5 years ago today, I was watching Jack Barnwell’s Stroh Cottage Garden Tour, and although I was enthralled with the garden, I was thrilled with Jack’s touring partner. I'm a total fan of Jack. I love that he admits to neglecting plants at times and the plants have to be able to survive that. I feel the same way. I love the rock borders, it's what I started last year in my yard. The natural look with the ground cover, ferns and such. I'm definitely going for that look. I want my small yard to be a version of one of those areas. I must visit that island one day.

Oh, such a wonderful relaxed tour with Jack- thanks so much Laura. Other Mac island tours you've had I've enjoyed, but this was special. It made me want to cry, and smile at the same time. It is on my bucket list to attend the Grand Garden Tour, and since they sold out of tickets in February, it made me want to cry that I missed it, but thank you for taking time with this cottage tour. Jack has toured here on his channel, but we really learned a lot of new things from both you and Jack by a relaxed walk and letting us listen in on the conversation. So glad you were there!

We used to go to Mackinac Island for our end of year school trips. I’m only 1 hr out of Mackinac City but as a youngster never appreciated the homes and gardens there-except for the Grand Hotel. Will have to get back to visit and admire and appreciate with a gardeners lens. Jack is so laid back like Laura and Aaron and love that I can relate to this zone and the plants available to us here. The Indian Village is a fun attraction too. have you ever driven over the Mackinac Bridge up to Sault STE. Marie to watch the freightliners go thru the locks? That's fun as well. It was so interesting to see Jack's design style. He is very meticulous about the grass walkways staying very clear, clean, and crisp. Same with the rock border staying very clean/crisp and visible to the eye and the curves are lovely. What I really enjoyed seeing was all the ground cover in the beds. My favorite was the pocket garden leading towards the fountain where there was just so much to look at. I loved all the little trees. The layering there was so soft and beautiful 😍.
