I love my walking iris. Thanks so much for sharing. I've been a gardener for about 7 years and my iris has moved with me everywhere along with my queen of the night cactus. God bless thus amazing women for getting out there and doing what she loves to do! She sure knows her walking iris.

This was an excellent video. Very detailed, step-by-step. I appreciated seeing how the roots are cut and the detail of forming the hillock. Great camera work also. I also appreciated the repetition of the steps. Thank you! I feel prepared and am going out now to the task.

Seriously one of the better videos I've watched on how to "divide & conquer". I can totally relate to this video--sitting on the ground in the dirt, getting comfy (or as comfortable as one can be on dirt) and getting the job done. This is me! Chuckling here.

Fantastic video! I started lifting and dividing iris clumps in the garden today, which is in mid to late summer but I had so much trouble digging out the first clump today. There was no way a garden fork would go into the soil. I had to hack with a mattock around the clump, hacking through many roots in the process, to create s small trench around the clump. Then I had to ask my husband to come out and dig it up with a shovel. He needed to use a lot of power to get it out and I've dumped the very heavy clump on a potting table until tomorrow. There was no way to break off clumps the way you did. I tried sawing off a tuber to separate it from the rest of the clump, with a bread knife, but it was too tough. I will try again tomorrow. More bad news: there are another four similar clumps to remove, divide and replant. You can see one of the clumps on my channel in the Shasta Daisies video at the start of the video, on the far right.Do you have any suggestions on how to remove the clumps as they are heavily entrenched in the soil? Also do you have any suggestions how to divide them if they do not break apart easily?

I am under duress from my wife. I have planted and worked many of the Iris, and they are doing well here in NW Indiana, but I realize I need to move some of them. It is now March 1, and it is starting to look like Spring. I have a bunch of nice plants that I would like to transplant from our south side to the garden in the back. Do you think that if I got a large enough shovel full (I am thinking of a LARGE mass to move, with a small plant in the middle) and moved it intact that it might bloom this Spring? Thank you for such a wonderful post, and thank you for sharing your knowledge of these plants

thanks for the video. I didn't trim any roots. I just dug them out from the backyard and transplanted them in the front yard. do I have to trim the top or is that optional? and can I put mulch around the irises to prevent weeds?
@knightbook10037 жыл бұрын
Trim the tops when you plant- the energy needs to go to the roots in the winter.
@knightbook10037 жыл бұрын
Mulching isn't good for iris; it will make them rot. They like being right at ground level, not buried.
