Oh wow. Never seen your Miss Lemon abelia look as shining gold/yellow as that. And I've seen all the updates from this landscape. It went from "really interesting evergreen shrub" to, "wow, that thing can be the star of the show!" Gotta add it to my wishlist now.

The tulips daffodils pansies, and hellebores announce spring. Complementary colors of flowers and shrubs are noticeable now, not just an idea in your mind. It's nice to see a plan come together.

I'm from central Virginia and I have some of the same plants. I have some dwarf daffodils in my strip along with tulips, day lilies, black-eyed susans, and oriental lilies. I made a redwood border for my irises. My canna lily got ruined over the winter. I have carrots, cherry tomatoes, tulips, mums, stick cactus, and marigolds in my main front bed. I have several side beds. One has shamrocks, romaine lettuce, and cilantro in it. Roses behind that next to a crape myrtle. Another bed has different azaleas and a dwarf quince in it. Just planted was a rhododendron (Percy Wiseman) on the north east corner. I also have a strawberry patch, blueberries, lemon mint, and oregano growing. I have various succulents in my kitchen window and a bromeliad. Lamb's ear cactus out front in a pot.

Spring flowers are looking great! I noticed the Rosemary near you at the end of video, when do you cut it back?
@lilyw.17882 жыл бұрын
When I saw your damaged allium leaves where the tips were cornered off, it looked like someone had cut it with a pair of scissors or knife . Mine actually looked like that too and I thought that the deer got to them and I was so afraid . When you said it was frost damaged , my heart was lifted . As always , thank you for sharing your ever flowing knowledge! One question , when is the time to fertilize? Is it different in every zone ? In 5b

Jim, I've got one large established Hellebore near my tiny pond with fountain pump. That last freeze hit 17° in my yard in Dawsonville. Apparently, enough ice accumulated to splash water on that Hellebore all night & boy is it ugly. Would you leave it alone? I had just removed the old foliage. Gardening teaches one to handle disappointment 😂
@williamsender64162 жыл бұрын
The tiny little bud on my Roses of Sharon got hit by that frost up here in Durham the other week. Think they'll come back?

What is the deep green shrub with long ridged leaves among the orange tulips and pansies?
@debrabray88552 жыл бұрын
Everything looks so beautiful, as always! Say, that mahogany hibiscus that was growing along your veg garden fence....will they come back? I cut some lines from mine and rooted them in water this winter, but they look kinda sad.

Wondering if you have a suggestion for late blooming daffodils? I planted 200 last year but they already have bloomed 3/21. I wanted daffodils that bloomed around Easter. I don’t know which to choose. Thanks.
@sherriianiro7472 жыл бұрын
Something is going on - I have early, mid and late daffodils 20+ yrs. old and last year all came up at once! I was told by a local nursery it's caused by our weird weather.

I just bought a bunch of festiva maxima peonies at Walmart yesterday because they were cheap. Can I plant them out now (knowing they won't bloom til next summer) or should I store them in a cool dry place til fall? I live in southeast Alabama zone 8b

I live in your area, Wake county, do you dig up your tulips? I thought we treat tulips as annual here in 7b. (I have avoided planting tulips)
@JimPutnam2 жыл бұрын
The species will come back, the others I treat as annuals. Although some of those will be back next year as well.
@anitahadley28712 жыл бұрын
I really love those species tulips, I will have to try some next year for sure. Do they come back for you or did you plant them this year? I planted Dutch Master and Ice Follies together, both marked mid spring. The Dutch Masters have been blooming for awhile and we’re open during the last cold snap. They didn’t skip a beat. The Ice follies have not shown themselves yet. I was hoping they’d be blooming together. Maybe next year.
@johannawilson38072 жыл бұрын
Would also like to know if the species tulips come back!
@babymoon52822 жыл бұрын
If you are one zone colder then mine why are you seeing blooms sooner then me? I'm confused
@judymckerrow67202 жыл бұрын
Will your species tulip come back every year for you? I know your zone isn’t a friendly one for tulips, most are considered annuals for you but I was wondering if species tulips were different? 🌷💚🙃
@JimPutnam2 жыл бұрын
Yes, they will come back. The other ones will actually come back, but be less vigorous next year.
