It won't be life-changing or anything if you've been training for a few years and know how to put a program together, but it does make things a lot simpler. You just have to weigh the convenience of having everything laid out for you vs the subscription cost, but it is a good app.
@greghill1584 ай бұрын
I like it quite a bit. I wish it had more prescribed programming like Juggernaut, but less focused on powerlifting specific lifts. That said, the workout builder works pretty great for what it is, and there's a bunch of recommended templates to start from. It generally does a good job of autoregulating your volume for you based on your feedback. Being able to specify which muscles you want to grow and which you want to just maintain is a great addition, so it doesn't ramp up volume on every single lift. Main downsides for me are no rest timer and not carrying over weight/rep information between mesos automatically. That, and having to come up with meso names each time.

At what point do we distinguish between a home gym and having an actual commercial gym that happens to be at home? lol
@jonpageable4 ай бұрын
It’s not a home gym, it’s a home in his gym 😂

Its a private gym in his home@@boossersgarage3239
@kidbrown20104 ай бұрын
If there is no commercial public use, then it's not a commercial gym. The term I've heard used, and I think Mike uses it himself in the video, is 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, which would be the accurate label. This is not a home gym because it's not inside his home. It's inside his property, but in a separate building.
@salvadorromero97124 ай бұрын
In the industry parlance a commercial gym is a dedicated facility where members of the public can pay to use the gym services themselves; this would distinguish it from a private client training facility, parks department or corporate gym, athletic club, team weight room or student gym, etc. I go to a commercial gym--a perfectly good one where several IFBB Pros train--that is smaller and is much inferiorly equipped than Dr. Mike's gym. The thing that distinguishes this from a pure "home gym" (Mark Wahlberg's is the same size and expense, though this is an extreme) is that it is in fact the shooting studio for the Renaissance Periodization web video production business. (The IRS knows exactly what percentage it is a home gym versus a shooting studio.) Someone in the replies apparently thinks that garage gyms are only a species of home gym in attached, not detached garages, but I have certainly never heard that distinction made before. I am giving you the correct one.

One thing Dr. Mike has said multiple times is that if a movement takes too much set up, he just won’t do it, so the selecterize machines are more convenient for him

Coop, Dr Mike turned me onto the cambered bar you briefly show in this video. He recommends that style instead of the kinds with parallel grip you’ve often discussed. It makes sense to me because Dr Mike is purely training for bodybuilding and wants a deeper chest stretch and doesn’t care about bar versatility. Interested in your thoughts on the comparison between the two kinds of cambered bar. I’m shocked there aren’t more options of that type of cambered bar, I have the one from Elite FTS and love it
@wredmatic4 ай бұрын
I have the Titan cambered swiss bar and I honestly wish I could get more of a stretch 🫤 I got it because I wanted a neutral grip for my shoulders, but I'm starting to wonder if it even makes a difference 🤷
@Davidtresmoore4 ай бұрын
@@wredmatic yeah for the stretch, the much cheaper cambered bar I have seems to be superior. Strength athletes seem to like the cambered bar with the parallel grip, but I feel like the majority of people who want to look better would be better served going super cheap Elite FTS cambered bar

Just bought a new house. Half the basement is going to be a gym. So many people refer to the belt squat as the best piece of leg equipment you can get. I’ve never used one and am looking for answers on what people think the best one is. Any suggestions?
@gur2624 ай бұрын
Tried out at the gym once. Didn't break my preference for legpress. But. I basically only did legpress for the longest time. Old habits. I can't squat. Bar hurts flexibility sucks. Last time I tried with a safety squat bar I had knee pain for weeks. Anyway. I liked it. I could squat freely just like I can squat with bodyweight. But the belt didn't feel great on my hips. I would say just find a gym get a daypass and try out. Sounds like you got lots of space but if there's some limits I'd keep in mind that a hacksquat might be more compact. Then again you could quickly go from squats to deadlifts on the Belt squat or even use it for biceps curls I think.
