I work in emergency medicine and I’ve seen a fair amount of gun shot wounds. Most of them are fmj from small calibers (25 acp, 22lr, 380). Those patients tend to live unless it’s to the heart, a major blood vessel, or brain stem. The patients I’ve seen with 9mm hollow points don’t live if the patient is shot in the trunk (chest or stomach). Most of the time (if not all of the time) quality hollow points pass all the way through. I personally carry Hornady critical duty because I’ve seen what it does..
@pablog48522 жыл бұрын
so you work in emergency medicine and you have seen that the small calibers still stop and put people in the hospital yet you choose to go with a caliber that has a good chance of killing someone, for what? why is the goal always to kill? and you work in medicine where your job is to save lives. 10:35 New Jersey, in their INFINITE firearms wisdom, has banned JHPs for carry/self defense. So, subjects of that state have to either carry plain ball FMJ ammo, something gimmicky like Extreme Defender or Glaser Safety Slugs or CorBon Pow'r Ball, something frangible and hope it breaks up after penetrating organs, or (preferably above ALL aforementioned options) something like Federal's EFMJ which is basically a bullet that has a lead base, a rubber nose, and a very thick copper jacket that covers over all of it. It looks and feels and shoots exactly like a FMJ bullet, but when it hits something that soft copper jacket collapses into the squishy rubber nose section and squashes it flat as a pancake against the lead base section so it mushrooms and sorta achieves the same JHP expansion effect. It's not the best, but it works better than plain ball. I just love how Federal created the EFMJ. It's a humongous middle finger and FUCK YOU to the asinine legislators who brew up such ridiculous bullshit as that.

Hey bud, South Jersey here and you are mostly correct on that. We're allowed to use whatever ammo we like for self defense as long as it's in your home or on your property. All our lgs carry them. As far as a ccw, only retired LE and corrections can carry, literally no one else is given a ccw permit. That being said, most of my friends and a number of family are LE here and whether they can or not, they all carry jhp off duty. At the end of the day, this state absolutely despises citizens even owning firearms. They care more about criminals and people who aren't supposed to be here. Stay safe bud 👍

Our whole system here needs to be totally replaced for Jersey to ever change. For our 2nd rights as well as everything else, I'm leaving next year. I carry Hornady critical duty +p in .45 for my bear gun and Hornady critical defense standard pressure in 9 for my concealed carry and home defense guns. Recently an instance said that many other calibers freely available (including the 9x21) have basically the same ballistic capabilities of 9x19, and that criminals still managed to acquire 9x19 through illegal channels, so the only people hit by restriction were lawful gun owners, so the restriction was repealed and now 9x19 is commercially available, opening a whole new market

