How to replace Dodge Avenger Rear Brakes, they needed help

Changing the rear brake rotors on the Dodge Avenger is not hard but the upper brake caliper pin is tricky. You will find that you can't get the caliper pin out, without it hitting the brake hose. So what are you suppose to do? Well the best thing is to leave the pin in, and flip the caliper up when you remove the bottom pin. You can then remove the brake caliper with the upper pin still intact. If you do this, it is still very important for you to clean the pin, and the bore.

Thanks for the video! Did my front ones easily but the rear rotors were STUCK. Even hammering off gave me problems and then had to knock them back on as well and prayed I didn't mess anything up in the process but after I finished and tested around the neighborhood I didn't notice any issues. Glad to have saved 4-600 bucks too.

Direct hammer blows to the rotor can cause damage to the hub bearing (causing it to fail early)

You are right it can if you go berserk on it. Usually if you don't do to hard its ok. I have never had a problem. Now if they are really stuck on then sometimes you can use bolts to push them out (that is the preferred way) but sometimes you just have no choice brother. Good comment, and you are right. Yup, and down in the brake area I think the debris flying would chip it all up anyway. I had a friend who was using his car for highway only and most of the paint was stripped off the front bumper, looked like it was sand blasted.

no one seems to think using the brake bleeder is necessary when compressing the piston?

Hey there, you don't have to bleed the brakes if you are just pushing the piston in. But if you have time..... A good practice is to open the bleeder and then push the piston back in, then let the fluid start coming out again. Most dirty fluid is in the caliper, so you are getting rid of the dirty fluid. If you do this don't forget to top up your master cylinder as it will be low.

You may, rear drums are super rare, I don't think I have ever seen one with rear drums. You got a collector car there !!!

Hey there and thanks for the comment, its ceramic brake caliper pin lubrication. The one I was using was by permatex. amzn.to/3BRMpny Its great for not washing off, and can be used for a variety of stuff. I do find that on the caliper pins it seems to dry out faster than some of the other brands I have tried.
