I have loved reading all your wonderful and kind comments! Thank you 😊. Here is some of the information that has been requested. Cutter Backyard Bug Control is what I use for the mosquitoes. Watering is done by hand and in ground irrigation. The paint colors are all Sherwin Williams. The blue is Regatta SW6517, the red is Farmhouse Red SW2301 (no longer in the current color deck), and the white is Biscuit SW6112. At 24:00 Roger talks about variation in plant textures. Along with the Hosta is Yew and Nandina. At 33:00 the plant in the nursery container is Butterfly Pea (Clitoria ternatea), behind it is Catmint, and to the left is Spiderwort. At 48:48 we discuss false ginger. It’s Chinese Wild Ginger (Asarum splendens).

Absolutely my kind of guy, eclectic, putting into his landscape plants and things he loves. The garden looks “attended to,” not manicured but cared for with love.
@nancyparmelee41613 жыл бұрын
Good point! I know what you mean about manicured. I’ve been on many garden tours and have had a few myself and as soon as I see those clean edges from a landscaper, tons of trimmed shrubbery, truck loads of mulch, I immediately think landscape not garden. I find this in a lot of upscale subdivisions, not that they are not nice, but the gardens are in the smaller city lots. Less space, more creativity, more cozy intimate feel.

That was fantastic! I find it so interesting to see other people's gardens because even if it's not necessarily your style, you can definitely pull something from it that can inspire you in your own garden. I loved the driveway side with the pots at the entries to the house...such great colored pots and blue flowers. It was so generous of him to allow the tour...and yes, an inside tour of the house would be fabulous! I do feel that you should connect the inside and outside of your house. It would be odd to have a very modern garden and come into traditional decor. I have a 1934 colonial and I've been creating cottage type gardens that I feel go very well with the aesthetic of the house. Lots of hydrangeas, hostas, cone flowers, black eyed susans, dahlias, along with planted hanging baskets and urns with ferns. I enjoy some structure with some free-form.

What a charming home and garden! I never knew OKC has such beautiful historic neighborhoods! It also looks like in addition to there being a mix of architectural styles, there are also homes of different sizes! In my area, most of the solidly built masonry or stucco homes are very large homes that are not only expensive to purchase and maintain, but also much more space than a small family needs or wants. I would love to live in a charming walkable neighborhood like this!

Yes, you should try to connect your outside to your inside. It is actually psychologically disappointing when you see a house from the outside and your mind is set up to see some expectation and that expectation is not met. This was a lovely tour full of the owners personality. It is truly what makes a garden tour, structure and detail that set a garden apart from someone else’s garden. After all , we all have the same plants it’s what we do with them that makes the difference.
@danielallen1383 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean, but sadly we don't all have the same plants! A number of things in this garden would not survive where I live!
@danielallen1383 жыл бұрын
As to the outside vs. inside, I think it depends. If the outside of a building is lackluster, even a public building (I"m thinking of a church, in particular), it can be amazing to come inside and be totally wowed! However, when a house is charming on the exterior, but inside it's just a warren of small, old, tired rooms, that IS extremely disappointing, and happens often enough, in my experience.
@nancyparmelee41613 жыл бұрын
@@danielallen138yeah I know you mean, obviously I can’t grow tropical plants here in New York where I live, but I was kind of referring more to the garden tours in my area where everyone does kind of have the same perennials that are sold in big box stores or nurseries around here. It’s a delight if someone has a plant I don’t always see or does something unusual with something I see a lot of.
@danielallen1383 жыл бұрын
@@nancyparmelee4161 In NE Ohio, we've lost (at least for the foreseeable future) our major Home and Garden show. I miss it, because it's always been fun to go, especially as it usually was held in February, when everyone is sick of winter and anticipating spring. But I would laugh at some of the display gardens that landscaping companies would create. A border of African violets? Really? Or they'd show plants all in bloom that almost NEVER would bloom outdoors at the same time!
