All my AR's run steel cased ammo. My R gun that used to have was the worst though. Constant jams and cases stuck in the chamber followed by my Ruger AR556. Since I've replaced the Ruger barrel and sold the R gun, I have AR's that all run steel cased ammo. They should since I've purchased thousands and thousands of rounds of steel cased ammo over the past few years. I still cry when I think back to the late winter of 2019 when I bought 3k rounds of Barnaul 62 sp from SGAMMO as an exclusive for $800 shipped. Can't even touch a thousand rounds for half that now unless it's Tulammo on sale and it's still $380-430 shipped, let alone 3k rounds. fuck Joe Biden, fuck the rona beer, fuck BLM, fuck the leftist, for rioting and trying to implement gun control leading to this ammo shortage. 10:46 They cryogen treat the barrel to fully relieve internal stresses and they lap the barrel after chrome lining it. That removes the harmonic irregularities left by the hammer forging (which often reduces accuracy) and removes the surface irregularities which ordinarily reduce accuracy with chrome lined barrels. It's not magic, it's gunsmithing: it just happens to be the case that both processes are high investment methodologies (one in equipment, the other in time) which make them cost prohibitive. Which is one of the big reasons why KAC rifles cost as much as a kidney.

Lol "Double taps" were just a training thing that kind of became a "tactic" on accident but with 556 its just not very realistic. Really 3-5 rounds are what it typically is gonna take with the pea shooter all 556 rifles are. 12:40 This is an inherent fault with the AR-15, a longer bolt travel behind the magazine would eliminate this issue. If you look at a lot of other rifles, amongst them the AK, you will note that there is a lot of bolt travel behind the magazine where as the AR bottoms out almost immediately behind the magazine. This means that other guns can function with different power ammunition without bottoming out, ie. being over gassed, or short stroking, ie. being undergassed, while the AR can handle a more narrow power range.

I've always wondered where KAC got their HF barrels . I know back in the day they used Diemaco barrel blanks .. Centurion is my favorite HF barrels . Love their MIDWEIGHT HF. They use tapered bore for insane accuracy.. I agree totally LMT , KAC are some of the best out there . LMT , KAC , Centurion and Colt / C.C. / Diemaco are my personal favorites ..
@jackbauer41863 жыл бұрын
From all accounts, Diemaco makes the best CHF Barrels ever for an M4 platform. I used to think LMT made Knights barrels, but the MARS system uses button cut/chrome lined version. They also aren't as accurate as the Sr15. Supposedly LMT makes the Knights BCGs, which are almost identical to each other.
@seanwhite3043 жыл бұрын
@@jackbauer4186 LMT used to make a lot of KAC parts . Unknown how many parts they still make . Yeah I've always loved Diemaco and FN HF barrels . Theres only handful of HF barrel machines for Carbine / Rifles in North America . I wouldn't be surprised if it was FN or Colt Canada but I honestly have no clue.
@jackbauer41863 жыл бұрын
@@seanwhite304 I know FN makes a lot of higher end companies' barrels because they have so mich capacity and machining capabities for CHF barrels. They make Spikes and a few other brands' barrels, but I always heard they weren't that accurate (especially the sub-moa that KAC barrels are getting), but the will last forever, which is why the military likes them. I know DD supposedly makes their own HF barrels, which are quite accurate, and supposedly Geissele makes their own as well (although I have my reservations that DD may be making them). Bcm may have their own HF machines as well. Someone is also probably making LWRC nitrided HF barrels.
@seanwhite3043 жыл бұрын
@@jackbauer4186 FN makes HF barrels for Noveske , Hodge , BCM , Centurion , Spikes , PSA and quite a few others. Centurion HF barrels are insanely accurate due to tapered bore design. I only have experience with FN and DD HF Barrels . I've heard as you stated Geissele makes their own HF barrels but I have not seen or used one yet . Ruger has been making HF barrels for long time as well . I'm also pretty sure LWRCI makee Nicor / Nitride HF barrels too . I honestly did not know Geissele HF barrels were Nitride until recently. I've personally seen SUB MOA accuracy with Centurion , Hodge , and DD MK12 HF barrels . I'm sure theres others . I used to own Legacy Model KAC 14.5 Upper that used Diemaco Barrel Blanks . That gun was not SUB MOA at all but it didn't need to be . I've only seen online how insanely accurate the newer KAC barrels are . I'd freaking love to own KAC SR16 11.5" Secret Service Upper . They had them for sale year or two ago and I missed out .

Colt aways used different vendors for parts and pretty much everthing in a Colt was milspec. Ironically many a Colt barrel was made by Green Mountain and they all shot fairly well. You don't need a HF barrel to shoot well. In fact, most match barrels are cut or button rifled. I happen to have an AR I built with a NOS USGI FN M16a2 barrel and it approaches .5moa w good handloads rested gently on sandbags.

My ethos for SHTF was to only get what I can carry on foot and what would have the most widely common ammo. I’ve bought a Glock 9mm pistol (I’m sure there’s haters and fan boys alike…my purchase was based on the 9mm round being insanely common and glock having a ton of tested work and price). I’ve bought a 590a1 12g (in whichever form my inner tinkerer is for that day. Pistol grip, talon grip, 6 position.damn pirate gun haha But now that I’m looking for a star…head of the class rifle, you got me stuck. I’m definitely going with an ar-15 5.56x45 nato rifling…I was into the DDM4V7 til you talked about all the gases. But KAC would go against my ethos of “easy ammo”. I can’t afford, nor would I be able to scavenge mil-spec ammo to run it all the time. It’s awesome if you are military and that’s what’s given toya but in a shtf scenario you find a starved out, passed human with a backpack full of various 5.56 and 2.23 ammo…I’d like to be able to use that ammo if necessary. Someone who read all this bs I type to let me know which brand rifle has the resume of these KAC’s (reliability is #1 on defense weapon purchases.) while being able to fire a spitball if I stick it in? I guess blowback gases etc will be as mitigated as much as possible (SureFire RC2) and just have to be a reality in my life?

