion process. Quick question, what all would I do differently if I were doing a mini-me swap on my d15b2 block with a d16z6 head? Hey man, I love the show and I wanted to reach out and pick your brain. Is the CRX HF intake manifold the same as the Si? and the other question...I know your more into producing power but what if you wanted to go for better mileage? The CRX HF comes with a Mpfi, wouldn't it make sense to go with a Dpfi to increase fuel economy?
@GarageBuiltHondas
@GarageBuiltHondas 7 жыл бұрын
+Tango Tango It's smaller than the Si manifold. The TB opening and runners are all smaller. You couldn't put a DPFI manifold onto an HF engine. The HF requires 4 fuel injectors and also has the EGR valve on it which also aids on the better MPG's. But for fuel economy, I would stay with the DPFI setup if that's what you already have. The HF transmission with the HF engine are what make the gas mileage ideal. I've seen people use the HF trans on a DX or Si engine and the results aren't as impressive.
@ThermalCowboy
@ThermalCowboy 7 жыл бұрын
Right now I've got a bone stock 91' HF and it's my daily(42mpg mixed driving) it's doing great on mpg, once I have my own house/garage I plan on doing a swap, anyways I'm really diggin your show I've had a wagon and a sedan in the past, now I've got the Crx...I will always drive 4th gen Honda, they are just so much fun to drive!

Well... if you think about (which I would never do) factoring in the parasitic losses from the drive train (15% loss at wheels), it is actually making more then the original rated powers of horse!!! Nearly 1 whole Unicorn Power (BHP/100 at the crank) which is incredible considering the age and mileage.

Been watching your vids and subscribed since I just got a 90 civic hatch! If I plan to swap to a b series or even a k-series. Would it benefit me to do the DPFI to MPFI now or wait until I do the swap in the future along with converting to OBD1 etc. Seems like I'd have to do this twice when I do a swap in the future. Another thing. I did some testing on 2 setups on a built bottom end (12:1 comp, PG6B piston, Y7 block, and Y7 crank). I did one with a ported D16Y8 head and Y8 manifold and one with a ported Z6 head and Z6 manifold. Each head preferred the intake manifold that it came with. The Y8 head is strange and has a 'tumble' port on the intake side. My guess is that this was done for improved torque. I made the most power with the Z6 head and Manifold using a custom non-vtec cam in the Z6 head casting. Peak power was 151 Whp.

I was wondering if you could help me out. I have a 90' CRX DX I just purchased and I would like to convert it to MPFI. Well I was lucky enough to come across a 92' Integra Engine Bay harness complete for $40. The goal is to eventually swap in a B18C5 later down the road. Well my question is would I be able to just swap the pins on the ecu side inside the car and connect the Integra engine bay harness? If not why not? Thanks buddy and great videos
@GarageBuiltHondas
@GarageBuiltHondas 7 жыл бұрын
Mike Buenrostro I do not believe the Integra harness will connect to the 2 connectors which lead to the ecu. If they are a direct fit then it might work but you'll need to verify that the wires leading to the wiring connector are in the same position from the Integra engine harness to the harness of the crx. If they are the same, you could attempt it. I haven't seen done that way before though, or maybe I just haven't seen anyone document it. I'd try to find all wiring schematics first, and go from there. I know this swap can seem overwhelming but it's really not that difficult. I tried to be as accurate and helpful as possible to make it easy for all future dpfi to MPFI swaps for anyone in the future.

Hi, Jon! My next DIY project, is changing the upper/lower rad hoses, and the three hoses that go to the heater core. (1 of them is broken into 2 pieces, because there is a water valve in-between, right?) I would like to do even more hoses, but looking down into the engine bay is scaring me, so I think I will just do the big ones for now. I mean, the task of changing the hoses themselves does not seem too daunting, but there is so little room to work down there, I am scratching my head at how I am going to accomplish this. Could you be so kind as to post a vid on how to change coolant hoses on an EF, please? Plenty of vids on YT for Accords, CRVs and other Hondas, but I think you'd be the first -- and only -- guy to do one for the EF. Also, regarding coolant: let's say I change the top and bottom rad hoses now, and then a few months later, decide to change the hoses going to the heater core. When I undo only the heater core hoses, is the entire capacity of the radiator -- and whatever other components that are holding coolant at the time -- going to come gushing out? I am a complete noob, and I am only making guesses; a closed, airtight system suddenly has a hose removed. The natural assumption is that EVERYTHING is going to come leaking out. In other words, if I undo one of the hoses, will I need to replace all the coolant in the system, because it all leaked out from me having undone that one hose? Is every hose change, also a coolant change? Sorry if my wording is unclear. Cheers. BB
@GarageBuiltHondas
@GarageBuiltHondas 7 жыл бұрын
It's not difficult. The hose kit I bought had pre-cut shapes that fit the d16a6 perfect (you'll see in the finishing videos of this series) so that was a breeze. You're correct about the valve and that 2 part hose. Smartest thing to do would be drain your radiator. You can drain it into a clean container and re-use it if that's your decision. I do that all the time. No need to change the coolant entirely if it's still within its service limits. But unless you drain it at the block (19 mm drain bolt) then you will have some leaking from the hoses on the rear when you remove them, but nothing to worry about, you'll be refilling the system up again when finished. Hope that helps ease your fears of replacing them!
@baddestburrito
@baddestburrito 7 жыл бұрын
That helps. Thanks. I am still worried about how to get my hand into there, among all the other components. I guess I have no choice, but to remove any components that are in the way, and then r-install them later. If there is a way to get this done, without such removal, though, seeing it in a video would help. Since you mentioned that you will cover this later in the series, I will wait till then. Cheers!

You can, but I wanted to retain the car being obd0. For someone doing the DPFI to MPFI swap for the first time, it can be a very difficult job. Throw in converting from obd0 to obd1 and it can be a nightmare for a first timer. Now that I have my MPFI swap done, it would be a lot easier to convert to obd1 as the car is running great! Those videos will be up soon too. Lol

I'll have that info in the 3 part of these videos if you want to wait another week or so. Finishing putting the footage together. The info I am offering is for obd0 though.
