Taurus Model 65-PreLock version.I can't believe my luck when I walked into the gun shop and found this 357 Magnum gem in the used section.

Sir, you have a early Model 65, one of the 4-screw models with a 4-inch half shrouded barrel. The Model 65 is still being produced by Taurus with a full shrouded barrel now. I love the early models like yours, with those beautiful wood target grips that is no longer offered. I really appreciate this early production Model 65 video. Thanks for showing. The numbers you mentioned was part numbers that was used for putting the gun together at the factory. I collect the older Taurus handguns and yours is a late 1970's production six-gun.I got most of my older Taurus guns at local pawnshops . The prices was dirt cheap because of gun snobbery of Taurus firearms by gun magazine writers. Don't let anyone tell you different, because you have a superb six-shooter.

I"m glad you enjoyed the video.I need to do an update on it soon.I've only been able to find 1 other video on another early model Taurus 65.But it had been reblued and had work done on the grips.Mine is completely original and has the best hammer and trigger action of any revolver I have,and tha includes my S&W's and Ruger's.

Hey, we're from Fly Over Country. According to MSNBC we aren't supposed to know what things like the Cyrillic alphabet are! But - nice, nice, nice looking and shooting Taurus. Next to classic S&W revolvers, some of those old Taurus revolvers are my favorite. Good find!

BTW - shout out to Buffalo as well. I always said his channel would go great as a syndicated cable show. But there again, as the KZbin landscape changes and Hickok winds it down, Buffalo might be the new star on the horizon.

This is my first handgun. I bought mine in 1992 and it has a 3 inch barrel and blued. Very accurate. I have bought several more Taurus revolvers and 2 1911's and they all shoot great. I agree that they are as good as Smith and Wesson as I have those as well.

Thanks for the kind words. Of course that goes both ways. The way you described my channel is how I see yours. Especially your closing remarks about how it feels like you're sitting right there. I too have come to appreciate used guns. I appreciate this look at another Taurus. I've been seeing so many Taurus reviews lately that I have decided to give them more of a look than I have in the past. I've heard some real horror stories about their customer service but have never dealt with them personally. I do like that little TX22 I just bought. Maybe I will pick up another Taurus in the near future. Thanks for all you do my friend.

You are very welcome. There are so many YT channels out there that give me that "phoney" feeling.To me they just talk to hear the sound of their own voice.I can tell you enjoy doing these videos as much as I do.Us Appalachian Americans have no problem showing respect towards each other for a job well done ans 50K subbers is a job very well done.If you ever get the chance,give the 856 or 605 a try.I think you will really be pleased.I looked at a 7 round Taurus 357 magnum revolver earlier today,I might go after work on Monday and lay it away.Hope you and your family have a good weekend.

Very nice find! My first handgun was a Taurus 66 with a 3" barrel, kick myself for letting it go! I've never had a 65 but always wanted one. My brother repaired the Rosewood grips on my PT 22 and they came out great. I believe the number is part of the ser. number but its been so long since I've had an older Taurus! Great video!

This video makes me want to get out my S&W 686 4" pre-lock. I bought it new back in 1994 for $319. The first handgun I ever bought in 1985 was a new S&W 686 6" which I paid $286, I still have it. I know that revolvers are a bit outdated, but I still love them. I learned to shoot with that first S&W 686, and learned the versatility of a .357 Magnum revolver. I remember the great NYPD officer Jim Cirillo carried three S&W model 10 .38 Special revolvers in the 1970's and did very well in all of his shootouts. It's funny, now a Glock 17 with one magazine, would have just as many shots as his three S&W model 10's did back then.

Hello Jeff.Revolvers may be outdated but I feel most,especially the older ones are more reliable than semi autos.But most these days will choose the semi auto because of capacity.This pre lock 65 I found out yesterday is much older than I thought,that info will be in a video I'm doing tomorrow evening.Also I'm doing the Ruger American 22 magnum rifle this weekend,,will send you a shout out.
@jeffdonner19125 жыл бұрын
@@garageguy879 My first choice for defense would be a Glock 23/22 or 19/17. But if all I had was a 4" .357 Magnum revolver, S&W 686 or Ruger GP-100, I would be OK as long as I could have about three or four speed loaders. .357 Magnum is a very effective round, and you can plink with .38 Specials.

Hi @garageguy879, I'm writing from Italy. I just bought 3 day ago, as my first revolver, an used Taurus mod. 65 very similar to yours. Same 4 inch barrel (semi-shrouded) and everything, but in matte black finish. I am a little confused by the fact that on the left side of my revolver there's a laser engraving of this code: IT2019. My guess is that this indicates the importation year and the nation (IT for Italy). Gun is made in Brazil and has no lock, a different cylinder release button, (the one of new mod 65 with the shrouded barrel). Gun appears to be almost new and doesn't show any sign of aging or scratches, mirror bore. It has also the rubber grip of the new guns, with the Taurus logo. My educated guess is that Taurus is assembling cheap mod. 65 guns from his spare parts stock (in my case, 4 inch barrel) or is reconditioning older guns, swapping wooden grips for the rubber ones and finishing the gun in matte black. I bought the gun for 200 $, with the full box and booklet plus a nylon holster. Very excited to try it at the range, though.
@garageguy8793 жыл бұрын
Hello from Virginia.There are some firearm companies,including Taurus that will use unused parts to assemble a fully functional handgun.There is no reason that it will not function properly.I believe that your educated guess is correct.Rubber grips are cheaper to use but they still work well.These are very accurate firearms and I hope you enjoy your shooting time with this fine revolver as I have with mine.

Thank you for watching.I would recommend the 856 over the 85,no internal lock and an extra round.But if you want a 357 snubbie,then go ahead and get the 605.
@MultiBaldEagle2 жыл бұрын
The early Taurus 65s with the half under lug and the walnut target stocks are not easy to come by. Especially in good condition. And a lot of "brand snobs" will tell you there's nothing as good as a Smith revolver or a Glock or Sig auto pistol. Don't you believe it. Taurus, Rossi and Ruger made some fine revolvers. And I'd give my left testicle to find an early blued 65 Taurus with wood target grips in good condition. Let the snobs think what they want.
