I was always hesitant about cutting large canes back,thinking I would kill that cane. But after watching your videos over the years has been so helpful for me to keep a huge pink heritage rose easier for me to maintain. I can actually get into the plant to choose what roses I want for a bouquet. I've followed how to dead head so I choose what direction I need the shoots to grow. It's still a tall rose bush,growing in a weeping willow shape. The branches I let hang over but far from the ground enough to keep any disease from splashing back up on it when I water. I learned to gently water only beneath my roses,feed them well with espoma rose food. Then once a week a water solvable fertilizer on all my plants except lavender. I have a more beautiful landscape now,not loosing plants and placing many more plants in an area if I go with taller plants in the back adding more to the front by size. I even planted Holly Hock up against the house behind the shrubbery, something I would never have thought of on my own. It's beautiful and brings so much color in summer. On front of my shrubs I brought our more space adding Hostas,corabells,and bubble gum pink petunias that grow around and carpets the area. Where it use to just be a hedge in front of the house now it's a display of color that even my husband compliments on all the time. Saying you should have done this years ago. But I didn't know. I have not an ounce of seeing things how it could look. So I copy some what of your designs. Of course I can't do as much,but I am adding every year. Just planted a flowering crabapple tree yesterday. Never knowing there were kinds that didn't drop crabapple in the fall,making a mess to clean up . I tell all my friends to join your channel. It's inspirational and learning. ❤

Thank you, laura. I planted a David Austin climbing rose to go across my fence. It took off last year and I was nervouse about pruning it back. I didn't know if I should cut off the limbs from the canes. I know this video may feel redundant to you but I'm so glad you took the time to show us your process. I really enjoy pruning roses, it’s very meditative and satisfying. My mother taught me to prune them like this in autumn, and then lightly again with more precision in late winter - this prevents wind damage and overwintering of diseases, especially in our wet and windy Irish winters. I need more roses to prune!! 😆

Spring quickly coming to Allen county Ohio. Cleaned and tidied my 8x12 greenhouse and planted a bunch of cool weather crops . I also planted my gathered cone flower and Holly hock seeds. I started those plants in May of 21 from seed and fall of 23 I have millions of seeds from 6 large plants each. I have big plans for those starts. I received my praire flower seeds from Ohio State last weekend and I'm making big plans in a large wild flower garden. I live spring with all its new beginnings

This was the best video about Pruning I have seen. I’m training Eden roses on a arbor. I got it last year so this will be the 1st full year come July. It is still small but has a lot of growth. I did minimal pruning and feeding today. I’m training mine in a “S” shape up the Arbour. Thanks so much for your help this video was very informative and the visual detail aspect was excellent. 😊

I am not a new gardener, but I learn so much from you each day. I just trimmed my climbing roses Princess Margerita, and hope I didn't go balastic. I removed quite a bit of the old growth and left just parts of the major canes, 2 year old rose.

What a timely video! I was/am heading out this afternoon to prune the climbing rose. I love your videos; you have renewed my love of gardening. I was taught at a young age by my grandfather to always cut on a slant, leaving the bud facing outward or in the direction you want the branch to grow. By leaving it flat across you are inviting insect growth and disease inside the cane, as well you don't have as much control of the direction of growth. As a postsctipt, I am 65 and my grandfather showed me how at 10.

Sometimes your experience comes out without you even talking about it. I noticed today that you just throw your branches on the ground and rake them up at the end. I'm always so careful to put each branch in a trash can but as I watch you I realize, your method is so much more efficient.
