Though I REALLY hated this movie when I was a kid it had ONE good thing about it that basically no other movie had: He didn't get the girl. Not just didn't get her but they highlighted that she was actually a horrible person and was using him and when she came back (either planning to use him again or MAYBE she did actually decide she liked him now) he said NO because he realized she was an emotionally ugly and cruel person. To my knowledge not many movies of the time had this (especially when it was a woman being the user, there were maybe a handful that had men as the user but still rare even from that perspective). Hell I seem to recall a movie from the 80s that actually pissed me off because it was kind of the opposite (can't remember it exactly) but basically the girl was horrible, even contributed a bit to the bullying of the protagonist but when the protagonist beats villainous boyfriend she suddenly is into him and he wins the girl and accepts her sudden creepy change of heart EVEN THOUGH HE ALREADY HAD A FEMALE FRIEND WHO WAS A BETTER PERSON AND WAS INTO HIM! I can't remember what movie this was but it fucking pissed me off so much. But yeah, that's basically the ONLY thing I'll give this shit show of a movie credit for.

It's almost the same plot as The Toxic Avenger in the very beginning with the campy bullies. They should have made the boy transform into a monster after getting the sewer water on him. Then he finds the garage pail kids and they accept him because they are ugly like him. Then they all team up to fight crime and whatever. Would have made for a better story set up than this shit.

11:38 Funny you put in that "Snow White" reference, seeing as while "The Garbage Pail Kids Movie" was released, it was even being beaten at the box office by a re-release of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" (one of its MANY re-releases, specifically its penultimate 1987 re-release. Its next re-release in 1993 would also be its last, followed by its first home media release on VHS the next year)!

I’ve actually come across a recent controversy about that actress’s age. Katie Barberi is obviously in this movie, as well as an extra in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off as one of the bored Economics students. According a majority of the Internet, she was born on 01/22/1972 (though one website lists her birth year as 1971). Doing the math on it, she would have been 13 and 14 years old when Ferris Bueller’s Day Off was filmed an released, which are junior high ages. However, that scene is very clearly in a high school setting, and the actors in it are unmistakably much older than 13 and 14. For the Garbage Pail Kids movie, she would have been 15 at the time of filming and release, however, in one scene, she is very clearly seen driving a car with Dodger in the passenger seat, and the last time I checked, 15 year olds were not old enough to drive a car, let alone possess a driver’s license, ESPECIALLY in 1987. So I don’t believe Barberi was really born in 1972. I believe her real birth year is somewhere between 1967 and 1969, and that either her age was altered by her, a talent agency, or management company to help her gain employment and make her more appealing in Hollywood, or that the 1972 birth year was the result of some sort of clerical error or educated guess by someone who knew little about her and that information got spread around like wildfire.

The Cabbage Patch Kids dolls were one of the first overpriced (up to the $100's to $1,000's) toy franchise crazes that had people camping outside of stores and getting into knock down drag out fights in store aisles just to get one of those ugly looking things. The garbage pail shits were just reflecting some people's utter disgust over what was happening to the toy market.
