ordering next week to go with an thirteen 9-46. Good looks with short cage advice, saving $10-20 on a derailleur I'm gonna gut anyway. Thanks man!
@inverse_of_zero3 жыл бұрын
Follow up or reply from Locked In? I can see the need in going with these for the 50t, but for the 46t of the e13 wouldn't it be a bit unnecessary? as the standard capacity is 42t, not that different to 46t right? thoughts?
@clintjones98483 жыл бұрын
I fiddled like crazy with my B screw to get all the shifts right for the Force 1 on the 11-46 cassette and I got it to work. Going to the largest cog is a bit more strained than the rest of the shifts. I think it's worth it to have the upgraded cage. Plus it allows you to go larger than 46 if you ever want.

No, you need the extension cage to go up to 50, which I ended up doing.

@@clintjones9848 yep that’s the answer i needed. i meant if this cage combined with non XPLR can get it up to 50t. do you think it works well w regular sram cassettes? or i have to go garbaruk? thanks!

I'm glad you mentioned that bit about the Wolf Tooth Road Link and shift quality. I've got the same Ultegra shifters and derailleurs on 2 different bikes, but one has a Road Link, and the shifting definitely feels less crisp and responsive with the Road Link. Now I know it's not just me.
@broadfjord70874 жыл бұрын
The goatlink 11 is the better solution. The roadlink was really only meant to get full road setups up to 36-40.
@kevinlinares90604 жыл бұрын
My experience on this long cage and pulleys. I was running 105 shifters and rear derailleur with an 11-40t cassette and a roadlink and a 40t up front. The 40t in the rear wasn't enough to pedal a steel frame bike up long steep gravel climbs. I replaced the set up with a grx 812 and 11-42t, which was better but still not enough. My third and final iteration of this setup was this long cage, pulleys, and an 11-46t cassette and that has been more than enough low gears for me. Installation was simple and shifts better than grx stock, just not as smooth as 105. I could have gone with a smaller ring up front but I would loose high gear ratio for going downhill.

I kind of had the same experience. Changed my 105 setup to a 1x with the grx812, GRX 40T chainring and 11-42t cassette. The shifting was mediocre.. installing the garbaruk cage with a 11-46t didn’t improve it though.. after experimenting with different chains/chainrings/cassettes this was the most silent and crisp shifting setup: SRAM 10-42t cassette, wolftooth 38T chainring (with 2mm offset spacers), grx812, SRAM 12sp eagle chain. I think it’s a combination of wider grx chainline and the ramps on the shimano cassette. The narrower 12sp chain reduced the rubbing on the cassette as well. Also the 10sp cog gave enough speed on the highest gear hence the reduction to the 38T chainring.
@kevinlinares90604 жыл бұрын
@@AX5324 this sounds like a solid setup. Recently on reddit xbiking there is a rider that claims that he was able to get crisp shifting with a stock grx 812, 11-46t slx, grx shifters, and a 40t chainring. I wonder if chain line centering between the chain ring and the middle cog accounts for some of this variation in shifting we are all experiencing.

I have a 2018 Fargo just like your friend's. I have added the Garbaruk long cage, pulley, and their 10-50 cassette (all in purple) and I'm having a little trouble getting it to shift great through the whole range of gears. I can either get the smaller gears to work or the bigger gears. Did you have to adjust your B limit much with the new cage? I have a new longer chain arriving today hopefully it'll help too. Any other tips? I've watched Park Tool's rear derailleur video and gone through step by step.
@LockedinCycling4 жыл бұрын
Cole Anderson b limit needs to change since your going a lot larger on the cassette as well as chain length. Try that first. Then check limits and then cable tension
@coleanderson73484 жыл бұрын
@@LockedinCycling Im thinking its to do mainly with the chain length, I tried to use the same one running the 11-42 as I didn't have any other longer chains and I didn't want to add multiple powerlinks. I'll try the new chain tonight. You recommend putting the chain on the biggest cassette gear and adding 4 links to where they meet correct?

Great video. Would adding one of these to a 46/30 and 10-36 2x set up allow for the a Force 22 rear derailleur to work better for those times I accidentally find myself in the 30 and 10 combination and provide less strain on the derailleur when in that 36T cog? I know you showed the Force derailleur reaching a 36T but I’d feel more comfortable knowing I wasn’t overworking that rear derailleur. Then if I wanted to run 1X for a specific event I could, without changing the derailleur

These cages are designed for the 1x sram rd’s, so it wouldn’t be something you can add to your force 22 rd. Trust me as long as you have right chain length I ran my 11-36 on my derailuer for over 4000 miles with no issue

Just get a derailleur that handles it natively. Oversized jockey wheels just slow you down (aero drag is far greater than the almost 0 friction reduction)
@LockedinCycling4 жыл бұрын
Nathan Brown no sram mechanical road derailleur handles a 50t natively, that’s why these mods exist.
@kevinlinares90604 жыл бұрын
A comparable rear derailleur would have to be an MTB with some wolftooth vodoo to make road shifters work. Yet, an Mtb derailleur would add more weight and be less aero.