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:35 The video explores the effectiveness of 9mm ammunition and challenges the belief that .45 caliber is the only effective caliber for self-defense. 01:46 The video briefly promotes the mobile game "Raid: Shadow Legends" as a sponsor. 02:42 The video discusses testing different 9mm rounds, including military-grade M882, Hornady Critical Defense, Speer Gold Dot, Federal HST, and Norma MHP. 07:42 M882 ball ammo showed over-penetration through a ballistic dummy's body. 11:40 Hornady Critical Defense demonstrated good expansion in the ballistic gelatin and stopped in the dummy's body. 15:49 Speer Gold Dot exhibited significant expansion and good performance, penetrating through the dummy's body. 23:03 Federal HST showcased excellent expansion, fragmentation, and lethal results, including sternum and rib fractures. 25:43 Norma MHP showed deflection and fragmentation, did not exit the ballistic dummy. 26:33 The chest shot with Norma MHP resulted in significant expansion and potential exit of the entire round. 27:49 The video concludes that while 9mm ammunition can be effective, the key factor is training for accurate shots. 28:17 A Desert Eagle .50 Action Express with a 300-grain round from Hornady is tested, but it still exits the target. 29:11 The importance of training in using firearms is emphasized, with mentions of training centers like Bear Solutions and Haley Strategic. When I first got into firearms I bought the identical gun to what the department that I work for issues and uses. A Gen 3 (at the time) Glock 22. For my self defense ammo I started out using Federal Premium Hydrashok rounds. But then as I started buying more firearms and began doing independent testing I switched to Speer Gold Dot and Federal Premium HST rounds. With the testing that I did from multiple calibers, firearms, shot distances, barrier penetration, and everything else that I could simulate real life scenarios, I found that the Speer Gold Dot and Federal Premium ammo both performed virtually identical in every test, caliber and so on. I also discovered that they had the best results over every other JHP round that I tested. And there were a lot, in multiple firearms, barrel lengths, calibers, test mediums and so on. But then, I started testing Underwood Extreme Defender ammo and I was completely blown away (no pun intended) by the results in every caliber, firearms, barrel length and test medium. That ammo out performed every single other ammo in every test, caliber, barrel length, firearm, distance and test medium. As a result of that, the Underwood Extreme Defender ammo is all that I will use now. I still train with and buy Speer Gold Dot ammo and Federal Premium HST ammo because 2 neighboring agencies to the one that I work at use those specific brands of ammo. The County uses the Speer Gold Dot ammo and the city uses the Federal Premium ammo. There is s large pig farm about an hour to an hour and a half from where I live. The farmer is a good dude. Every now and then he will have a pig get injured or sick and it has to be put down. On a few occasions where the pigs could not be harvested we used them as our test mediums after they were humanely killed. We then x-rayed the results and could see how different rounds effect a body that yields very similar results to that of a human.

@J. R.; just went to the underwood site to check that round. I think I'll pass. My reasoning is that some jackass DA is going to prosecute a well intentioned, otherwise innocent, user who has to shoot someone who is Muslim, Asian, etc basing their accusations on the " holy cross" shape of the bullet. They could accuse the shooter of being some kind of egomanical " born again Crusader" who chose that particular bullet " because it is a symbol of Christian Imperialism" yadda yadda yadda .. I've been on two juries , one an abuse case, and the other a capital murder charge.. Prosecutors who don't have a solid case and face an otherwise normal, every day working man, defendant will use any dirty trick in the book to jack up the facts in their favor. In the capital murder case , the judge instructed us to disregard remarks of the prosecuting attorney twice because she was clearly operating in another reality, fabricating new abilities for .38 LWSC. I've read a lot of Massad Ayoobs books. In many cases he repeatedly cautions people to not use gimmick ammo just for those reasons . It does look like an interesting round, but I think I'll take my chances using a good performing conventional round.

You would think people would survive 9mm gut shots but they typically wont survive because of the infection and the intestines with hollow points will have so many tiny holes it's nearly impossible to find them all and surgically fix them and even if you can the infection spreads to fast. It's very difficult to survive. Long shots nearly instant death from a 9mm hollow point with fmj you have a fairly good shot at surviving. If you reach the hospital quickly.

The M203 will be primarily loaded up with inert rounds for close range and the M82 is loaded up with spotter rounds to touch someone a bit further, or to disregard body armor.

The bad guy ducks hehind a corner or door frame as you are shooting? These are things you will incounter in the home. Again, the test should include over pen on the torsos also. Does the bullet pass though the torso and the drywall behind it? How far?
@SharkByteOfficial3 жыл бұрын
@@cnutter1984 since the video you want probably wont get made... heres a hint. Most of these hollowpoint 9mm cartridges will go thru the walls clean but get clogged up as before they enter the torso causing most of them to act like ball ammo to most degree. Some will expand but obviously that is up to random chance. If a bad guy were to duck behind a wall he'd still be very dead assuming you knew where to aim. The distance of overpenetration can't be tested either because the spacing in every home is different and energy is lost significantly the more it penetrates and travels. Generally a 9mm has the energy to pass through 3 or 4 walls assuming it may hit a wooden beam here or there. This is why 12g buckshot #04 is the ideal by far for home defense.

