I enjoy how you focus on the sciencey stuff with plants in some of your videos. Stuff like cuttings,, variegations, cross species grafting, etc is very fascinating. Good work.

Thanks, I hope to do some more sciencey videos next year with some more experimental grafts and possibly some cross pollination to create some new hybrids.

Thanks, I'm trying to do these types of videos more often so that I can show an update in the same video.

Thank you for doing this video, accidentally found. Earlier this year, we planted a hedge of 40 variegated privets and is doing well. I was looking for any tips on how to encourage shoots/leaves on the lower section, as they look quite spindly, and we want to hide an unsightly low wall behind. This might not be possible but it is good to know how to fix the reverted privet plant. I have seen this effect elsewhere.

Wait until next spring, then around March time cut the plants down to half their current height, this should encourage much more branching from lower down, don't worry privet grows quickly and will regain its height and probably more by the end of summer. If you have to plant any more leggy plants in the future for a hedge you can plant them at 45% to cover up the lower sections better, it will look strange for the first year, but once they grow you'll never know they were planted at an angle.
