Aaron you are a treasure ; ) Not many husbands will comment on their wife's hair and especially not on video but you said something akin to 'I like your hair with the copper color.' It may not seem like much of compliment/comment to you but..... "HELLO MEN OUT THERE"...any time you give your sweetheart an endearing comment that is sincere and one your wife appreciates because it's a personal aspect of her, you will brighten her days. Aaron good for you!!! As an example for the fellas getting a compliment "HELLO LADIES OUT THERE"....when your man does something that's nice just because he saw it, thought of it and then did it....Thank him and tell him that you appreciate how he's always thinking & doing things ahead and making life so much more pleasant because he's the handsome rock in your little family : D

I’m with Aaron on a flag pole. Maybe not huge, but a modest one. Here in central Ohio, many rural families fly their flag proudly. 🇺🇸 And for the people asking why you haven’t planted around the Hartley, they can’t be regular watchers. We know your plans and reasons for doing what you do. And we approve whole heartedly. ❤️

Or plant where they want you to plant.🤫🤫🤫 Like you said, you are at other people's mercy. In addition to that, you don't want to make what you do feel like drudgery and lose your Joy for gardening. Just in case anyone was curious about a good easy and cheap way to test your compost for contamination with herbicides, get some bulk bean seeds and germinate them in a sample of compost. In 1-2 weeks you will be able to see if the seedling is sick or not, and at that point it would be safe to use a bulk compost batch. That is how lots of people test in England as it is a huge issue here as well.
@mikeknowles2210
@mikeknowles2210 2 жыл бұрын
I have also heard that growing marigolds in a sample of compost was an easy way to check the maturity of the compost. They apparently are susceptible to poor soil quality and won't survive to grow their second pair of (true) leaves, if the soil quality is poor.

I've had real bad germination with some type of beans last few sowings. I remember Charles Dowding having major issues 1 or 2 years back. If I remember correctly some pesticides remained during the composting of these soil mixes and giving real bad growth of tomatoes e.g. Good call, I'll do a resow in another mix directly tomorrow.

I always appreciate when Aaron differentiates between someone saying something that is correct, but that the way you’re doing it for your area is probably fine. My grandfather always made that distinction, and it makes me smile every time. Just because something is correct doesn’t mean it’s the best way, and just because something is incorrect doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

So, my husband always wanted a, flag pole and I just thought it was going to look too commercial, or I don't know, something. Well I finally gave in and we got a 25' pole with 4x6 flag (if I remember correctly). We then built a bed around it and I love the way it turned out! So now I'm a big fan of them! We went with a 25' because it's not far from the house and our house is all one level so it was the best scale. But when you pull down our driveway we have two cedars on either side and you get to a point where they frame the flag and its awesome! So I'm Team Aaron and Flag!

I find it very interesting that people ask you such personal things like the question about your hair color. I really have never noticed it. I do appreciate your openness in your response to these things. Have you ever thought about just letting your hair go natural? I did that years ago and I'm so thankful I don't have to keep up with anything. I'm glad you did mention about wearing a hat though as much as you hate it. I've always tried to be careful with the Sun but I wish I had worn a hat everyday in the summer. I do have some spots on my forehead that I need to get checked. I have very few wrinkles for being 63 but I do have some dark spots that I know are from the Sun. So be careful out there. Thanks for all the joy you bring with your videos. Hi Laura and Aaron, Just wanted to say that I have been loving the development of your gardens/property. The big flag idea should never come to fruition! I agree with Mike, that a huge flag would take away from the natural garden look. If you want a flagpole, put it closer to the house with a standard size pole or put it on the barn. I also agree with Laura…adding a flagpole lit at night and “street lights” will make it feel like a park, not a private home. Landscape lighting along paths and highlighting some of the trees would look amazing.