What they were saying in the beginning of the video is that the dummy gel is not quite as dense, as thick (most Americans are fat or else muscular) nor does it have clothes on, so they would expect bullets to pass thru the dummy that otherwise wouldn’t pass thru a real person in clothes. So because the bullets did not pass thru, they’re assuming in a real person, with clothes on, thicker, and higher density there would be under penetration.

I love Norma’s target ammo. Cheap and accurate. However, I would stay away from their MHP rounds for defense. I’ve seen multiple videos of these rounds not expanding after hitting Ballistic Gel with Fabric in front of it. The fabric would clog the bullet’s cavity and keep it from expanding. Unless the guy attacking me is completely naked, I’ll keep my firearm loaded with Federal HST +P ammunition

This has been a great vid on different ammo and a torso and I wouldn't want to be hit with either round. The question in the Prelude about missing a target: The only time that I can remember that I've missed a whole Able, Baker, or Charlie target was when I was initially zeroing in my iron-sighted M16-A2 in Marksmanship training at MCRD Parris Island in '87. After then I've allways at least hit paper/objects - except if the pistol or rifle sights were WAY off. The lesson: Good basics take you a looong way...and to this day I don't use optics on any firearms. I will be getting some optics for low-light situations though. Peace to all - 'til it's time for the other thing because of some belligerents.

I wouldn’t say Hornady is under powered since you don’t really want HPs to over penetrate anyway. But it would be interesting to see the Hornady against a heavy jacket, or any of the rounds for the matter. See how well they punch through the Jacket and into the dummy

From what limited knowledge I have, what usually happens with hollow point w/o a polymer tip is after going through a barrier, like dry wall, glass, or clothing, the tip gets clogged and either has limited or no expansion. If the round has a polymer tip then the dry wall or glass, clothing wouldn't had enough resistance to do this, could cause the tip to prematurely expand the round.

That's why I carry Speer Gold Dot 124 grain +P in my 75B. It really doesn't have that much more recoil, as it's pressure isn't too deep into what we would call +P pressures. Please do a test on the new M1152 ball ammunition used for the M17 from Winchester. I'm very curious how it performs being a flat nosed round. That's sitting just under 40,000 PSI.

I did some 9mm, 5.56x45mm, and 7.62x51mm vs human torsos back in the day. Didn't have a gel dummy. Only one of those has stopped and dropped them instantly. Wasn't 9mm. However, it will keal.

Depends on where you hit...
@mattmarzula3 жыл бұрын
@@F3EDER True enough but, you can't hit everyone in the heart on the move. Especially at night. I'll contend with your point by typing that it depends on a lot more than shot placement. While that is the most critical factor, some people are definitely more motivated than others. Whether it's religious fanaticism, drugs, a combination of those, or simply being a thick ass boi... You can only speculate how a man reacts to being shot. Some continue to fight, some scream for a while, some just die straight away. I met a man who was working as a cop in Fayetteville, North Carolina. We got on the subject of how bullets react to people and vice versa. It was a good conversation. I had a few more stories than him but, I liked his better. Anyway, he snuck a Hornady Critical Duty 124gr under a man's armpit during a traffic stop about 10m away. It caused the assailant to drop his gun. Then, the guy ran up to the cop looked him in the eyes, tried to speak, ran back to the car and flopped. Autopsy report stated that the round passed through the right lung and heart settling in the left lung. Couldn't ask for a better kill shot. I reiterate: I've only ever had one round stop a man instantly. It wasn't 9mm.

Comparing rifle to handgun ammo is ridiculous. A rifle is always considered the primary firearm of any officer or enlisted man. The sidearm is the backup weapon because it’s not as lethal as they don’t deliver lots of wound trauma compared to a rifle, have limited lethal range, and are harder to accurately aim. You hit any section of the nervous system on anyone with any round and they’ll drop like a sack of rocks. Hypersonic rifle rounds cause significant wound trauma, energy dispersion causes the tissue in the projectiles path into a gelatin like substance.