In my opinion, the SR15 is the finest DI rifle made today. The gas block, not drilled and pinned, is held in by a mini receiver extension nut that is torqued down. The gas tube comes out of the barrel, not at 90 degrees, but at an angle to prevent gas tube erosion. The slightly longer than mid length gas system increases dwell time just a little. The straight gas tube, for decreased tube wear, is held in by threaded castle nuts that tightens down and prevent gas leakage. This overall makes for precise gas control, and in my opinion the smoothest shooting AR on the market. Lastly the E3 bolt design is an improvement from previous bolts with less chance of failure due to rounded lugs, smaller holes drilled to mitigate failure at a weak points, and a lobster tailed dual spring extractor. The AR15, which in my opinion is the best battle rifle in the world, has been taken to new levels of perfection by Knights Armament in the SR15.

There's a reason world leaders fly to the US for treatment when they're seriously ill. It also isn't more expensive, you just don't notice how much you're paying in Canada through your taxes. Here, if you're actually poor, you're covered by either medicare or Medicaid, and most hospitals (in my state at least) will wave your fees if you make less than double the poverty line. I think next they should improve other aspects like semi ambi lower to a true ambi lower much like the newer PWS lowers whose bolt catch/release and mag release are mirrored on either side. The mk2 reciever on the BCM is a nice touch moving the forward assist up closer to the bolt making more room for the hands to manipulate the charging handle and of course have a ambi charging handle. Raptor radians are nice but I like the newest BCM 4x4. It's pretty low profile for an ambi.

At 14:00 you have one string connecting to your sling. It looks like the string has freedom to move a little bit, does it not ever touch the barrel after firing and melt? Love the vids man keep it up

Have you ever looked into 36/300 zero? It's basically perfect... All of your shots from 36-300yds are within a shot group the size of a big softball.
@paralyzdtheory3 жыл бұрын
Kinda, it is a really good zero, but its more like 6-8" size and not softball size

I’ve never known somebody that ran a 36/300 that cared enough to confirm their zero at 300
@johndaniels52263 жыл бұрын
I ran a 36 yard zero for awhile and the point of impact is really high at 100 yards, easily 6-8 inches high, on a target the size of printer paper, the shots are off the paper high. This is unacceptable to me, i now run the usual 50-200 zero which is much flatter. Plus I can’t see that far anyway to justify taking a 300 yard shot with a red dot.

Is there any chance you'd review a budget rifle like the M&P 15? I know it's not very "Gucci," but a hell of a lot of people are using them, and I think it would be interesting to hear your honest thoughts on performance out of the box and potential upgrades.

Everyone has an m&p, so many reviews already, it would probably go something like m&p gets the job done great performance, especially for the price. extremely reputable manufacturer but if you dont train youll suck just as much as you would w anything else lol

M&Ps are made better with better rifling and very accurate compared to most of the production rifles and barrels out there….I am a gunsmith and competitive shooter, absolutely great rifles

I've always thought opening a gas port was poor practice. A lighter (or heavier) buffer/ spring, and bolt carrier Tuned to the gas system is better.
@DVRKSHVYVN3 жыл бұрын
buffer/spring is a bandaid solution, but arguably a better solution than a permanent opened up gas port.
@toddk13773 жыл бұрын
Depends on the set up and other variables. If you want to run steel and brasses cased with better results or suppressed/unsuppressed, one will benefit more so with an adjustable gas block. I will only change the buffer weight if that AR I have does not have an adjustable gas block and it's over gassed to begin with. However, if your AR is over gassed, adding heavier buffers may seem to tame it, but your gun is still over gassed and will cause more wear on the BCG than a properly gassed AR. All this mainly pertains to a DI system. I don't have or can say with confidence how this may or.may not affect a piston driven system. This also pertains to any AR (5.56) that has a carbine gas system and/or shorter barrels. I have never seen an eighteen or twenty inch barrel with a rifle length gas system that was over gassed to need an adjustments or changes on it's own. Only time I ever see a guy run an adjustable gas block on one of these is if they run it suppressed and it's typically not a target or range gun or a fighting rifle, but more so for hunting. So take it for what it's worth.

@@toddk1377 heavy spring with an h2 without adjustable gas block is my go to on most set ups. If your suppressed i go adjustable gas block
@toddk13773 жыл бұрын
@@Hustler_state I have a few set up like that. The heavier buffer does help tame it when it's over gassed, especially to make it flatter shooting for faster follow up shots. I think it's just when there's certain barrels with certain gas lengths, it's so over gassed that it needs to have an adjustable gas block or was intended to be used with an adjustable gas block. For set ups like you mentioned and like many of us have, I think it's just fine, any extra wear and tear is going to be rather minimal anyways. The worst is having to deal with a barrel when outfitted on a rifle/pistol is when they are under gassed and enough so it doesn't properly cycle. That's the only time I would ever say it's a good idea to get the gas port enlarged, but I'd recommend a gunsmith to do it so it's done right and not bored out too big and now you have a whole different host of problems.
