LONG TIME gardener in Texas!! If you get into poison ivy, scrub the spot with comet and then a good washing of Dawn dishwashing liquid. No Breakout!! 😍🙌🙌

😱VOLES😱. Never seen one my whole life and spotted them last winter and soon realized they ate many spring bulbs. We are on the hunt this winter! Garbage-Yes! Totally relate. There were dumps years ago it’s just some were too lazy to take it there. We don’t dare go barefoot. I’m countering it by letting arborists dump loads of wood chips. Invasives-Yes. Buckthorn, bind weed, sand burrs, nettles, Canadian thistles And the neighbor has a black walnut tree 🤬. I also have neighbors that do nothing about these problems on their acreage. I use a systemic brush killer liquid and it works great. Thankfully most of these problems are in limited areas. Great show-Enjoyed it! We have to fence everything or we would have nothing. Too much cost to spray and too much rain this year anyways. The deer still nip at hydrangeas and mock orange as they are not picky. It’s hard to enjoy landscaping with barriers.

That's awesome that you're adding the wood chips and that you're working to get rid of those invasives! Ugh, yes barriers and fencing aren't always ideal but can be necessary to keep the pesty deer out!

Oh those animals…we have been specifically buying evergreens that deer won’t eat in winter. We’ve been fine for several years and the trees have grown. This year, the bucks found them, and ripped them to shreds with their antlers 😫😫😫 there really is no winning. Everything has to be protected behind fencing. RE: raccoons digging…that happens when we use organic granulated fertilizers. Such a pain. And we always forget from year to year 🤦‍♀️
@dustyflats3832
@dustyflats3832 3 ай бұрын
Hi emkn! I remember seeing comments from you somewhere and I think you are around MN? Or nearby as it sounds like we have same issues with wildlife. Yes about organic fertilizers drawing in nocturnal animals! I’ve realized I will have to stop using fish fertilizer. And we have to fence everything and it’s difficult to totally enjoy the view, but we’d have nothing to look at if we didn’t.
@pwcolorchoice
@pwcolorchoice 3 ай бұрын
Ugh, of course, they can be so annoying! 😠🦌 That's a good point - the organic fertilizers can sometimes attract skunks and raccoons.

On the subject of poison ivy, my husband always said he didn't get poison ivy. He volunteered to pull some out of my rose garden and got scratched by thorns. That time he got a real dose of it all over his arms. Poor guy

I planted four powis castle artemisia in my backyard last year. During the winter season of this year, something kept pulling a plant out of the ground. I would put it back in the ground, and I would find it a few days later popped out of the ground. Over and over. When one plant died, then the next one kept popping up until it died. Suffice to say, all of the artemisia died. I never found out what did that, and it never happened to any other plant. I never thought that it could have been raccoons.

What happens if you burn poison ivy?
@jeanniecollier6763
@jeanniecollier6763 3 ай бұрын
It can cause a rash, breathing problems as well as in rare cases death due o the poison ivy getting into the lungs.
@pwcolorchoice
@pwcolorchoice 3 ай бұрын
Yes - as @jeanniecollier6763 mentioned, the urushiol from the poison ivy gets into the smoke and people can get the rash over their entire exposed body and cause a variety of issues for breathing and lungs.
