As an Australian of Indian origin, who eats rice every day, I wash rice three times in cold water till the water run clear upon washing. Also I wash rice in a big bowl and rinse the rice with hands in the water. This gets rid of the starch and impurities if any. Learned from my mother and grandmother. The best part is I collect the rinsed rice water and water my indoor plants. They seems to love the rice water. Nothing gets wasted :) Your Thai curry looks so delicious. I agree with you. You need to make the curry bolder in flavour to eat with rice. Rice absorbs the flavour of the curry. Benjamin is adorable. Love his money system and his face after tasting the lime. Sweet boy. Hope Samantha is doing better. Love from Australia

WoW! Thank you for sharing this! I was raised on canned veggies only, and didn't learn the basics. I obviously learned throughout my life, but I've always had issues with rice, but I've never ever rinsed it! Actually, when I saw her rinse it in the video, a lightbulb went off in my head, and then I saw your comment here! I'm very very sensitive to toxins/chemicals as well, so I'm betting if I rinse my rice, I'll do just fine with it. This opens up a whole new world to me :) And I will absolutely use your rinsing method and use the water on my plants :)

Try using the rice water to water your orchids, it helps them to bloom profusely. Got this tip from orchid growers in Hawaii.

@@hismercysavessallysue5927 Some people use a large bowl, a whisk, and lots of water to really give the rice a good once over. You may find you only need to rinse it once or twice, instead of three times.

Thanks for sharing this. Benjamin reminds me so much of my boy. He's 19 now and I wish I had videos like this to look back on. Both my kids have cooked with me since they were old enough to stand in a chair. It's where they learn basic applied math, the joy of creation, the appreciation for fresh ingredients, to listen to directions, pride in putting a meal on the table for people you love. I started watching your videos for plants, but your spirit and the relationship with you whole family is what hooked me. I never realized I could genuinely care about a family I had never met, but here I am.

Benjamin is so darn smart! He might be ready for a savings account. My grandmother did that with me, a lot of times my deposit would be coins we saved and I rolled up. Then we would go to the bank so I could make the deposit and update my account register. It always made me feel so grown up with my lil pocketbook in hand 😆

OMG Benjamin's face with the lime was the best, I had to watch it a couple times, so funny. Nothing better then seeing things through the eye of a child. This video was very enjoyable to watch you and Benjamin work together and to learn a new recipe.

So my eyes were not quite open, and I’d only had about two sips of coffee when you showed your list of items to get from the garden…the first item looked very much like “chicken” to me!! 🐓😳 I thought to myself, “Laura! Surely not!!” Then you read your list, and my heartbeat corrected itself!! Phew! Adorable video and Benjamin…makes my heart melt! My youngest son in first grade told me he was never going to leave me! ❤️

Love the Benjamin stories. He reminds me of my grandson. He may be small but talks like an adult. Great imagination. I bet you read to him a lot. Everyone says my Oakly is like an old mans soul in a little boys body. Wise beyond his years. So is your Benjamin. Precious. Samantha will be catching up with her stories before long. I love going to the garden and bringing in produce to cook. It’s just so satisfying.Thank you for sharing!

Benjamin is so sweet and cute, 🥰 Laura. You are such a wonderful mother and friend to Benjamin, as well as a patient teacher. Our first child born we also named Benjamin and I am happy to say that he has grown into a gentle and very intelligent man, who cares about the environment, appreciating plants and animals. I think this may be because I spent much of the day in the garden/property and so I would bring our children outdoors with me, whenever possible. They grew up loving plants and animals, and have a deep respect for the environment. It is lovely that you are teaching Benjamin to cook the the ingredients that you have grown! 🐞🍒🍋

My son is named Benjamin and he calls my mom and dad “Nana” and “Papa”. I love the Halloween paper chain idea!! Kids are great, aren’t they! ❤️. Great video Laura. I loved it from start to finish. I always rinse my rice. So sweet of you to share with mama and Dad too!! The end of the video with Benjamin talking had my face hurting from smiling so much. What an angel ❤️❤️❤️

Oh my ❤️. Listening to Benjamin detail his house, truck, trailer for hauling flowers and pots to ‘his house’ was absolutely precious! I started involving my daughter in food prep and cooking when she was his age; she was always keen on eating things that she was part of the process preparing/cooking. Because of it, she has an amazing broad palette and even at 19, she still loves to try new things that many of her friends won’t eat. What lovely moments you are having with him, soak them in - they grow up so fast!

I’d come do your cupboards! I love it when friends let me organise theirs. Unfortunately I’m in Scotland. I wish I’d leave the cupboards & get a handle on the gardening but I am learning from your channel and do get inspired by you guys. (Just maybe not today as the wind and rain is crazy here just now - chasing wheeling bins & getting soaked in your jammies in the wee small hours kinda weather.) Am excited for your Autumn/Christmas decorative projects which is how I got hooked, but like everybody says I’d watch you lot tie your shoes because you are lovely. Many would happily watch your pantry organisation too, I hope it goes well - you’ll love it when it’s all bonny.

I loved this s much! I can't believe I missed this video when it came out but I must have been traveling. Laura in the kitchen with sweet Benjamin is just as fun and interesting as Laura in the garden. :) And I LOVE listening to Benjamin and the way his mind works. "That's what I'm gonna do!" Too cute. Love that you are allowing him to help you in the kitchen and try new things. We have 16 grandchildren and some are finally branching out to taste foods other than mac and cheese and chicken nuggets.
