Hi Chris, thx for your tips, two days ago had to paint my car with silver metallic in my garage, used wet bed with same product following your steps, 3 base coats , first one wet with blender, after 10 minutes, second coat wet , and later last a drop coat 18 psi and moved the gun away, job came without issues regarding coverage, again thanks for your videos.

Hi Chris, beautiful job on this one the hood looks amazing with a perfect OEM peel finish👌as always a very detailed explanation of what you are doing at each step. I remember my first silver and as you pointed out on the hood I could see stripes in the wet basecoat which concerned me at the time but I know these days it's going to be fine once it's flashed off. Thanks for doing this Chris you are a pure inspiration to others👏🙏👍John UK

Hi Chris, I really enjoyed the video and learned a lot. Seems like you were fighting dust particles more than usual but those are the challenges in an open garage which most DIY's will be facing. By you showing the process of stopping fixing and moving on it helps a lot. This time of year it's tough as there is so much stuff in the air from leaf particles, dust from fields and dead grass. Take a black glass stove top and clean it. Watch the dust land back on it :). The big issue for me is the fiberglass insulation up on the roof rafters. I will do what you have done. It looks like you have plastic up above where you paint. Cheap way to attract and hold fiberglass particles. GOOD ONE!

Great video, i love that you show every issue and mistake and how to deal with it. i have a stupid question, so you paint your first coat of base or clear right, then while that's flashing off what happens to the left over paint sitting in the gun? is that still ok to be used for the second coat or is it thrown out and a new batch mixed for each coat?

Reducer for the RTS binder, that's probably why I got a run 😅 I would really appreciate a video about how you clean your guns
@travisjackson692311 ай бұрын
My tip would be if you do 3 coats of base start the first from front to back, second across the hood and third coat front to back again. Ending the same direction you spray the top of the fender. Another thing you can do is drop coat on the last coat just a touch to prevent mottling but still a smooth finish. If blending, use a step warmer on reducer.

I'm using that color blender to mix color flip pearls on a couple jobs. I treat it more like cheap basecoat and do a 2 to 1 mix. But I am using the turbine and a 1.0 to spray it.Way too thick. I will end up with bad texture otherwise. I don't mind, because diluting the blender stretches the product so it lasts longer...

WHy does it look like you spray very fast on the fender of the jeep for clear, but on the hood it seems like you go alot slower? Thanks!
@GarageNoise7 ай бұрын
I guess I do that because a hood can hold more material so I can slow down and hit it a bit harder. If you do that on a side panel it's more likely to run.

I always feel the grit of sealer, and think, that's going to soak up the paint, not matching sanded area? Just an opinion. I mostly watching the texture, weather it's base, clear, latex in a home spraying. All about consistence for a flat uniform finish. I leave some gun cleaner in the gun, between sprays and for storage. Is this a bad idea?
@johannvanderschyff7735 Жыл бұрын
If using a lvlp gun, why do you use high psi? You use 25psi and 30 to 35 psi. Is that normal for single stage or is that for base coat and clear coat only. Thank you

Chris, Can one clear an entire car with the FC120? Difference between spot panel clear vs full car clear?
@GarageNoise Жыл бұрын
Finish 1 makes a over all clearcoat the fc720 the difference in a overall and a spot panel fc710 is that it cure a bit slower in order for you to paint a full vehicle and still have good flow while painting. Appreciate your comment and support!

It appears you are using 3M PPS 1.0 series filter in blue so I assume you are using water borne paint.I believe if it were solvent paint you would be using white filters. Question: If you are using solvent paint but only have blue filters is this a problem or should one just remove the blue filter screen and then just use normal papers filters? Thanks.
@GarageNoise4 ай бұрын
I am using solvent paint. I don't know why I'm using the blue. Is one for solvant and one for waterborne? I know the micron filter size is different.
@wayneduchscherer46764 ай бұрын
@@GarageNoise Yes the blue is 125 micron for water born and the white is 200 microns for solvent.This applies both for 3M original 1.0 Legacy and the new 2.0 series cups and liners. Does not seem to causing you any issues but some say to cut the blue filter out and just use old paper filters...

I’m painting my car in a non-original complex silver (GM Silver flare metallic). Can you please confirm I have my steps down? 1. Primer sealer 2. Do I need clear base? 3. Base coat 4. Clear Since I’m painting the whole car, do I need to/should I remove the panels from the car or just do it all in one go on the car to maintain uniformity?
@GarageNoise6 күн бұрын
I would make sure you're using a slow reducer. Because it's silver, you want to make sure you prep it out with a 600 grit. Sandpaper. You won't necessarily need a clear base if you're painting the entire vehicle, and with the temperatures as cool as they are. But you definitely want to seal it. Apply your base coat, apply your clear coat. If you have any more questions, let me know
@GarageNoise6 күн бұрын
PS: I would paint the vehicle all together. You don't necessarily need to remove the panels and it may not be in your best interest

@@GarageNoise I’m using/already bought a medium reducer (65-75*). I can warm up my garage to that temp range. Am I ok to still use it or should I try and get a slow reducer still? I am willing to go get slow if it really makes a difference. My garage is dirty from a lot of sanding so I’m worried about dust nibs from a slow reducer but I know I can always nib them out. I am planning to use the cheap $16 HF HVLP gun to lay the primer sealer down. I have an ANI compact to lay the base/clear since I only have a 27gal (5.1cfm) compressor. Any objections to the HF gun with the primer/sealer?
@icanturn68445 күн бұрын
@@GarageNoise in regard to the video you linked. My paint is actually a 2 stage. The pearl is in the base so it should lay out like a normal paint job.

I didn't really have any hassle. Unless you mean the solvent fisheyes. That is just something that can happen and it happens with sealer too. I'm not apposed to using sealer just sometimes it's not necessary. Appreciate the comment and support!
@jhenson5168 Жыл бұрын
After primer, we wet sand to 800, then grey scuff pad with presto scuff stuff. Then sealer, especially with silver we soft pad 1000 on the sealer, alcohol then wipe, tack rag, then spray 2 coats of base then drop coat. Sealer isn’t always necessary, but using the correct sealer will make silver base match near perfectly.
