It's December of 1995. I'm 18 and on my way back to the store after delivering pizzas listening to one of the local stations and this comes on. I was at the music store the next morning and bought Garbage's self titled debut CD, and soon found it was the rare record that didn't have a single bad song. Seen Shirley and The Boys at concerts more than half a dozen times through the years now. And they remain my favorite band.

What? I'm really confused she's nowhere near as old as those who not only changed laws rights and how the world views women.. she's not even close to the first female rockstar popstar metal grunge etc. If anything I'd tell you she's possibly encouraging the victimization of women especially with the videos vs the pc age porn etc. I don't blame her for that but it is a time capsule of a society of brutality especially BDSM

@@gonagai1359 The person referred to her as a pioneer of women's freedoms. She had nothing to do with civil rights. She had nothing to do with voting. She had very little to do with what would be referred to as changing the appropriate dress code. I said very little here because there was a counter culture to the Barbie appearance by teenage girls when Shirley was popular. The BDSM style of the 1980s and 1990s well if you truly studied it Shirley potentially became an icon for women in the wrong place. The knowledge that society is made up of misogynists and rapists who prey upon those who dress a certain way. When you lure a type of girl or boy to a club a dancehall a concert. Except Shirley isn't just responsible for the live show or the dress code at the local mall... The internet is filled with wayyyy more garbage than that.
@xoXoKillingXoxo7 ай бұрын
Uhm…so you’re the type who would rather blame women for how they dress rather than the men who rape? yet you say the society is made up of misogynists and rapists…I'm not sure what you’re trying to say so please make sense and elaborate…I for one don’t believe in a rape culture or feminism, it may be somewhat complicated for me to grasp but since women got the right to vote population growth has been in decline and incel men becomes more prevalent and hate between the genders rises, you know with more career options being available to women some of them say they need no man soooo….besides why push for voting when all politicians do is talk and not acting in the interest of the people who voted for them.

My older sister used to play this song like crazy in the 90s. I haven't heard this in nearly 30 years, since I was 7 or 8. I didn't even remember it consciously. But the moment I heard the chorus, I was brought back to her bedroom all those years ago. I'm still finding the songs she listened to back then, bit by bit, songs I never knew the name of. Sometimes they come on the radio while I'm in a shop. Other times I stumble on them accidentally, like here. But they always bring such tingling, happy nostalgia! These are the soundtrack of my childhood. ♥

Same. Filming was so expensive back then so you couldn’t do much, the music video for Garbage’s ‘Push It’ cost them $ 750 000 and is one of the most expensive videos ever made
@michaelhawkins29933 жыл бұрын
@@benwyatt7619 Makes sense I guess. I used to shoot black and white film that was mighty pricey. I still wouldn't have guessed the cost of this video though.

This video was directed by the very famous and talented french artist Stéphane Sednaoui, so definitely wasn’t low budget. He also did work for Björk, Madonna, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Massive Attack and many others. But the style used in this video is definitely cost effective.

Fuck, I miss the 16mm Black & White cinematography that was so popular in the 90s. And how can this video only have 1.8M views? It's 20 years old, it should have at least 15 times that!
@dan75648 жыл бұрын
KZbin wasn't around 20 years ago.

Alucard Good point, but it shouldn't need 20 years to garner 15 million views. This song is classic.

seen a guns'n'roses video on youtube recently? they used to have some of the most views on all youtube
@EDarien8 жыл бұрын
Agreed, but to be fair, it was only put on KZbin in 2013. YT has been around since 05 and I know some older stuff like this (90s and early 2000 music) that was uploaded as early as 2009.

This music video debuted on MTV when I was in 6th grade and I thought it was so fucking awesome from the first time I saw it a d heard the song. I saw Shirley manson and immediately thought she had to be the sexiest woman on the planet. By the time I turned 14 I had my bedroom walls and the entire ceiling completely plastered over with an awesome mix of full size posters and centerfolds from all the greatest magazines, from hustler to thrasher, hit parader to hightimes... but the best one of em all that tied the whole collage together, the one I posted front and center at the top of the wall at the foot of my quadruple stack twin mattress bed... was my Garbage poster. It had Shirley poised on all fours in fishnets crawling over the Hollywood stars walk of fame with the rest of the band standing upright behind her. In the peak of puberty I used to beat off to that picture of her like some kind of dope fiend... It was awesome! Here's to you Shirley!

I read an article somewhere online last week (6-01-2015) of an interview with Garbage when this song came out and the band stated the song was about the difficulty of being different but not at all about homosexuality. The lyrics are, according to Garbage, about a boy who is introduced to sex by a women who was having sex with his father: "...like father, like son..." The song is WAY more complicated than superficial guessing might indicate. ♥
