How To Replace A Wiper Blade Rubber refil insert

In this video I demonstrate how to remover a wiper blade a replace the wiper rubber. This is a much cheaper alternative to replacing the whole wiper blade and the only tools you really need is a pair of pliers/cutters.
You can pick up a set of replacement rubbers cheap online. This is a really easy repair which any DIYer can easily do.

It is a bit easier to simply cut the rubber holding the wiper in and slide out the rubber. Cutting them out is a good idea as you won''t be using them again. This way it unnecessary to expand the metal. simply slide in the unit and the new rubber will click into place. That is why one end is shaped like an arrow. To take off use your pliers to push them to together to allow them to slide past the holding point.

Do NOT bending away (ruining) the small brackets. (3:20) Just pinch the end of the SSteel strips to slide them along the bracket.

Insane this, you do not need to damage your car to get these off, damage the disposable rubber, either stretch it out and off of the steel runners or cut it, assuming they're not the clip type anyway 😂

Where can I purchase the rubber inserts? Can't find at auto shops nearby in Chicago area. RockAuto will sell them for about $2.00, but adds $10.00+ for shipping. Is China the only low cost source?

Hey, search for wiper blade rubber refill on Amazon, won’t be as cheap as $2 but probably best you’ll get unless you’re willing to wait for it from china

My replacement rubbers are meant to fit my wiper blades and the fitting is greatly superior. The grips at each end are plastic and do not need to be opened or squeezed. This is not a problem because the rubbers themselves and the steel springs have special indentations at one end to hold the rubber firmly in place. This means that the spring blades have to be held in the rubbers before they are fitted. This was comparatively easy and I held the spring steel inserts loosely in place with cable clips before fitting. However, there are no instructions to say which end of the blade is preferable to to fit the rubber on the blade as this retaining method is only found at one end of the rubber to allow the other end to be trimmed. So which end is best to retain the rubber? The end at the top that performs the long sweep or the end at the bottom with the shorter travel? Or is this important? The way that you fitted the rubber and the lack of any instructions with my rubbers suggest not.