Your home is just beautiful! I think it's fine to upgrade the home to reflect your style, as we just did. However, the quirkiness of a home is what makes it yours. I have things I'd love to change to get everything to match, but I realized I would have the same as everyone else. I'm okay with leaving the quirkiness intact and highlighting my home's unique characters. It's mostly esthetics vs. functional issues, so I'm going to leave it as is. My home is over 60 years old, and they just don't make them like this any longer. We are going to embrace it for what it is.

I'm fairly new to gardening having only just finished renovating our house, this channel has given me the courage to experiment freely with plants and taught me the colours and textures I love above others etc, but broadly speaking I hope everyone is able to spend a little time growing things, for me it's a safe place to experience failure and a fun place to experience success, in 'real life' those things have much higher stakes and in my garden I'm completely free and relaxed, if something doesn't thrive I can simply try again, it's a fantastic lesson for life as well! Thank you Laura and Aaron, I'm 35 and am a little late to this party, but I'm here now x

I would suggest putting in small lighting just like the 3-4' fixture Aaron gifted Laura a while ago that used to sit next to the gazebo and pergola. Use several of those throughout the south garden (and elsewhere) along pathways and add uplighting to the bases of your larger trees, adding more as each one grows to give them a glowing quality. That keeps it from feeling industrial or park-like and actually helps with the separation of "rooms" or distinct spaces as the gardens develop and mature. Big no to the flagpole for the same reason. It's a garden, and that peacefulness augmented by only fountains or statuary that blend into the background is what keeps it feeling that way. I'm with you, Laura!

There’s a car dealership near me that has a giant flag. It’s even tacky for a business. It would be worse at a house. Put up a regular size near the barn.

Aaron, if you go to a good stain shop, they do an amazing job matching old stains. My late brother put a closet in our old house back in 1990 and was able to match the stain on the bifold doors to the old dark woodwork in the house.

The barn is a perfect place for a flag. I have to agree with Laura. A large flagpole would scream car dealership. As for personal “suggestions” about your clothes, hair, globes or no gloves….etc. that is so out of line. Just because we see this lovely family on a screen in our home, they are not family and as such its very inappropriate to give them personal advice. They seem to be doing very well without it!

CONCRETE -- You could definitely DIY a concrete pad - especially with someone like Paul around; he seems to know how to do everything! We all need to BE a Paul or have one around, right? And with you two (Laura & Aaron) being so detail-oriented, it'll be level! :-) Just rent a little mixer for the day, and use either 2x4's for a square frame or buy the flexible plastic forms to create a circular base. It would be a fun project!

Nix on a huge flagpole. There was one erected at a certain Boise Northend residence that was glorious to see but the chagrin to neighbors. It was so noisy when the wind was blowing and we don't have the winds like you do. Just something to consider with so many homes close to you.

Oh, Laura, I’ve always though a flagpole would look lovely somewhere on your property!! There are lots of homeowners who install one-piece flagpoles on their home property and it can be done so well; they aren’t just for businesses!! Our flagpole is one of my favorite features in my garden. I am a bit biased in that my family owns a flag and flagpole business in the PNW, but it really is a beautiful addition that if incorporated well, only adds to the beauty of one’s space.

I’m on Laura’s side Re the flag and light poles. 😎 One of the strongest allures to your channel is that you are beautifying your HOME, not an Event Center. Even if you eventually earn money from tours and event hosting, try to keep your property primarily a home, not a business. That’s my 2 cents! 😊

If you have had a color application on your hair, that 20 volume peroxide was used that is likely what is making your hair lighten so quickly after color. It gets pretty technical to explain the various changes chemical services on your hair. However, your natural, un chemically treated hair is a shade that can easily lighten to a copper color because it is so sun exposed. Additionally, as we begin to get gray our natural color does begin to fade. Like Aaron, I think your copper highlights are beautiful. The balayage you just got looks like she sliced the sections rather than weaved them. They are fine partings, but Balayage is meant to look like a naturally grown out highlights. This critique is not meant to insult, just some experienced evaluation. You have awesome hair Laura! I’ve been a hairstylist since 1981 and specialized in color.
