The actual reference is not “wild hair” but “wild hare”, as in rabbit. A wild hare dashes about quickly, darting one way and then the other. So a wild hare idea is one that pops out of no where. Wild hare actions are doing one thing then rapidly darting off to do something else. 😊

Or call it what it is "A.D.D." 😂 Let me transplant this pot bound plant, oh wait (plant out of pot patiently waiting for new home) but I really need to clean the pot, oh and a saucer, (pause while looking for a saucer) this one will work but doesn't really match, wait a sec while I get some paint/stain/paper towels...we can make it match (10-15 min project) yep, that looks good😊 okay...where were we? Oh yes, was going to root cellar to gather some home grown veggies for dinner, (in house cleaning veggies) hmmmm, I feel like I'm forgetting something? (Root bound plant still waiting for new home😮) 😅😅😅

I'm not a fan of those who comment, backhandedly, about the team you have that makes what you do a crowning success. Kudos to you both for taking the opportunity to laud Paul and Bethany for their hard work, all the time. As for comments about your budget: you've highlighted the importance of paying your team members for their efforts and dedication, and why it's a priority. Thanks to all who have chosen to invest in the joy you bring to others. Happy holidays Garden Answer!

For everyone out there that wants to purchase any merchandise that Laura and Aaron have, buy it from them. We ordered, I believe on a Friday and had it so quick we couldn't believe it. My husband ordered me Laura's favorite prunners for Christmas and their shipping charge was better than some others. We were happy to give them our business. I wish they had the pop up bag. Merry Christmas to all that watch Laura, Aaron and the kids.

I always enjoy the shopping videos with your mom and sister. My mom passed in 2018, when I was 38, so I don’t have those experiences with her and my sister anymore. I loved when it was just us girls. The last time I ever saw my mom alive was on Christmas Day 2017, which makes me cherish Christmas memories even more.

I have kept Christmas ornaments with tissue paper, paper towels and rubbermaid (or Sterilite) totes for decades. Works a charm. The broken ornaments from the 1950's/1940's broke not because of storage, but children and cats and husband while on the tree. I LOVE the paddle wire idea for ornaments on the tree, I will keep that in mind for next year when I dare my tree with the current young cat. He's a Hooligan...

About the Texas heat and Petunias, I've successfully grown them (zone 8b). The key is you have to water A LOT! On our long stretch of triple digit days, you have to water at least 2 times per day for it not to look stressed. Sometimes, I'll even throw in a 3rd watering. And because of all the excess watering, you have to remember to fertilize. Hope that helps.
@PatriciaAShelton-no6cq
@PatriciaAShelton-no6cq Жыл бұрын
Same here in Georgia. Twice a day helps everything. I fertilize once a week with a water solvable fertilizer like miracle grow. Then a slow release every two months . But the super bells do great. Especially the dark purple ones. They can really take the heat. Do very well in containers,but would like to add some in my landscape. They want water, but we'll drained,in a container that drains well, you can skip a day, and they are fine. But I give them a sprinkle since I'm watering everything anyway.

And in pots, or if the watering is not deep enough, those roots could be getting absolutely cooked in the summer sun.

Laura and Aaron, I love that you guys keep it real by telling us how you do things, like storing your Christmas ornaments wrapped in paper towels. I love that, I've stored ornaments that way for years, and I also wrap some of them in Kleenex tissues, because that's what I had on hand when putting them away after Christmas. (Spoiler alert, I use the same tissues and paper towels every year.) More recently, I've used the bubble wrap that comes in things I've ordered (if I can keep myself from popping it first, lol). 🤣😂🤣🤗

FYI, the problem with Texas heat IS that it doesn't cool off at night. Come May (and then again September), night temps rarely dip below 65-70°. By late June, the lows are more around 75-80°. It can be 10pm and still 90-95° and it can be 10 am and already 85-90°. Plants struggle because it just doesn't cool off enough overnight. Even when we do get rain in the summer, once the rainclouds move on the heat comes right back; a late afternoon storm usually doesn't mean the evening is going to much (if any) cooler than usual.

I can confirm the supertunias do struggle in the dead of summer in TX bc it doesn’t cool down overnight enough and the constant humidity hurts their leaves, at least from my personal experience. I’ve grown them in ground and in pots and my best luck was in pots that get shade from about noon on.

Same in South Florida! Pots are our only option, and I think it has to do with too much water! When it rains daily soil is saturated and petunias don't like that either!

The birds DO remember where the seed/ food is. I’m a hobbyist bird watcher. I moved a feeder away from my deck, (because of the bird poop). I put it just in the next tree about 12 feet away. The birds still would come to the previous spot, look around confused, then fly over to the new location. The seasonal birds will do the same thing. They remember where the food is.

My neighbor has an automatic gate. He has a code box where each different company has their own code to enter. That way he can look on his phone to see who came onto the property at what time. But also know I watched a homestead channel where a neighbor pushed the automatic gate enough for him to walk on the property. Just dont have a false sense of security that might not be there. I got the impression the home remote gates were more a convenience than a security item. Unless of course you have a commercial gate system installed. Just something to look into when shopping for a gate system.

The way I understand the difference between the eastern side board to the western side side board is the eastern side of the US and Canada is that when there is heat and humidity it does not cool down like it does here, On the western side of the US and Canada it may get hot and humid but it does cool down in the evening. I have grown up in Southwestern Ontario and I do remember it being very hot and humid in the evening and night.

Laura is correct, spinosad was first isolated from the soil in the Virgin Islands. Spinosad is approved for organic gardening. Spinosad is a natural substance made by a soil bacterium. It works similar to BT in that it's a stomach poison, it must be eaten by caterpillar (larva,) however spinosad in addition to being a stomach poison is also a nerve poison so it works on a broader spectrum of insects. Spinosad is toxic to bees only when wet, once dried it doesn't hurt bees nor many other beneficials.

I love all of your helpful information regarding drip systems. You guys helped us tremendously to get started. My husband is a plumber and he helped solve my problems with water getting to the end of the line. You have to create a loop to evenly distribute the water and then branch off from the main loop. So each of my sections has an outer loop and then the lines that have emitter holes branch off from that. The big loop creates an even distribution to each line with emitter holes. I hope that information makes sense and potentially helps you in the future!!

There's an interesting discussion between Jim Putnam (HortTube channel) and Tony Avent both from Raleigh,NC on a video called "Plant hardiness is much more than average low temperatures". Mr. Avent actually participated in past calculations of the zones and gives examples of how one extreme year can skew the average used for garden zones.

You don’t know how special your shopping videos are💝 You three gals could make grocery shopping a hoot! What about the video where you made the centrepiece for the Hartley, and the Rosemary arrangement? Did I dream that video?
