We all appreciate the names and zones on the screen so very much. It can be so frustrating to admire a plant shown to us only to be left in the dark about it. Hi Holly and Griffin.

Your videos always make me want to immediately go out and work on my garden. I love the variety of plants you have. Oh, and I planted some giant Agastache this year and it's doing wonderful! It makes me so happy to see the bees and hummers enjoying it.

Why do I love Holly so much? She is the epitome of the old grumpy curmudgeon in dog years. Wherever you are, that's where she wants to be. Also, the point of this video... the garden...it looks great!

I’m in the Chicago area, zone 5b, and sowed verbena bonariensis seeds in my garden about five years ago. I’ve never had to do it since. They self sow every year and are great see-through plants. The pollinators love it!

Thanks for the tour, Jim. My husband is building a terraced garden space along the slope by our driveway that we will view every time we sit down to eat. I am looking for plants that will carry us over the entire year. I always get some great ideas from you. I keep a list for when my kids want to know what to give me for any occasion. Added several to my list this morning. Hoping for the 'Lemon Glow" camellia. I put it at the top of my list.

Jim, you mentioned that because of your clay soil, you used something called expanded slate to plant the Daphne 'Aureo Marginata' in. What exactly is this expanded slate, and what does it do for clay soil? If it helps the soil drain better, I really need to use it in my rock-hard clay soil. Any enlightenment you, or your subscribers, could share would be extremely helpful! Thanks in advance. ~Margie

Thank you once again for sharing your beautiful garden. I happily admit to having landscape/plant/garden envy in spades 🤣🤣 I don’t have much in terms of a spring flowering garden; I much prefer pushing as many late blooming plants as possible in to fall/early winter. My only complaint is that many are still flowering as the snow’s falling and I’m usually always rushing, and freezing, as I try to complete fall garden clean up! 🤣🤣🤣🇨🇦

My bee balm is about done for the year. It seeds itself well though. I am letting it go, it is spreading through some irises. Since they bloom at different times it is working well for me. I may cut some of it back, maybe i can get some more blooms later.

Thank you for your advice Wednesday. Not much of a change yet on the white pillar hibiscus after the chelated iron. I will give it two more days then try it again as my dosage may have been off. If that doesn't work my plan is to dig them up in late February, mound them up higher, add permatil, then cut them back by a third. If that doesn't work it's time for distylium or a native that likes sun and wet feet.

Jim, I cannot seem to find the traditional nandina that is leggy and tall for purchase anymore. Are they still available or have they gone out of fashion for the newer varieties? I would like to spot apply a few of these along my fence line for their flowy appearance and to give just a touch of privacy in these areas, as well as sun/shade and evergreen qualities. I have some in my front yard that are about 30 years old and I do know about the controversy regarding how invasive they can be, but I love them anyway. Are there any good substitutes that have these same features? Thanks so much! (Zone 9b, Northern California).

The upright buddleia that was existing in the garden when you became owner, could it be a Lochinch? I'd like to find a Lochinch but I believe it is now a parent of some of the hybrids.
@paulacothren3591
@paulacothren3591 3 жыл бұрын
Replying to my own reply: my Lochinch of long ago had the most prominent orange eyes and was super fragrant, more than any buddleia I know today, which I do not find fragrant at all. It was huge and upright and died during a 4-5 day 105 degree stretch we had in Raleigh about 20 years ago. I saved the lower trunk because it looks like a piece of driftwood. Still have it and it is part of a tilandsia collection. You're bringing back memories, Jim!
