the way you talk about "pests" is so refreshing. you clearly have so much appreciation and admiration for nature and the intricate balance it maintains when given the opportunity. this is exactly what im looking to achieve in my gardening venture

The garden looks amazing and I wanted to let you know if you're in Missouri that your fig tree may die back in the winter but do not get rid of it, give it another chance because sometimes it comes up from the root and can grow 10 feet in a single season. I'm in Southern Illinois and that's what I experience with my Chicago hearty fig trees.

I was married to a beekeeper and your property looks perfect to have some hives put on, sometimes we would “rent” our hives to people and put them on their land, farmers loved them. I’m so surprised you have fruit after one year, you gave them a great environment to flourish! Hope to see an updated video next summer showing progress!

Have you thought about adding some water features? With a waterfall using a recirculating pump it will keep mosquitoes from taking over and you can give all of that wildlife a consistent water source. Plus the sound is really relaxing while gardening.
@BarakaTheGreat4 ай бұрын
Just curious, why does it keep them away? Wouldn’t the water attract more?
@money-ay4 ай бұрын
mosquitoes prefer still water to breed, so if theres an agitator like a waterfall the mosquitoes have a hard time landing to lay eggs, and if they do the eggs get tossed around. There are gambusia fish you can find/buy that will eat every single mosquito larvae in that body of water if you dont want an agitator in your pond.

This is such a gorgeous garden. I can’t wait to see what it looks like this year. I love hearing you talk about how you compost with things at your disposal. Where I live, a lot of people buy compost for their gardens. I also love how you mentioned cutting plants back at the roots to let them put the nutrients back into the soil. Just learned that recently! Thanks for the awesome video!

If winter has anything under 0 make sure to really cover the fig. I tried to do the bush ones and they had over 2 ft of leaves on them in a tomato cage and it still died during that winter we had neg 10 wind chill. I have had great luck with raspberries and blackberries. They rarely get messed up with an early frost like the fruit trees do and then you have something left on those bad seasons.

Have you considered a pollinator garden? Here in Fl i grow a variety of wild flowers native to my state, from butterfly Milkweed (for helping the endangered monarchs), Purple cone flowers, Coreopsis, black eyed susan, and blanket flower. The purpose of growing these is to benefit the pollinators which have been in decline over the years. Someone like you who very clearly has a green thumb would seem like the perfect candidate for this.

Your garden looks great so far! Those sunflowers are brilliant. That lil wood pile is like ygose insect hotels they recommend people building. I made one in my garden and yup, it is full of frogs and spiders and all sorts. A pond would do insane things for the insect life in your garden. And ponds dont have to be big either, got gardening mates here in the uk who use flower pots as make shift ponds. Your garden is gonna look amazing. Might just have to deal with the cats bringing insects in 😂
