I’m old school. Grading is so subjective. Been collecting for over 60 yrs, before all the so called slabbed coins. Now, last decade plus with the extremely large counterfeiting both raw and slabbed have just about given up. Especially online. Even the slabbed coin holders get scratched n dirty from handling and like Daniel points out. Sometimes it’s hard to catch slight flaws and imperfections. Buyer beware. Thanks Daniel for your time and investment and knowledge, your website especially to those new to the hobby.

The magazine I got in the mail last week from Littleton ( which I've never had or never will buy from ), they have their own slabbed holders. They are called ' genuine ' coins in " deluxe " holders. That put a smile on my face because I know better after 30 of collecting. It only takes 1 person to get 'got ' though. Since being around since 1945 you'd think they'd know better about the prices. They don't seem to care. It's sad.

The first "graded" coin I bought was a SGS Morgan Dollar, when I was a kid, a new collector and didn't know any better. Thanks for putting this information out there Daniel!

Before I send any coins for real grading. I refer to the ANA Grading Guide. Their instructions and real time photos get me pretty close to the actual grade. If you don't have one try to pick up a copy. Also get your coins graded by reputable companies. My rant. God Bless us Everyone.

I too, had bought many of the difference holders shown on your site through the years. I had a lot that just by twisting the holder and having it open up at the seam, made me quickly realize what I fool I was to take a chance. and once in raw status, even sent some in for grading only to be given another lesson of looking a coin over more thorough before doing such a thing... If theres money to be made, someone out there is working their butts off to skim or scam the next innocent victim.
@taylorism56132 жыл бұрын
Follow the golden rule, buy the coin not the holder! I just purchased a handful of Accugrade coins and had the seller cover the grades. That way I wouldn't be influenced and could make the decision based purely on the coins.

I have always been a suspicious person. Years ago, when I first got into collecting, I did buy a coin "lot"(estate sale) with several INB coins. I did research the company at the time, so I knew not to pay too much. The coins do look good, but as Daniel said, they do appear over-graded. (several PF69-70) If not, I don't believe I could have gotten them for the price I did. There were several quarter, dime, and nickel proofs, along with a few odd things thrown in, such as arrow heads & solid color marbles. (I never understood why marbles were included)
@shannonsmith89142 жыл бұрын
I just bought a few slabs from the International Numismatic Bureau, and all were MS-70. I didn't pay a lot for them, but I was helping a guy out, and wanted to see what they were about. Some of the coins were loose and sliding around inside the holders. The coins are nice enough to be an album filler, but no way they would get a 70 from anyone else.

An excellent video Daniel! On thing worth mentioning is that Ebay used to not have the Coin Grading Policy that they do now, which is: "Listings for graded coins and currency must have been graded by an eBay-approved company such as NGC, PCGS, ANACS, ICG, PMG, or Legacy Currency Grading." I focus on PCGS, NGC, ANACS, ICG, and older PCI on my Graded Coins. I do have two SEGS, that they graded the Winged Liberty Dimes in them: "Genuine" That is OK to me. I pickup PCI when I see it, I did not know about Blanchard, and will look for a good Coin in a Blanchard Holder. I have had ABC's in the past, and sold them off on Ebay.

Watch out for new PCI coins. They were recently taken over by a eBay seller known as Centsles who has now moved to putting their coins in these holders mostly instead of the NNC holders they used for so long. PCI used to be decent and I’ll buy the old green or gold holders I won’t completely overlook them because there is a occasional decent coin in one of those holders. That 78s you have is actually way nicer then most of their coins. It must be older because nowadays they would call that a Ms66-67 not 64+

Numistrust (NTC) is still around. They moved to South Carolina. I recommend doing business with them. Nice people work there.
@CoinHELPu2 жыл бұрын
I don't, they're not respected in the community and coins in their holders are treated as ungraded coins by most collectors and dealers.
@emilphoryew94362 жыл бұрын
@@CoinHELPu Most people in the numismatic hobby have no knowledge about these third-tier coin slabbers because they never tried them due to being stigmatized by the industry, but some actually are quite good. SEGS and NTC are the gems among them. NTC and SEGS holders preserve the specimens nicely. Their turnaround rates are much faster than PCGS or NGC. NTC rates are just $10 for all non-gold pieces, SEGS $15 for regular U.S. coins. Both SEGS and NTC grade fairly accurately. SEGS grades more conservatively, rivaling PCGS. Both deserve a fair chance, which neither have been given. People ought to try sending them less valuable pieces as an experiment and see how they do. If the grading results seem accurate, try selling them in their holders. If people buy them, then slab more valuable pieces with them in a second submission.
@CoinHELPu2 жыл бұрын
@@emilphoryew9436 I know all about these companies. I know the owner of SEGS personally and he has people manning his tables at shows in Ohio. Do you know what grading company his coins are in? Not SEGS, he doesn't have one coin in his cases, graded by his company, and that is what my point is.
@emilphoryew94362 жыл бұрын
@@CoinHELPu SEGS needs to do more to promote themselves to be a first-class service. They don't even have boxes to house their slabs or an auction site dedicated to promote selling their brand. You need to be a good marketer to get ahead and this is where they fail. Being a great coin grader alone isn't enough. I know Larry Briggs too, had many chats with him by phone.
