I grow walking onions in Ontario Canada. I pick the onion bulbs from top and store them in the house through the winter. In the spring I can plant the bulbs wher I want them to grow. They last through the winter and regrow the next season . Love your videos.

Hi Robbie and Gary, love your videos, I have learned so much and am about to put lots of your teachings to work. Please stop apologizing for the length, we all can find the pause button or can note the time watched and come back - I just can’t understand what some people find to complain about rather than being grateful. Robbie your videos can never be to long for me and most of your viewers...you are our mentor...and I am serious about that...at 70...well 71 tomorrow...I have gardened longer that you have graced this earth...and you have taught me soooooo much this past year...I have always enjoyed my garden but it was nothing like this year...if I didn't have my family to care for I'm sure I would have been sleeping out there...I watch the short version and you seemed so anxious it irritated me with the folks that say they want short one...which is ok to each their own right...there are plenty of shots on KZbin...go there people...as a retired educator that taught thousands of kiddos in 43 years...I know you can not rush somethings...gardening is one of those things...you just do what you do and let us enjoy your calm soothing voice as you teach us new things...we appreciate you...I believe I will leave a SHORT comment on the short version just because...I watched both last night but waited until this morning to comment...you be our Robbie and don't let anyone's comments sway you into something that is not natural for you...you are a gardener a teacher and a talker... thanks for all that...Cara in Indiana

Happy Birthday Cara! Thank you so much for your wonderful kind words....and just to say, I am not too much behind you 😉. I have always been a talker, in elementary school, I was always having my "name on the board" for talking. I just had so much to say, yet, I was so shy, I could never do a report in front of the class. Even when I got older, I love to write, but not speak....my mind is always working, and thinking, so I try lots of things to see what works, what works best and easiest. When I do a garden tour, I want to share things I do or have tried, this way, maybe someone can pick up an idea, or thought, for their garden. It is hard for me to do a short version, as I keep thinking of things I want to say...oh well. Thank you for being a teacher, which is one of the toughest jobs in the world and I know very rewarding! Those kids were blessed to have had you! Again, Happy Birthday, and thank you, Love, Robbie

So now I'm tuckered and it's fun to come inside and see what you're up to. Your garden is so lush!! Yesterday I planted my 12 walking onion bulbs I bought on Etsy, can you believe they started to put out roots within a day of soaking in a little water! I completed the 7th solar fountain today which has been the most fun project! Thanks for that tip. I read that due to El Nino our region will have a mild winter... boy this is going to be fun!

And that rabbit couldn’t live in my plants because, I love some fried rabbit. I wish we had as much warm weather as you do. I would love to grow me some more squash this year. @RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy
@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy 6 жыл бұрын
You look at the flower, on the stem part, a Male is straight, so it looks just like a stem....a female flower has a ball just under the yellow flower on the top of the stem just under the petals, that is the very first start of the fruit. If the female flower is not pollinated by bees, ants, flies, ME, the tiny round or longish fruit will simply not develop and end up dying and dropping off.

Try something easy, like from the market, get lettuce with the stem still on it or green onions with a bit of the root. Cut the lettuce with about an inch of the stem or more left. Cut the green onions with just a tiny bit of stem and the root. Eat the tops. Put the bottoms in water. You should see new growth within a week. You can keep them both in the water, changing when it gets dirty. Or put them in pots with bottoms. If you have a sunny window, out the lettuce there. The green onions can stand mostly shade, but can also sit by the lettuce. There you go, lots of plants. Meanwhile, start reading, using google search, about all the seeds you have and how to grow them. Mostly you are looking for if cool weather plants (most of the market stuff - which means fine to grow in your winter) or warm weather plants (does not like anything below like 40-50 deg). Then just keep trying. You will start to discover some plants will be much easier and faster than others.

I am leaving the tree to keep growing. I do harvest the leaves and use them in omelets, and I also add them to my mint tea and green drink. I am waiting for the pods to "ripen" and then I will harvest the seeds. Thanks, Robbie

A healthy rabbit is "paying its way" with healthy butt pellets. Planting extra to share and having that symbiotic relationship is great, like with all the birds. Could be an idea to plant a clover patch or 2 at the far edges of the property away from all the good stuff as an extra measure.

Grow something else, or grow them indoors till they are bigger, or use some kind of barrier - i use yogurt cups or cut off plastic bottles. I have had that before i think but a long time ago. Now i have so many seeds dropped by the plants plus the ones i drop, that i do not ecen notice if a plants do not make it. Maybe sprinkle some crushed egg shells or diatomaceous earth around the area? Also try different locations in your garden, different pots.

Gary responding. Hi Christine. We learned about walking onions whatching an episode of Gardening Australia. It was a few years ago, I think it wasTino. They are usually a backyard to backyard plant here, not sold in nurseries. You may be able to find them online.

How do you keep the insects out of your plants are off of your plants.
@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy

The birds here keep the insect off, the tulle netting keeps the critters off, but if you have lots of insects you can also use the tulle for that too, Thanks, Robbie kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpWYqqWXaLGIgw

I've seen buy 6 for $45-60. Online they sell for @$10 a piece. Dollar stores are likely cheaper.

Bartering with the Birds is very wise and profitable. It's better than adding chemicals to your food. We all must show/give in one hand to receive in the other.

Female plant has a bulb(ovary at base of flower)males are thin not bulbish. The fruit forms from the bulb/ovary if properly fertilized by bees and bugs.

I have had that happen too, try to make the compost tea that I make, from leaves in the garden, then keep feeding the plant the water....maybe that will kick it into creating some female flowers? kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2HPXqNnjryer6c Just a thought, thanks, Robbie
