Great to follow you on some ‘less glamorous’ projects and see how to maintain the infrastructure. I’m struggling with the drip lines as well, but the specialist store told me that the drip tapes need to be run a lot longer, because their output is much lower. What’s your experience? Also: can you pls show us how you set up the irrigation lines for the trees, perennials and large flower beds? THX!

Hey Laura. Beds look amazing. Black drip tape looks really smart. Glad you are wearing your hat. I got skin cancer on my scalp above my forehead. Surgeon asked me if I was a gardener as a profession. No I worked in an office. The sun rays are stronger than they were 20 years ago. Gardeners are prone to skin cancer on the forehead, temples and nose but I am sure you are aware already. Really annoying having surgery inside my hair but luckily the surgeon didn't leave too large a hole. Love to you all. xx

Thanks for such wonderful advise. I very much appreciated all that I have learned from you. I live in a neighborhood that 99.9% of the yards are minimal on landscape. Then there is my yard. It really is out of place. Which is ok by me. It truly is a pollinators & wild life dream garden. They are truly living there best lives. From the beautiful giant swallowtail butterflies to gorgeous bumble bees that you can watch taking a siesta on the bee balm leaves. Over the last several years I see more and more people walking there dogs down our street. They stop to say how beautiful the garden is, and some how it makes the stress of the day just melt away. They don't mind the extra 2 or 3 blocks for a bit of joy. Thanks again for all the wonderful advise. You have helped bring great joy to so many stress out people.

You can also use a 1" section of the drip tape itself to cap the ends. Fold the actual drip tape over on itself 2 or 3 turns, then hold the folds in place by slipping the 1" section over the folded end. Works great. Pretty much free $.
@manishaholm
@manishaholm Ай бұрын
Yeah. The plastic crimpers get weak in the sun. The 1" sections of the tape work great. You might have to bend the folded end to get it to fit in the 1" section, but once it's on, it stays put.

I’m in my second season of gardening and could not do it without this channel and the drip irrigation I installed. (Proud owner of a GA logo kneeling mat!) I have 4 watering zones around my small home and yard, and this year, one of them even fills my small fountain using a float device to stop flow when it gets full. Especially during the dog days, it’s a godsend to have this system. Next up: a thermacell perimeter system to save me from mosquitos. A birthday gift to myself.

It was helpful to learn how you pulled those emitters out of the 1/2” tubing. I needed to see this. Pull them with pliers! Boom
@juliemva
@juliemva Ай бұрын
Love the demonstration & inspiration to use drip irrigation! I have 2 tips for those who have a hard time installing emitters & connectors into the 1/4 tubing. Wave a grill lighter under the tubing end very briefly before inserting the emitter or connector! It saves time & cramped fingers trying to wiggle them in as well as they adhere better to the hard plastic. The second tip is don't throw away any connectors or emitters but just use a utility knife to split the rubber tubing from hard plastic! Make sure you have a hard surface under the piece when splitting. I generally cut off the emitters or connectors to split later all at once after I've made my updates to the drip irrigation system. I'm curious why you don't use bubblers or sprayers to cover the areas below the lower leaf lines? Love watching you each day!😊

Thank you for showing us how you install drip tape. I had my irrigation company run a separate zone to my vegetable garden (which was already on an old turf grass zone and popups are not the most efficient use of watering a garden) and cap the stem. Now, I am looking into running drip tape to my raised beds. Until then, I run the popups early in the morning for 7 minutes, then hand water at dusk since we have a lot of wind and things dry out so fast. I am getting tired of hand-watering since (a) it is hot and (b) I am over 70. Love your videos. Am sharing the one about the beneficial insects to a fellow gardener whose roses have been decimated.
