@ryanstauffer119 Жыл бұрын
The main thing this movie got right was the theme song. Lindsay Lohan was considered to play Penny, but she turned down the role due to her working on The Parent Trap. For the role of Inspector Gadget, they were thinking of also Kevin Klein, Steve Carell, Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Mike Myers, Jay Mohr, Jerry Seinfeld, Mel Gibson, Dana Carvey, Michael Keaton, Adam Sandler, Robin Williams, Chevy Chase, Jim Carrey, Steve Martin, and last but not least Brendan Fraser (who turned it down on account of working on George of the Jungle). Steven Spielberg, who was a fan of the cartoon, was considered to be the film's executive producer, but he was too busy with other films like Saving Private Ryan. And I don't know if Doug knew this when he made the joke at 11:38, but Chris Tucker really was considered to voice the Gadgetmobile, along with Eddie Murphy and David Alan Grier. Lastly, for Dr. Claw, actors considered were Tim Curry, James Earl Jones, Wilem Dafoe, Jack Nicholson, John Lithgow, Tommy Lee Jones, and Dennis Hopper. Tim Curry, James Earl Jones, and Willem Dafoe would've been good choices for Claw if the script was better. Tommy Lee Jones' portrayal probably would've been similar Two Face in Batman Forever.

That's sad.. I remember watching this being a fan of the show seeing this with my mom, I think she fell asleep, I wanted to like it at the time, but I honestly felt dirty after watching it. The French Stewart starring direct to video sequel is in every way better and more faithful to the cartoon... that's right the main character being replaced by French Stewart is an infinite improvement to this movie (the one who botched the role of Marv in Home Alone 4) because he actually understands the personality of the character.... also get this.... claw stays in the shadows!

honestly I still like it, I mean most of the critics complaints are that it doesn't follow the cartoon (i'm not familiar with it), hating Mathew Broderick before he even does anything (i'm pretty whatever about him), complaining about the transitions (not a problem for me)

Did anyone catch that shot at 17:20 when Dr. Claw has to press a red button on his claw in order to destroy the computer chip with his claw? We have seen Claw use his claw a number of times before, including opening and closing it without having to operate it manually with his other hand. What. The. Hell. That is one crappy, inconsistent prostetic.
@madcheshire26225 жыл бұрын
it actually kinda makes sense. The claw can only put enough force to crush something if that button is pressed to prevent him from breaking stuff he doesn't want to break by accident

That & merging itself with elements from classic spy shows ("007" James Bond/Secret Agent Man [for example, Dr. Claw being like one of Bond's famous baddies], Mission Impossible [the self-destructive letter gag, although in the former, the mission was always relayed using an audio cassette inside of a tape recorder that would explode], Get Smart [Don Adams as hapless agent Maxwell Smart saddled with ridiculous items as tools of the spy trade whose far more intelligent better half, Agent 9, actually solves all of his cases for him meanwhile he gets all of the accolades despite his obliviousness & clear-cut ineptitude for the position he holds, which is carried over to Inspector Gadget in the form of the cyber lawman's child prodigy niece Penny & their sentient dog Brain, who is capable of running on his hind paws, being able to disguise himself with dunce bucket Gadget often wrongly mistaking him for a M.A.D minion & communicating with Penny via her precursor to the modern smart watch in a manner akin to Mystery Inc. being able to understand their own talking dog Scooby-Doo when a mystery is afoot]), meanwhile Inspector Gadget's original character design was a deliberate ripoff/homage to equally hapless detective Inspector Clouseau from the _Pink Panther_ films [which in themselves don't even actually feature the pink cat with the catchy instrumental theme song that the Inspector is trying to capture in the _Pink Panther_ cartoons despite the shared name], so much so that MGM threatened to sue DiC for character infringement, so to avoid a second lawsuit presenting the differences between the two clueless Inspectors [as the first lawsuit saw _Inspector Gadget_ under scrutiny from the beginning just because it was purposely created to supplant the cancellation of the drastically toned-down _Lupin the 3rd: Lupin the 8th_ anime dub, which provided some of the basis for the foundation of _Inspector Gadget_ in spite of the fact that _Lupid the 3rd_ by itself, despite being animated, is certainly not family-oriented fare on the grounds that the titular gentleman thief turned outer space private investigator is noticeably sexist & rape-y in terms of how he acts around women], all DiC did was replace a much more competent baritone Gary Owens with Don Adams reprising his lovable bungling idiot archetype from _Get Smart_ & getting rid of Inspector Gadget's mustache that he only sported in the pilot episode, which was later edited again for a 3rd time to explain Inspector Gadget sporting facial hair for those who had only watched the 1983 cartoon in reruns but had never seen the _Winterland_ episode in rotation). As for Dr. Claw never revealing his face, that was a Saturday morning holdover, since certain characters were always seen just from the waist down or constantly hidden in the shadows, which Dr. Claw was supposed to represent. The 1999 movie even spoofed this once Sanford "Claw" Scolex had captured the bionic cop & when Inspector Gadget told his nemesis that "Whatever you're doing, you'll never get away with it", Scolex leaned over the cut-open Inspector Gadget sprawled out on a table (so as to create the robotic body double Robo-Gadget so that Metro City's citizens would turn against Inspector Gadget upon seeing his evil twin destroying the town) & snidely commented, "Oh please, Inspector. It seems as though someone's been watching too many Saturday Morning cartoons before Scolex, his hefty minion Sykes, and Inspector Gadget himself looked at the camera to acknowledge the viewing audience, some of whom may have legitimately grown up with the source material & naturally, expected something better than what we got from a live action adaptation of the silly cartoon series.

Maybe they didn’t want to look like they were copying Knight Rider by having a talking robotic sports car. It already seems like they ripped it off enough with that ridiculous dashboard. Something else I find interesting is that they had a Viper but they didn’t use that instead, it doesn’t look too much like KITT so a lawsuit would be avoided.

Someone was triggered. Lol Sure, she had some hits in her heyday.. But she also made a few terrible films, treated fans, workers, and many others horribly.. To this day, her attitude and ego make her insufferable. She does what she can to desperately cling to what little bit of relevancy she has left. She was a great star once, true, but she hasnt had a relevant hit in over a decade. There are many crap singers that rely on autotune. But some, lile Adele, completely blow her out of the water.

Something interesting is the director David Kellogg has no wiki page. The only other thing of note he’s done is the Superman & Seinfeld commercials and the video of MJ’s JAM. Another thing of note is his two most notable films, Gadget and Cool as Ice, have similarly bizarre transitions between scenes as well as misc scenes that just come in out of nowhere. I guess that’s his style.
@REBORN1000X3 жыл бұрын
Sincerely, it wasn't as bad when dubbed to Brazillian Portuguese. Sure, the jokes were still not that great, but imagine that: the car being voiced by Eddie Murphy and Gadget having a really good dubber, so you just thought his face looked weird because he was turned into a kind of robot.
